  • Firm inaugurates N100m office complex

    Pertinence Nigeria Limited, an indigenous firm with  interest in real estate business,has inaugurated its head office complex in Egbeda area of Lagos State.

    The two-storey edifice, worthover N100 million sits on about 600 square meters, while the office occupies about 300 square metres. The attached hall and auditorium sit on the remaining  space.

    The architect, Mr. Abel Adejo, explained that the hall, if arranged in theatre view sitting, has the capacity for 600 people and for seminar or for about 350 people for wedding arrangement.

    On its first floor are the administration office, the server room and eight other office spaces; the second floor accommodates the executive directors’ offices, which has a lounge connecting the two offices; two bedrooms attached to it, and a 22-seater boardroom.

    Adejo told The Nation that in compliance with climate change and green building advocacy, the entire building has a large number of glass works. This, he explained, is to admit artificial lightening into the building.

    “If the whole building is fitted with bulbs there will be too much heat. It is part of the design to be green architecture in compliance with the changing world especially n the face of climate change,” Adejo said.

    Concerning acoustics, the architect said the hall is designed to eliminate echo- a feat achieved with the rug placement in certain parts of the hall, tile flooring and plaster of paris (POP) ceiling.

    The parking lot is designed to accommodate 60 vehicles, all parked without causing any blockage to each other.

    Its Executive Director, Mr. Sunday Olorunsheyi, said the inauguration  was significant given that the day marked five years of the company’s coming into existence. For him, it is a mark of God’s favour on the business, considering the very humble beginning it had.

    “We are five years old today and God has been faithful to us. When we look back, we know that it has been God. Today, we also celebrate integrity, because that is what has kept us in business and brought us thus far,” Olorunsheyi said.

    The second Executive Director, Mr. Wisdom Ezekiel, agreed. He explained that with integrity, they have been able to build the business, which he said, has now grown in leaps and bounds. For Ezekiel, the feat could not have been achieved with the customers, who trusted the firm with their money.

    “We want to specially thank our clients today for staying by us and believing in us. They are our strongest partners and our assets and we do not take them for granted. We also thank God for the loyal staff we have had all through,” Ezekiel said.

    Osinbajo inaugurates 5,000 tonnes cashew processing plant

    Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has inaugurated a 5,000 tonnes per year capacity cashew processing factory in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

    He was accompanied by the governor of the state, Abdulfatah Ahmed; Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; CEO/Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Olusegun Awolowo and Executive Director, Bank of Industry (BoI), Waheed Olagunju.

    Prof Osinbajo, after a guided tour of the plant owned by FoodPro Limited, said he was impressed by the factory and its commitment to adhere  to global standards. He expressed the administration’s resolve to support the private sector with policies that would aid local businesses.

    FoodPro co-founder/CEO, Ayo Olajiga, took Osinbajo on a guided tour of the factory, the different stages of cashew processing from sizing and boiling, shelling and scooping, to drying and peeling and finally, grading and packaging.

    According to Olajiga, the importance of cashew processing to economic development cannot be over-emphasised, as it creates sustainable jobs (both direct and indirect) and leads to overall increase in the value of the cashew sector.

    She said: “Through domestic processing of raw cashew nuts, we have created more than 400 direct jobs and several thousands indirect jobs for farmers, vendors, suppliers and artisans, who form the heartbeat of FoodPro’s value chain.

    “With 90 per cent of FoodPro’s employees being women, we are humbled by the role we play in impacting communities and improving economic and social development conditions in our host community.”

    Olajiga expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, acting through its agencies such as NEPC and BoI, both housed under the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI).

    Over the years, the NEPC under the leadership of Awolowo has worked to help FoodPro gain valuable market access via local and international trade shows in Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates and the United States (US).

    Olajiga added that NEPC from time to time has provided the company with export-related training, while BoI provided the funding used to acquire machinery and continue to support efforts to effectively operate the factory

    FoodPro Limited has been in operation since 2013. The company recently ramped up its capacity from 1,000 to 5,000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts per annum, making it the largest locally owned cashew processing company in Nigeria.

    In addition, FoodPro’s factory is the only factory certified by the African Cashew Alliance for Food Safety and Quality.

    Also, the company has unveiled its latest addition to the FoodPro product range, GoNutz, its range of flavoured cashews.

    In the near future, the company plans to double its operating capacity further to 10,000 tonnes, commence export of packaged and branded goods, including existing brands, Lion Cashew and Go Nutz as well as a range of additional products that are currently in the development phase.

  • RCCG inaugurates road in Ogba

    The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) , Living Spring Model Parish, yesterday inaugurated Bayo Adeyemo Street in Oke Ira, Ogba, Lagos State.

    The Provincial Pastor of Lagos Province 2, Pastor Yemi Lebi, said the gesture was inline with the church’s vision in giving back to the society.

    His words: “We believe in giving back to the society where our church is located. We thank God for the completed project and we are also grateful to the community and those who supported in making the project a reality.”

