    Lions Club opens neonatal ward in Ikorodu

    The Ikorodu Doyen Lions Club has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Neonatal Ward and Mother’s Bay to cater to the health needs of newborns and their mothers.

     The facility, unveiled at Agbala Hospital, Ikorodu, Lagos, was aimed at providing essential medical care for premature and critically ill babies, as well as support for nursing mothers in the community.

      President of the club, Lion Oluwole Olabode, described the project as a demonstration of the club’s commitment to community development and humanitarian service.

     He said the initiative aligns with the core mission of Lions Club International to tackle global health challenges and improve lives through strategic interventions.

     Olabode emphasised the importance of the facility, adding that neonatal care often presents emotional and financial difficulties for families.

     “We know that having a baby in Neonatal care is likely to bring up a whole range of emotions, and some of these can be hard to face.

    It may be that you feel anxious about why your baby has been born prematurely or sick, or about the treatment they are receiving.

    Not to worry, the Neonatal team of healthcare professionals can now give you more information about your baby’s condition and the needs they have,” he said.

     Olabode urged the public to see the project as a testament to the positive changes that can be achieved through collaborative efforts.

    Representing the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu,  Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Eniayewun Ademuyiwa, lauded the club  for  dedication to healthcare development.

     He described the neonatal ward as a monumental project equipped with modern infrastructure and medical equipment.

     He emphasised how the facility will complement existing healthcare services and relieve pressure on other medical centers in the region.

     He urged residents in Ikorodu and surrounding areas to make full use of the new facility  which will improve healthcare access and outcomes.

     “This is a significant investment in the health and well-being of this community. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this facility and the services it offers,” he said.

    Medical Director/CEO of General Hospital Ikorodu, Taiwo Hassan, described the commissioning as a historic event that marked another milestone for healthcare delivery in Ikorodu. He praised the Lions Club International Foundation for their thoughtful and timely intervention in refurbishing and equipping the neonatal centre.

     According to him, the newly commissioned ward will play a life-saving role in easing the burden on the hospital’s capacity.

    Club conducts eye tests, donates glasses

    The Ikorodu Doyen Lions Club has  organised a comprehensive eye screening in Apeka community in Ikorodu. This was just as it donated reading glasses to residents.

    The event, held at Melpbat Green Primary School hall in Apeka Estate,  was aimed at  promoting eye health and providing support to the vulnerable.

    A team of experienced optometrists and ophthalmologists conducted the eye screening exercise and identified various eye problems, including cataracts and refractive errors. The club pledged to sponsor those requiring cataract surgery.

    The public relations officer of the Apeka community development association Alhaji Lawal Sanni, said  the whole exercise  had  a significant impact on the lives of residents. He thanked the club for the gesture.

    President of the club,Lion Oluwole Olabode, said the initiative demonstrates its commitment to serving the community and promoting eye health.

    He said the  event would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the club members and the  efforts of the CDA and medical crew.

    “By conducting this comprehensive eye screening and reading glasses donation exercise, the Ikorodu Doyen Lions Club has demonstrated their dedication to the core global causes of Lions Clubs International and providing succor to the less privileged,” he added.

    The event showcased the club’s commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others and promoting overall well-being, as over 400 residents were screened.
