IPOB: Kanu not in Military custody – Army

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said the various military operations going on across the country to deal with the various security challenges would be sustained, noting that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) group, is not in military custody.

Defence Spokesman, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, stated this at a news conference in Abuja on Friday.

Enenche also said that the exercises were being carried out by the armed forces not only to tackle the challenges but to train personnel, adding that they were being done in line with best international practices.

He declared the unalloyed loyalty of the military to the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Responding to questions, Enenche urged the citizens not to be alarmed in the face of the presence of the military in almost all parts of the country.

He explained that they were assisting civil authorities to tackle emerging security threats.

The defence spokesman noted that the emerging threats were not unexpected as the nation passes through various stages of development.

According to him, some of the advanced countries have also passed these stages where their armed forces are called in to assist civil authorities to tackle security challenges.

On the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Enenche maintained he was not in custody of the military as being insinuated in some quarters.

On the quit notice issued to the Igbo by Arewa youths to leave the Northern part of the country on or before October 1, he said that the issue had been addressed by the political leadership.

He, however, said that measures had been put in place to address any eventuality and assured the citizens that they were safe to live wherever they chose in the country to carry out their legitimate businesses.

Group challenges IPOB, Yoruba youths on Nigerian Unity

The Coalition for the Defence of Nigeria’s Sovereignty has declared that the position of the United States of America over the declaration of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group by the Federal Government, is highly condemnable.

The group, during a protest on Friday, made the declaration while commiserating with Nigerians who fell victim of the activities of IPOB loyalists in Abia state and other parts of the South-East.

Speaking at the protest venue, Otunba Bolaji Alabi, the National President/Convener, noted that the group came out to protest against “something that we know threatens not just our dear country, Nigeria, but also poses a risk to our culture as Yoruba. It is a culture we cherish as passionately as we respect our nationality as Nigerians.

“Our compatriots in South-east Nigeria, our Igbo brothers, have a challenge on their hands by way of some errant persons that are advocating for a forceful breakup of Nigeria. They are pursuing this evil enterprise under the name of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, which the Federal Government of Nigeria has properly designated to be a terrorist group. This decision has been confirmed by the court in accordance with what the anti-terrorism law prescribes.

“We were taken aback when the United States of America said IPOB is not a terrorist organization. We find the position of the United States abhorrent and highly condemnable in the light of the psychological and emotional trauma that this terrorist group has caused us collectively as a people. Even in the US, every single thing that members of this terrorist group have done in recent weeks will lead to jail terms.

The United States should desist from making decisions from the comfort of its echo chambers, in which it only hears itself without the benefit of appreciating what the end recipients of the situation under consideration go through. In this regard, the hate speech hurled at Yoruba by IPOB members online alone qualify as terrorism. They have repeatedly referred to us as “yorobastards” “yoropigs” “yaribads” and other derogatory appellations.”

According to him, the disdain with which this terrorist organization hold us as a people was deplorable to the extent that IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, directed his members to kill Yoruba after branding us as colluding with the Hausa/Fulani. Below are a few instances of him threatening us as a people:

“No Igbo man should attend any Church where the pastor is a Yoruba man, they are criminals and fools.”
“Any Igbo Person who attends any Church Pastored by a Yoruba Man is an Imbecile”
“Pastor Kumuyi should be stoned and dealt with thoroughly if he comes to Aba for his planned crusade.”
“Nigeria is a zoo and everybody living in that Godforsaken zoo deserves to die.”

“Nigeria should prepare for war, we are coming to annihilate you, my secret service is already studying the zoo and strategising.”

He further noted that IPOB has also been attempting to recruit and radicalize Yoruba youths to create a version of the terror group in the south-west of Nigeria oblivious to our nationalistic spirit and staunch belief in the unity of Nigeria.

“It was these brainwashed youths that had unsuccessfully attempted making demands for the Oodu’a Republic, which does not enjoy any backing among us. The culture of hate speech being promoted by IPOB, which it is teaching these youths is alien to us as we are taught to be respectful and considerate of other humans.

