    Ikoyi-Obalende presents N7.49B budget

    The Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has presented proposed N7.49 billion budget.

    The budget focused on infrastructure development and environmental sustainability.

    Chairman of the council, Bola Oladunjoye, described the proposal as a people-centred document designed to improve the quality of life of residents while aligning with the Lagos State Government THEMES Plus Agenda and the LCDA’s ELEVATE Agenda.

    The budget, themed Environmental Sustainability and Infrastructure, is projected at N7.4 billion, with revenue sources including federal allocation, Value Added Tax (VAT), state-coordinated revenue, and other FAAC inflows.

    According to him, the budget has been allocated to capital projects, particularly in works and infrastructure, health, education, social services, and environmental management.

    He disclosed that over N2.44 billion has been earmarked for infrastructure development, including road construction, rehabilitation, water supply improvement, and sanitation projects.

    Oladunjoye highlighted plans to strengthen the health sector through the construction of a new health centre, procurement of medical equipment, provision of drugs across primary healthcare centres, and training of healthcare personnel.

    “In the education sector, the budget makes provision for school improvements, bursary awards for indigent students, and continuous teacher training,” he said.

    The council boss reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling flooding, poor waste management, and loss of green spaces, proposed initiatives include improved waste disposal systems, creation of parks and green areas, and climate change mitigation projects such as drainage and flood-control works.

    Oladunjoye emphasised the importance of staff welfare and capacity building, noting that adequate funds have been allocated for training, improved working conditions, and overall staff development.

    Leader of the Legislative Arm, Oladimeji Hassan, described the budget presentation as a memorable milestone for the council.

    Ikoyi-Obalende, stakeholders meet on budget

    The Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Bola Oladunjoye, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development.

    He made this known during the 2026 Budget Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the council sectetariat, Obalende.

    Oladunjoye described the meeting as an important platform to strengthen collaboration between government and residents, as well as to ensure transparency, accountability, and people-driven decision-making in the budgeting process.

    He explained that the purpose of the forum was fourfold — to gather input and feedback from stakeholders on priority needs for the 2026 fiscal year, ensure transparency in the budgeting process, facilitate effective communication between government and the public, and identify critical needs such as infrastructure, social services, and economic opportunities for inclusion in the new budget.

     “We are a government of the people, and we value the input of our people in the administration. Our open-door policy is evident in today’s event, where we seek direct input from you in developing an inclusive budget for the 2026 fiscal year. We want to know your priorities, not what we think you need,” he said.

    The council boss emphasised that his administration is guided by the principle of participatory governance, where the people’s voices determine the focus of government actions. He urged residents to actively participate in the consultative forum, noting that democracy thrives when citizens take ownership of governance.

    “This government is your government. It is what you say we should do that we will do. As citizens, you have the power to steer the ship of governance in the direction that you want it to go,” he noted.

    Highlighting the council’s achievements, the chairman listed the ongoing rehabilitation of Lugard Avenue, which is 90 percent completed, and the reconstruction of Polo Club Road, Ikoyi, which has already commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony.

    He also noted that the administration had intensified efforts to boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through efficient, transparent, and accountable measures. These include branding of revenue officers, purchase of revenue buses, introduction of an electronic billing and payment system, and a comprehensive enumeration of all revenue sources within the council.

    On security, Oladunjoye commended residents and security agencies for their cooperation and vigilance in maintaining peace and reducing crime rates within the council area.

    He further reiterated the council’s “Zero Tolerance” policy for environmental infractions, stating that Street Marshals have been deployed to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

    While assuring residents of continued delivery of people-oriented projects, the council boss appealed to all ratepayers to fulfill their civic obligations, stressing that prompt payment of levies and dues is vital to sustaining developmental efforts.

    “Your contributions are crucial to our community’s growth and development. Together, we can build a better Ikoyi-Obalende,” he said.

    Ikoyi-Obalende begins construction of 30-bed PHC

    The Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has begun building a 30-bed Primary Healthcare (PHC) facility for residents of the area.

    Its Chairman, Fuad Atanda-Lawal, said the council had been committing  resources to touching lives and ensuring that no one in the community would be left behind.

    Atanda-Lawal made this known at the groundbreaking ceremony for the facility to be known as Senator Oluremi Tinubu Primary Healthcare Centre, in Lagos.

    “Today is groundbreaking ceremony for our primary healthcare centre, a 30-bed space to take care of residents of the Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA.

    “It is not just about building a facility, but also about a functional facility with qualified doctors and people who will continue to deliver quality medical care to our people.

    “That is what we are doing here today, “ he said.

    The chairman said that building of the facility would begin immediately and be completed within the next four months.

    He called on the community members to support the council and allow  workers on site to do what they should  do, in order to deliver  the project within the stipulated time.

    “Once we leave the site, workers will commence work, we have earmarked funds for this project,“ Atanda-Lawal said.

    400 women get grants in Ikoyi-Obalende

    The Chairman, Ikoyi Obalende Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, Faud Atanda-Lawal, has given N50,000 grants to 400 women.

    Speaking at the presentation of the grants in Lagos, Atanda-Lawal said it was meant to support women in the council area to start or grow their businesses.

    He said the beneficiaries would also get one year health insurance as well as training on financial literacy.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme tagged, “Empowering her fortune,” was in collaboration with VFD Microfinance Bank.

    Atanda-Lawal said the council, through the microfinance bank, opened a new bank account for each beneficiary for the payment of the grants.

    The council boss noted that the initiative was designed to ensure that the council played it part in improving the livelihood its constituents.

    He reiterated the commitment of his administration to raising the standard of living of all residents.

    “Being in government is all about serving people and that is why there’s a human face in whatever we are doing.

    “I decided that after doing infrastructural work, renovating schools, doing roads and building hospitals, what can we do for the people?

    “We came up with this initiative and I am excited because of the reaction here today. You can see the joy in the faces of this women as they received the alert.

    “We said let’s see how we can empower women so that they can grow their businesses.

    “Today, 400 women received N50,000 each to improve their businesses and we are glad we did this,” he said.

    Atanda-Lawal noted that the council would continue to empower residents of the LCDA, and that the council would soon inaugurate other notable projects.

    “By the special grace of God, we will come back in two months to present grants to another set of beneficiaries.

    “Things are very hard now but we must help,’’ he added.