    Pastor-in-charge Femi Onasanwo said the bad state of the road brought about the need to fix it. “Part of the vision of the church is to win souls and double attendance. We saw the need to fix the road because prior to now, many of our invitees do not come and and those who come do not want to come back. We used interlocking stones because we wanted a quality job which would last generations. We spent about N6 million for the about 750 square metres road. I don’t know how God raised the money but I know He did it.”

    He urged residents and road users to maintain the road and ensure it is kept clean.

  • Council inaugurates excos

    The Chairman, Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA),  Shamsudeen Abiodun Olaleye has sworn in executive committee members.

    The swearing-in, held at the council hall, was witnessed by dignitaries including Jude Emeka Idimogu (KSM) and lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency II in the House of Assembly, Chief M.A. Taiwo, and other prominent politicians.

    Olaleye urged the executives to live up to expectations in their responsibilities, saying their appointment was a call to service which they must discharge with high sense of responsibility.

    He added that the selection of members of the committee cuts across the political groups of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isolo, stressing that their nomination and selection was endorsed by the top hierarchy of the APC in the state.

    His words: “The cabinet members we sworn in today were nominated by party leaders. Our duty is to swear them in, which we have done. I urge them to regard their appointment as a call to serve and not scuttle the council.

    “I don’t have anything against anybody; all I want from them is to be loyal to my administration. I wish all the executive.”

    Among the officers sworn in are Olojede Emmanuel Kolawole (Secretary to the council) and Helen Ogunmakinwa (Chief of Staff).

    The supervisors include Kubirat Taiwo, SaheedAbiodun, Nofisat Sobayo and Balikis Agbabiaka.

    Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Olojede thanked God and the council chief for counting them worthy for service. He described Olaleye as a good friend, brother and goal-getter who is ready to take Isolo LCDA to the next level.

    “On behalf of my colleagues, we promise not to disappoint the council chief. And we promise to do our best to take the council to the next level,” he said.

  • Okoh inaugurates board for cable station

    •’Our church deserves standard TV station’

    The Anglican Church will continue to run a world standard electronic medium to keep winning souls for God, its Primate, Most Reverend Nich Okoh, has said.

    He spoke when he inaugurated the Board of Directors of Anglican Cable Network Nigeria Television  (ACNN) headed by veteran journalist, Chief Folu Olamiti, at the church’s headquarters in Abuja. The Church turns 500 this month.

    The primate charged the ACNN Board to work hard and register as a household name in Nigeria with appealing programmes.

    He commended the philanthropy by Mr. & Mrs. Modupe Alakija towards the church, recalling that the initial funds offered by the family led to the take off of ACNN.

    He called on well-meaning Anglican churches across Nigeria to rise in support of the TV project with funds meant to drive the success of the television project.

    Olamiti thanked the primate for confidence in the Board, vowing that members would do their best to take the TV station to the next level of professional excellence.

    Other members of the newly inaugurated Board of Directors of the ACNN include the Rt. Rev’d Blessing Enyindah (Deputy Chairman); the Rt. Rev’d Chidi Oparajiaku; Mr. T.B Akinyeye; Dr. G.T.N Ajakpo; Ven. Dr. Dade Sadare, Mrs. Bisi Amagada and Mrs. Ngozi Adighibe.

     

  • Odu’a inaugurates N500m residential estate in Ibadan

    The management of Odu’a Investments Limited yesterday inaugurated a N500 million residential estate in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

    This is the regional group’s first project for boosting real estate portfolios beyond the N7 billion mark.

    The project, called Ace Estate, sits on a 4,400-square metre land at highbrow Jericho Government Reserved Area (GRA). It consists of seven detached duplexes and a recreation centre, with a swimming pool and gym centre.

    At the inauguration, the pioneer chairman of the company’s Board of Directors, Chief Kola Daisi, described it as “an architectural masterpiece, quintessentially designed and tastefully finished as a manifestation of aesthetics, quality and luxury rolled into one”.

    He hailed the company for being in “the vanguard of upholding the common heritage of the Yoruba nation and with a renewed mandate to be the engine room for the economic development and competitiveness of Western Nigeria”.

    Daisi, who chaired the programme, said the project demonstrated Odu’a’s commitment to operate as a major player in the Real Estate sector.

    The industrialist noted that it will enhance economic development and quality of life of residents.

    He urged the company to include agro-allied and manufacturing in its diversification agenda for the improvement of the economy of Southwest.

    The conglomerate’s Group Managing Director, Adewale Raji, said the project cost N500 million, sourced internally.

    The company chief said the project was completed in nine months.

    He said the estate heralded the company into property development, based on consumer demands and insight, adding that it is a means of redefining the conglomerate.

    Raji said: “The contemporary designs, quality of finishing and timely delivery are a new benchmark in real estate development in Ibadan. Ace Estate was conceived and delivered as a flagship to announce Odu’a’s re-entry into property development, based on consumer demand and insight.     NANTAP inaugurates body of fellows

    The National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) will today induct its Fellows into the Body of Fellows (BoF), the highest advisory body of the association.

    The event will hold at Planet One, Maryland, Lagos.

