  • Lamorde, Inalegwu, 16 others promoted AIGs

    Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Lamorde and 17 others have been promoted from the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPS) to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

    The Police Service Commission also promoted 33 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the rank of Commissioners of Police.

    The Commission, in a statement in Abuja, on Thursday by its spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said the promotion was one of the decisions of the 4th Plenary meeting of the Commission held in Abuja on the 28th and 29th of January, 2019.

    The new AIGs are: Maurice A. Yusuf; Ibrahim A. Lamorde, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC); Murtala Usman Mani, Wilson A. Inalegwu, a former CP, FCT; Dibal Paul Yakadi, Haruna Huzi, Mshelia, Mohammad A. Mustafa, Hyelashinda Kimo Musa, former CP, FCT, Ebonyi and Akwa Ibom Commands, Adeleye Olusola Oyebade, a former Oyo State Command CP;

    Others are Olusola Kamar Subair, Basen Dapiya Gwana, David Oyebanji Folawiyo, Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, Nkpa N. Inakwu, Chris Okey Ezike until now CP, Abia State; Moses Ambakina Jitoboh, D.M Obembe and Wilson O. Akhiwu.

    The new CPs are: Uche J. Anozie, Nwamhi Felix Yame, Mohammed Abdulmumini Gimba, Musa Adze, Philip Sule Maku, Umaru Haruna Miringa, Usman Sule Gomna, Adamu Usman, Daniel Sokari-Pedro, Ahmed Mohammed Azare, Adamu Saleh Jajeri, Maigana Alahi Sani, Audu Adamu Madaki and Dajuma Mohammed Lawal.

    Others are: Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje, John Ogbonnaya Amadi, Ede Ayuba Ekpeji, Mohammed Bagega, Bello Makwashi, Buba Sanusi, Suleiman Balarabe, Rabiu Ladodo, Ndatsu Aliyu Mohammed, Yunusa Edwin Ogwuche, Cyril I. Okoro, Awosola Awotunde, Ayodele Andrew Olatunji, Garuba Danjuma, Bello Sani Dalijan, Imaikop Asuquo Okpongkpong and Sahabo Abubakar Yahaya.

    Others are: Jerome E. Bentem, Idris Nagoyo, Ibrahim A. Gora and Edna Obiageri Ugbebor.

    The Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, while charging the newly promoted officers said the nation was looking up to them to bring their wealth of experience to bear on the numerous security problems facing the country as we approach the 2019 polls.

    He also said they should reciprocate government’s good intentions by rededicating themselves to the service of the country.

     

     

  • Lakanu, seven others promoted DIGs

    The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of eight senior police officers to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGs).

    The approval which takes effect from 28th January 2019 gives room for the reconstitution of the management team of the Nigeria Police Force based on zonal representation.

    The approval was the high-point of the 4th plenary meeting of the commission held in Abuja on Monday and Tuesday, January 28th and 29th, 2019 which was presided over by its Chairman, Alhaji Musiliu Smith.

    Out of the eight officers promoted, the commission said one of them, Usman Yakubu would proceed on terminal leave.

    This is contained in a statement in Abuja Tuesday by the Spokesman of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani.

    The list and brief profile of the newly promoted officers reads: “Aminchi Samaila Baraya, the most senior AIG from North East who will represent the Zone in the management team, Usman Tilli Abubakar, representing the North West; Abdulmajid Ali, former Assistant Inspector-General of Police, representing North Central and Fredrick Taiwo Lakanu, former AIG, Operations and until his appointment, the Force Secretary, representing the South West. He was also former CP, Imo State, and had also headed SARS, Lagos.

    Others are: “Godwin C. Nwobodo, former AIG, Boarder Patrol, presently AIG, Zone 7, Abuja and former CP, Courses, at the Police Academy, POLAC, Wudil, Kano representing South East, Anthony Ogbizi Michael, former CP, Ebonyi and Delta States representing South-South and Yakubu Jibrin from North Central but appointed on seniority consideration.”

    The Commission also approved the retirement of seven former DIGs.

    The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Smith, charged the new team to give the acting Inspector –General of Police maximum cooperation and support to move the Force forward.

    He also pledged the guidance of the Commission to the new team adding that they are coming in at a very critical time in the life of our nation.

