Senator Imasuen to join APC on June 12

The Labour Party(LP) Senator representing Edo South District, Neda Imasuen, has confirmed his plan to  join  the All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 12.

Imasuen is the only senator elected on the platform of the LP in Edo State.

He said the disarray within the LP was responsible for his planned defection.

Senator Imasuen, who spoke in Benin City, said the defection to the APC was part of activities to mark his second year in office.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions said his defection  was to align Edo South with the  Federal Government development priorities under President Bola  Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He explained that his defection was a strategic decision and not opportunism.

Senator Imasuen listed his achievements to include the Federal College of Education, Abudu (Establishment) Bill, and resolution of over 20 public petitions.

On challenges in sustaining constituency projects, Imasuen called for stronger local government cooperation.

He pledged his continued focus on health, youth empowerment, rural development and support for President Tinubu’s policies.

“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions, over 20 public petitions from across the country have been successfully resolved under my leadership.

“These interventions have made a significant difference in the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

“Several agricultural programmes have been implemented in Edo South to train farmers in modern techniques and provide tools for enhanced productivity. “We’ve focused on rubber, cocoa, and cashew farming. There are testimonies from farmers whose yields have improved significantly.”

He said: “I have come to the conclusion that since members of our National Working Committee (NWC), in their wisdom, have expressed their preference for zoning the governorship position to Edo Central Senatorial District, it is wise to align with the decision of the party.
