  • Court remands man for defiling a minor

    An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos State,on Tuesday  ordered that an unemployed man, Abayomi Adebayo, who allegedly defiled a six-year-old girl be remanded in prison.

    The police charged Adebayo, 42, whose address was not provided, with indecent assault.

    Chief Magistrate F.A Azeez, did not take the plea of the defendant.

    Azeez,ordered the police to duplicate the case file and send it to the office of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

    She adjourned the case until June 6, for mention.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt John Iberedem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 4, at No.26 Adekunle Ojo str, Ori-Okuta Agric area in Ikorodu.

    Iberedem alleged that the accused unlawfully had canal knowledge of the minor.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provision of  Section 137 of criminal law of Lagos State, 2015 as amended.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant is liable to life imprisonment if found guilty of the offence.

  • Surety in soup over suspect’s disappearance

    A 70-year-old man, Jeremiah Ikuonile, who stood  as surety for a defendant, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly not producing him.

    The septuagenarian pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting Sergeant Adegeshin Famuyiwa told Magistrate E. O. Ogunkanmi that Ikuonile committed the offence on February 5.

    He alleged that Ikuonile stood as surety to Adebanjo Johnson, who was charged with domestic violence.

    The prosecutor said the surety was unable to provide Johnson when needed in court, in contravention of Section 97 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The magistrate granted Ikuonile N100, 000 bail, with two sureties in the like sum.

    He ordered that the sureties’ addresses be verified.  They are also to show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    The case continues on March 21.

     

  • Police arraign prophet for defrauding man of N6.35m

    The  police on Friday arraigned a prophet, Vincent Adewunmi, in an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly defrauding one Apostle Austin Okeke of N6.35 million.

    Adewunmi, 36, of no fixed address, is charged with two counts of conspiracy and obtaining by false pretense.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. John Iberedem, told the court that the accused committed the offence between the month of May and  August 2018 at Ori-Okuta, Owutu in Ikorodu.

    He said that the accused, a prophet of a particular church, fraudulently obtained the money from the complainant, with a promise to secure an Australian visa for about 12 members of his Church.

    Iberedem said that the offence,  contravened the provisions of  section 411 and 314 of criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015. (Revised)

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

    Chief Magistrate F.A Azeez, admitted the accused to bail, in the sum of  two million Naira with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until December 20, for mention.

  • Jobless man arraigned for damaging lotto machine

    Jobless man arraigned for damaging lotto machine

    An unemployed man, Falolade Ayinla, who allegedly damaged a lottery machine and stole N169,000, was on Thursday charged before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

    The accused was, however, granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

    The accused, whose address is unknown, is being tried for malicious damage, causing bodily harm and theft.

    Ayinla, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-counts preferred against him before Magistrate Bola Olagbegi-Adelabu.

    Prosecutor Mary Ajiteru said the accused committed the offences with others still at large on June 5 at noon in Ikorodu, recounting that the accused and others beat up the complainant, Kamiyo Adeshola, damaged his lottery machine and robbed him of N169,000, she told the court.

    “They used an iron stand to cut the complainant’s fingers and toes thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.

    “This accused and others at large went on to damage the Lotto machine of the complainant and stole his money forcefully,’’ Cpl Ajiteru said.

    The offences contravened Sections 285, 243 and 338 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The magistrate has adjourned the case to Sepember 16 for mention.