    According to him: “You must be dedicated and committed to ensuring the sustenance of our nation’s democracy. You must get prepared to confront the challenges that will come your way and also ensure that the forthcoming general elections are free, fair and credible and citizens guaranteed their freedom to choose their leaders without hindrance”.

    The Commission said the approval has been conveyed to the Ag.IGP for implementation in a letter signed by the Chairman.

  • PSC to shortlist 315,032 for 10,000 Police jobs

    The Police Service Commission ( PSC ) said it received 315,032 applications for recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force as Constables at the close of its recruitment portal on Friday, January 11, 2019.

    The Commission said it will commence the online shortlisting of qualified applicants based on its advertised requirements adding that successful ones will be invited for physical and document screening.

    Some of the requirements advertised reads: “The applicants are required to possess an 0’ level certificate or its equivalent with at least five credits including Mathematics and English language in not more than two sittings. Applicants must be a Nigerian Citizen, not less than 18 years of age or more than 25 years of age. They must also be of good character and must not have been convicted of any criminal offence.”

    The Final analysis of the applications received by the Commission showed that 271,068 males applied, 43,785 female applications were received, 24 applicants did not indicate their gender while 155 applications were inconclusive.

    This is contained in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday by the Commission’s Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani.

    The statement reads: “Niger State still kept its first position on the number of applications received with 18,549 applicants followed by Kaduna with 17,936, Kano, 17,483 and Katsina, 17,354. Lagos State dropped to the last position with 1,895 applications while Bayelsa State, previously at the rear, is now second to the last with 2,035 applications. Anambra State is with 2,204, Ebonyi State, with 2,496 while Abia State recorded 2,976 applications.

    “At the close of the recruitment portal, 271,068 males applied while only 43,785 female applications were received. “

    The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, expressed pleasure at the successful conclusion of the first stage of the recruitment exercise, adding that the Commission was committed to a transparent, hitch-free and merit-driven exercise that will ensure the recruitment of the best for the Nigeria Police Force.

  • Police jobs: Application hits 294,851 as portal closes Friday

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) said it has received 294,851 applications from interested Nigerians for the 10,000 constable jobs into the Nigeria Police Force.

    The portal for the recruitment of exercise, which was opened on the 30th of November, 2018 will be officially closed on Friday, January 11th, 2019 by 12 midnight.

    Giving a breakdown of the applications received so far, the spokesman of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani said: “As at 12.30 pm today, Wednesday, January 10th, 2019, 294,851 applications have been received.

    “Niger State maintained the lead in the number of applications received from each of the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory with 17,790 applicants. Bayelsa State kept its last position with 1,797 applications.

    “Niger State is followed by Kano with 16,800 and Katsina, 16,666. Lagos State is second from the rear with 1,720 applications followed by Ebonyi State with, 2,218.

    “Male applicants continued to dominate the exercise with 255,189 applications with females trailing with only 39,662 applicants.”

    Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, said the commission will commence online shortlisting of qualified applicants after the closure of the portal.

    Smith also said the short listed applicants will thereafter be invited for screening and other stages of the recruitment exercise.

  • 10,000 Police Job: PSC gets 104,289 applications in twelve days

    …Niger record highest with 7,985 applications

     

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) said it has received 104,289 applications after it announced the recruitment of 10,000 into the Nigeria Police Force as Constables.

    The Commission said it recorded the figure twelve days after the recruitment portal was opened on November 30th, 2018.

    The Commission also revealed that Niger State has the highest number of applicants while Bayelsa has the lowest.

    Giving an update on the recruitment process, the Spokesman of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani in a statement in Abuja said the application hit 104,388 at 11.30am on Tuesday, December 11th, 2018.

    On the states and sex with highest and lowest applications, the Commission said: “Niger State has the highest number of applicants at 7,985 while Bayelsa State has the least applications of 347.  Kano State is second with 7,513, Katsina, third with 6,820, Bauchi fourth with 6,204 and Kaduna State fifth with 5,729 applicants.

    “Following Bayelsa from the rear, is Lagos State with only 516 applicants, Ebonyi State is next with 600, Anambra State, 605, Abia State, 733 and Imo State with 870 applicants.

    “Out of the 104,289 applications received so far by the Commission, 93,871 were males while 10,418 were females.”

    The Commission restated its commitment to ensure a merit driven and transparent recruitment exercise that will follow due process and abide with the relevant rules and regulations in the Public Service.

