    Abductors kill man in botched kidnap attempt in Imo

    A tragic incident unfolded in Atta Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State when abductors shot dead a young man in his 30s while he was trying to escape.

    The abductors had trailed the victim to a petrol station at Umuololo Village on Wednesday and attempted to force him into their car.

    In a desperate bid to flee, the man broke free from the abductors’ grip and ran for his life.

    However, the hoodlums chased after him, firing several shots that ultimately proved fatal.

    According to eyewitnesses, the operatives from the Ikeduru police division arrived at the scene two days later and took the deceased to a mortuary.

    Imo Police spokesman, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident on Friday, stated: “The Command is aware of this unfortunate incident that happened on 21/05/2025 and has launched a detailed investigation to apprehend the miscreants responsible for his untimely death.”

    As the investigation unfolds, the community remains shaken by the brazen nature of the crime.

    The incident highlights the need for increased security measures to protect citizens from such heinous acts.

    Operatives of Obowo Divisional Headquarters, have arrested the owner of ‘Our Guest House’ at Umulogho in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, Ibe Obasi, 38,, who was allegedly involved in the murder of a 25-year-old staff Ebuka Udemba.

    Ebuka, an indigene of Umuokpa in Obowo LGA, was reportedly killed by the suspect and two military personnel over missing phone belonging to the officer.

    According to the statement by the Imo police spokesman Henry Okoye, the preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was tortured and locked up inside the generator room by the suspect and two others at large where he suffocated to death, on the accusation of stealing a customer’s handset.

    The suspect, he said, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Owerri for consolidation of the ongoing investigation.

    “He has provided useful information that will assist the command operatives in arresting all the suspects in connection to the case.

    “While commiserating with the families, friends, and relatives of the victim, the Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the cruel act and calls on the people of Obowo LGA, particularly the residents of Umulogho to refrain from taking laws into their hands as the Command is on top of the situation,” he further explained.
