    Ikoyi Club partners NSF on grassroots development

    THE squash section of the Ikoyi Club 1938 are planning a partnership programme with the Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF), as they organized a six-day competition which ends today.

    The competition is powered by Prime Atlantic, and started on Monday at the Ikoyi Club.

    About 65 participants registered for the competition, and they were categorised into groups A,B,C, and D. It also feature the ex-professionals, the women, and veteran categories.

    Speaking in a press conference staged to herald the competition, Chairman of the Squash section, Ikoyi Club, Tokunbo Ogundipe said the main focus of the section is to develop the sport from the grass root and discover budding talents.

    “Our facilities are in good condition, there’s much more interest among members of the section. We’ve also tried to reach out to the younger members of the section. The coaches are doing bit of small trainings and generally its having its impact on the game.

    “The Nigeria Squash Federation is in charge of squash in the country, ours is only within the club, so if we are to make any impart nationwide, more so now that squash has been approved for the Olympics.”

    The belongings of late hip hop star and Big Brother Africa Housemate was yesterday, May 1, auctioned at her residence, 30B, Ologunkutere Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.

    The property of the singer, who passed on February 14, 2013 shortly after returning from the last Grammy Award, was displayed for sale and some of the items include her house fittings, a 72” Pioneer flat screen television set, camera, glass cups, personal effects some of which had not been worn such as clothes, shoes, jewelries among other things.

    However, Goldie’s costume, as ordered by her husband, Mr. Andrew Harvey, is to be sent to the University of Lagos Creative Arts Department. Also, Engineering Text books belonging to her husband are to be sent Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech). Other items for sale which are still left unsold include her 500 ML Mercedes Benz. Proceeds from the auction, according to information released by late Goldie’s family, will be sent to Project Alert, a charity organisation she was associated with when she was alive. To action the property for the family was Mrs. Akinkuotu and Deji Adetayo.

    Mrs. Akinkuotu gave reason for giving the proceeds to the NGO. She said the family are not interested in the proceeds are they are comfortable and do not the money.

    Among those who came to buy from the items is Engineer Isaac who showed interest in the artiste’s concrete hanger. Although, he wasn’t seen bargaining for the item, it wasn’t certain if he eventually left with it. Others present were not willing to talk to the press.

    Mr. Raymond Bola-Brown, Head of Highgroove Radio, a friend to Mr. Harvey who granted this reporter audience, also used the opportunity to clear the air on the late singer’s marriage. According to him, Mr. Harvey, the late singer husband was married but was divorced before he married the singer.

    On the story that the woman in question happens to be Goldie’s friend, Mr. Raymond dismissed the story. He said, “It’s not true that they are friends.”

    The belongings of late Hip hop star and Big Brother Africa housemate, Goldie Susan Harvey are up for sale at her residence, 30B,  Ologunkutere Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.

    This was disclosed in a statement by her family representative, Deji Adetayo. Mr. Adetayo noted that the late artiste did not leave a will but agreed with her husband before her death to auction her belongings.

    In the statement, Mr. Adetayo said, “there will be a garage sale at Goldie’s house located at 30B, Ologunkutere Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos on May 1, 2013”. The proceeds from the sale will be donated to a charity organization, “Project Alert On Violence Against

    Women”.

    The artiste died on February 14, few hours after returning from the Grammy Awards.

    Kennis Music, label  of the late singer, Goldie Harvey  has officially confirmed the shocking and untimely passage of the  pop star.

    A terse statement issued by the President of music outfit, Keke Ogungbe, midnight Thursday reads: “With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award.

    “She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening. We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her.

    “She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage.

    “We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.” Meanwhile, the remains of Goldie who hails from Ekiti State has been deposited at the mortuary of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos. Goldie represented Nigeria at the Big Brother Star Game in 2012. Her latest effort, she described as three nawti singles from her forthcoming African Invasion album are “Skibo”. “Miliki” and ” Got To Have It,” presently enjoying heavy rotations on radio and TV stations across the continent. Burial arrangements will be announced by the family. May her soul rest in peace.

    There had been rumour that the late singer was engaged to fellow Housemate, Prezzo, who had come to Nigeria shortly after the Big Brother competition, to appease her of his wrongdoings. Everyone was looking forward to their wedding in 2013. Born Susan Filani,Goldie as she is fondly called change her name to Susan Harvey on arrival from England.