    The Commission also noted that applicants are expected to apply on-line to the Commission’s portal www.nigeriapolicecareers.net adding that the portal will officially close on the 11th of January, 2019 in compliance with the six weeks requirement by Federal Character Commission.

    The Commission also warned applicants not to give money to anybody for assistance as the giver and receiver will face the full weight of the law if caught.

  • PSC promotes three AIGs to DIGs, four CPs to AIGs

    The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of three Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), to the next rank of Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs.)

    The Commission also approved the promotion of four Commissioners of Police (CPs) to AIGs of Police.

    The promotions were one of the highlights of the first plenary meeting of the newly inaugurated management of the Commission held in Abuja on the 26th of September 2018 and between the 9th and 11th of October, 2018.

    Details of the promotion is contained in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday by the Commission’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani.

    The new DIGs are Musa Katsina Muhammed, mni, presently at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos; Mohammed Sani Usman, Commandant Police Academy, Wudil, Kano and Peace Ibekwe Abdallah, Office of the National Security Adviser.

    The new AIG’s are: Godwin C. Nwobodo currently, CP Courses at the Police Academy Wudil, Kano; Adeyemi O. Samuel Ogunjemilusi CP, Akwa Ibom State Command; Augustine Iornongu Iwar, CP, Bayelsa State Command and Adekunle J. Oladunjoye, CP Research and Planning, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

    The Chairman of the Commission Alhaji Musiliu Smith urged the newly promoted Officers to rededicate themselves to the service of their fatherland.

    Alhaji Smith said their new ranks impose on them more challenging responsibilities which calls for more hard work.

    He pledged the commitment of the Commission to ensure that promotions in the Nigeria Police Force will henceforth be based on seniority, merit and passing the relevant official courses.

    The Chairman charged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by making a success of their new offices.

    The Commission also said the approval has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris for implementation in a letter signed by Mr. Musa Istifanus, Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Commission.

  • PSC reads riot act to IGP, others

    The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith on Friday read riot act to the Nigeria Police Force management.

    Smith disclosed his displeasure with the present state of the Force on Friday when the team led by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris met him.

    The meeting was the first Smith had with the team since his inauguration by Mr. President on July 25th, 2018.

    While rolling out programmes to the team, Smith stressed that they must ensure that the Police Force returns to its glorious days.

    According to a statement in Abuja on Friday by the Commission’s Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission lamented that promotion courses have been jettisoned in the Police Force with Officers enjoying several promotions without attending the expected training programmes attached with each rank.

    The Commission also stated that it will no longer consider officers recommended for promotion who have not attended requisite training programmes and passed prescribed examinations required for their next rank.

    Smith announced that one of the conditions for promotion must be attendance and passing the senior Command Course for senior officers and other prescribed courses for others.

    He said: “Henceforth, result of performance of Officers from appropriate training courses must be attached to the recommendation to the Commission for promotion, if not, the recommendation will not be considered”.

    The Chairman also advised that every Police Officer should be a licensed driver so that during operations, the sudden incapacitation of the team’s driver should not necessarily pose a serious danger to the rest of the team.

    He also spoke on Police postings and frowned at the rampant and irregular postings of officers, stressing that an Officer should be allowed to stay at a new post between two to three years.

    The Commission’s chairman while expressing displeasure on the long stay of Officers posted to the Police Mobile Force, where he said some Officers overstay, called for a stop to the practice.

    The PSC Chairman also expressed concern at the indiscriminate conversion of Police Specialists to General Duty without due consideration to their valuable role in the Force.

    “There is official procedure for conversion and henceforth, this should be strictly followed. Officers recruited to work in the workshop, signals and other professional Departments/Units should be left and encouraged to pursue their career progression from there since their services are also needed by the Force”

    He directed the IGP to revisit recently carried out conversions, and return them to their special departments they belong to adding that new nominal roll will soon be demanded.

    On Police uniforms, Smith called for a harmonized method of producing them so that it will be the same from a reputable source.

    He made a case for a standard and modern barracks which he said will enhance effective community policing.

    The Chairman also directed  the IGP to look into the physical fitness of his men in order to address  the growing population of pot bellied Police Officers.

    On his part, the IG reaffirmed his determination to transform the Nigeria Police to a more people-friendly, disciplined, effective and efficient police Force bearing in mind the change agenda of Mr. President.