    Also at the ceremony, three outstanding veterans of the theatre profession, Usman Baba Pategi, popularly known as Samanja; Alhaji Adebayo Salami, (Oga Bello), and Chief Chika Okpala (MFR), alias Zebrudaya along other prominent practitioners would on the same day be Invested as Fellows for their contributions to the practice and business of theatre.

    NANTAP President, Israel Eboh (fta) said that “honouring those who are deserving of honour in the profession is a sure way to encourage others to also give their best.”

    NANTAP is the umbrella body of all theatre and allied arts practitioners in Nigeria with twenty six (26) branches spread across the country and the Body of Fellows comprises practitioners who have reached the peak of their career in theatre practice and, or administration and are designated as Distinguished Fellows of Theatre Art (FTA)

  • Ogun inaugurates 38-man committee

    The Ogun State government has inaugurated a 38-man committee on State Strategic Health Development Plan (SSHDP), in conjunction with Pathfinder International to reduce maternal, child mortality rate in the state.

    The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babtunde Ipaye while inaugurating the committee at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, charged them to think out of the box in discharging their responsibilities.

    He added that the committee has only five years to deliver the task before them, enjoining them to make the state proud in terms of healthcare service delivery as it was the second cardinal programme of Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration.

    Ipaye said the committee would work round the clock for the next five years to fulfill the expectation of Federal Ministry of Health to have the bottom top approach to the development on the National strategic plan on health, adding that whatever development adopted in the state would be sent to the Federal Government as part of National Health Plan.

    “We are modifying the expectation of Federal Government plan in such a way that will have postive impact on our people, not only to fulfil our Federal Government template but to build around our three-tier programmes of primary, secondary and tertiary health services “, Ipaye said.

    He said that it was imperative to manage the healthcare of the people, especially in the community areas and to reflect the approach of the financing health particularly the Community Based Health Insurance Scheme (CBHIS), “Araya” that permits indigent people of the state key into the scheme from the five years plan programme.

    He said the programme would mainly target the majority with Malaria, HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Maternal care, immunisation and others rather than leverage on the state government alone but partnering  international bodies to achieve the best.

    He added that the committee would also provide a template for the state to fortify the over 477 primary healthcare centres across the state with necessary equipment, manpower and international resources to deliver these responsibilties in the various communities, noting that every federal constituencyof the state would have effective service care centres in order to provide comprehensive service to the people.

    The Pathfinder International Country Representative, Dr. Farouk Jega, admonished the committee to deliver their services as and when due and with utmost diligence, dedication and commitment, noting that their outcome would be a template for the Federal Government in planning and designing healthcare services for the people.

    He said that with the vision, mission and preparation of the committee and the state strategic health development plan, it was believed that they would deliver and make the state proud.

    In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. Nofiu Aigoro, urged the committee to fast-track the implementation of health care services delivery that would be of benefit to the masses, noting that he has confidence in the committee.

    Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi yesterday inaugurated an ultra-modern ICT centre at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.

    The Florence Ajimobi Information Technology Building, equipped with 100 computers, was donated  by the governor’s wife, Florence, to mark her 58th birthday.

    According to him, “we are here to celebrate the foundation of growth and development because education is the key to development.

    “Leading nations are those that prioritise education and the major part of education today is ICT.

    “The illiterates of today are not those who cannot read and write but those that cannot use ICT gadgets properly.

    He described his wife as a masterpiece of nature, epitome of beauty and a priceless jewel,who he said he will marry again.

  • Drama as Adamawa commissioner inaugurates non-functional borehole

    There was a mild drama in Pallam Village of Madagali  Local Government Area of Adamawa on Friday when a newly sunk borehole failed to pump water during its formal inauguration by the state Commissioner for Water Resources.

    The Commissioner, Mr Julius Kadala, who represented the state governor at the occasion, was shocked and embarrassed when water failed to flow from the hand pump after several minutes  of pumping by him.

    Dignitaries, including members of the state House of Assembly and traditional rulers, also looked visibly embarrassed by the incident.

    The water project was  initiated and sponsored by United States based non- governmental  organization ” Zumunta Association, Washington DC chapter” for Pallam community, which is among areas recovered from Boko Haram insurgents.

    ” This is embarrassing and unfortunate; I want to draw the attention of Zumunta  Association that this borehole it donated is not functional,” Kadala said.

    He directed that the contractor that handled the project, be invited to tackle the problem.

    Also speaking, Mr. Yusuf Muhammed, Chairman of Madagali  Local Government Council, expressed displeasure, adding that if the council had been involved in the project, it would have ensured that the right thing was done.

    ” If we have been informed from the beginning of the project we could have monitored the work to its logical conclusion.” Muhammed said.

    He however thanked the NGO for its good intention of identifying with the plight of the community that was trying to pick up after the insurgency.

    Responding on behalf of the organization , Mr. Hazial Haniel , the supervisor of the project, said that he was not ruling out the possibility of act of sabotage.

    ” I am highly surprised about this  development as  this morning before your arrival, I took bath with water from the pump,”  Haniel said.

    He said that he would send a situation report to the initiator for necessary action.