    He noted that discipline “which is the foundation upon which the Nigeria Police Force is built will be continuously sustained.

    He solicited the support of the Commission to ensure that the highest level of discipline is elicited from members of the Force.

    IGP Idris reminded the Commission of his recommendation of some AIGs to be promoted to DIGs to replace the retired ones.

    He said the promotion will help the Force to continue to pilot the affairs of the force at the strategic level and also assist the Police in preparing for the speedily approaching Osun State gubernatorial election and the 2019 general election.

    He also urged the Chairman of the Commission to use his good office to get assistance for the Police from the federal government to enable the Force surmount some of its encumbrances.

  • Ekiti governorship poll: PSC to sanction erring police officers

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) said it would discipline any police officer found wanting in the discharge of his or her duties during the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti.

    The commission’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

    Ani said that officers on electoral duties in Ekiti were expected to turn out for duty neat and in their prescribed uniform and identification and name tag.

    He said that officers on duty were also not allowed to have on them un-authorised item of accoutrement, kit like cudgel, horsewhip etc.

    “At no time will police personnel deployed to polling units be allowed to carry firearms,“he said.

    The spokesman said involvement of the personnel at political gatherings shall be limited to the maintenance of peace and order and enforcement of extant laws.

    He said that officers shall at all time exercise maximum restraint while covering political gatherings or deployed at voting or collation centres.

    He said the officers must be cautious, polite and firm at all times.

    “The commission monitors will be looking out for officers who will compromise these laid down rules and guidelines and will expect the electorate in Ekiti to call its dedicated lines to report any case of misconduct.

    “The commission wishes to state that it will continue to discharge its Constitutional responsibilities and ensure that the police operate within the confines of the law,“he said.

    The commission will be deploying a team of officials led by its Permanent Secretary, Musa Istifanus, to monitor the conduct of policemen on duty during the election.

    Three dedicated telephone lines have been provided for residents for compliants on conduct of policemen during the election.

    Commission approves redeployment of four CPs

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the redeployment of four Commissioners of Police for effective and efficient policing.

    The affected officers are: Johnson Kokumo, the Commissioner of Police, Armament, is now in charge of the Edo Command; David Akinremi, the Commissioner of Police and Deputy Force Secretary, is now in charge of the Taraba Command.

    Others are: Garba  Umar, redeployed from Bayelsa  Command to Anambra Command and Lawan Ado, Commissioner of Police, General Investigation, FCIID, is now to head the Kwara Command.

    The Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, made this disclosure in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

    Ani said the postings had been communicated to the Inspector-General of Police for implementation.

    He said that the Chairman of the commission, Mr Mike Okiro, had urged the affected officers to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation.

    “He directed them to quickly settle down and face squarely the peculiar challenges of their respective sate commands,” he said.

    Okiro said the commission would  continue to play a fatherly role and would  support and encourage them in the discharge of their duties.

  • Police job: PSC to consider candidates on ‘waiting list’

    The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday said candidates placed on reserve list would be considered for employment in the ongoing police recruitment exercise.

    At least 10,000 people will be recruited into the Nigeria Police Force at the end of the exercise.

    PSC noted that candidates will be considered in line with available vacancies at various training police colleges across the country.

    The commission added that candidates in Specialists Cadre will be invited for interview before their final selection.

    The PSC Head of Press and Public Relations Unit, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed these in a statement on Thursday.

    The statement reads: “The Police Service Commission wishes to inform applicants into the Nigeria Police Force who were placed on the Reserve list after the completion of the selection exercise in December 2016 that their recruitment is still being considered.

    “Similarly candidates in the Specialists Cadre scheduled for interview before their final selection, will be invited for interview at the appropriate time.

    “This clarification is coming in the wake of the fact that the 2016 successful candidates are already in various police training schools and applicants on the Reserve list will be considered in line with available vacancies from the Training Colleges.

    “Commission is awaiting reports from the Police Staff College, Jos, Plateau State, and the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos, where candidates for ASPs and Inspectors respectively, are currently undergoing training.

    “The reports from these Training Colleges are expected to contain the status of the trainees, state by state, after the required screening at the Colleges which include medical examination.

    “Established vacancies will be filled from the shortlisted reserve list from the states where they occur based strictly on their placement on the reserve list.”