“We wonder what would be the fate of anyone that repeatedly incite others to violence through the promotion of hate speech and go the extra mile to actualize the threats as we witnessed in Rivers State when IPOB terrorists were stopping commercial buses and singling out non-Igbo passengers, including Yoruba, for attacks.

“These IPOB’s activities have already negatively affected the economy and unleashed hardship on the population from which Yoruba are not immune. This situation is unacceptable and we do not see why any country will offer support to a terrorist group that is responsible for human suffering on this scale.

“We have decided as a people that our lot is in a united and indivisible Nigeria. It is inconceivable that we change who we are as Yoruba because some terrorists have been bolstered by the US.  To be so insulted, derided, attacked and killed by IPOB terrorists for this conviction is unacceptable. It was on this note that we commended the court’s declaration of IPOB as a terrorist organization; if the United States thinks and says otherwise then we have no option than to begin to treat that country as a state sponsor of terrorism.

“May we also point out that stakeholder may know the start of this contention but no one knows where it would head or where it would end. IPOB is already exporting its violence as seen in Bengaluru, India on September 24, 2017, when violence by members of the terror group left one person dead and property destroyed. The US is home to many Nigerians and it is a matter of time before IPOB export its violence to that country and we boldly warn the US to watch out in Houston, Texas, where IPOB has vibrant cells.

“Our thoughts are that the United States corrects its mistake within a reasonable time so that IPOB would not use its position as an excuse to spread its violence and hatred to other parts of the world. We are closely monitoring to see how soon the US would do the right thing by distancing itself from a terror organization that has the Yoruba in its crosshairs,” Alabi summed.

    IGP assesses Abia after unrest

After members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) clashed with military personnel in Abia State, Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Kpotun visits the state to evaluate the damage and smoothen relations among communities, SUNNY NWANKWO writes

Since the clash two weeks ago, prominent figures have been visiting Abia State with peace on their minds. Northern state governors were the first to show up, thanking Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his Southeast governors for their role in quelling the crisis with members of Indigenous People of Biafra or IPOB, and appealing to northern residents to follow the path of peace.

The state Commissioner of Police, Anthony Ogbizi and Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Operations, Police Force Headquarters, Taiwo Lakanu also played a huge role in curtailing the crisis. Lakanu led about 500 mobile policemen to the state in the heat of the crisis.

Heads of security agencies in the country have visited too, all playing a part in saving the country an unnecessary catastrophe.

The Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Kpotun was the latest to take his turn. He was scheduled to visit the burnt Ariaria Police Station and Onions market along Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway. The IGP was also billed to meet with Yoruba and Hausa communities in Aba, the commercial and enterprise hub of the state.

Though the IGP failed to come to Aba which, The Nation gathered, was as a result of delayed flight owing to bad weather, he posthumously promoted Cyril Nwosu, the station officer of Ariaria police station who later died from wounds sustained when suspected IPOB members invaded the station. The late Nwosu is now Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

The IGP also held a town-hall meeting with traditional rulers and major stakeholders in the state at the Michael Okpara Auditorium where he stated that Nigeria would function better when united, adding that it was the responsibility of every Nigerian to ensure that there was tolerance and unity among the ethnic groups in the country.

The police chief assured that the force through its personnel would do everything possible to ensure that peace was sustained in the state and across the country at all times.

He said, “We have seen a lot of changes, the happiness on the faces of people. I believe that Nigeria will grow stronger and I have faith in the unity of this country. We see the police force as enablers that can help us drive growth in all aspects of our economic growth in Nigeria. We believe firmly that unless there is security we cannot grow or prosper.

“History is replete with countries that try to break away and come back also. So I want you to continue with your work. Beyond the recession, Nigeria is trying to create a foothold by attracting direct foreign investment, so we need to have security.”

Also speaking at the interactive session with Abia traditional rulers and members of Hausa and Yoruba communities at the Michael Okpara Auditorium later, Governor Ikpeazu assured that Abia is a very peaceful state and would remain so despite the ugly incidents that broke out in the state.

“We reaffirm our faith in one Nigeria,” he said.

Ikpeazu who commended the IGP for visiting the state, also used the opportunity as the chief marketer of made in Aba goods, to presented the IGP with some home-made products at the Government House.

The IGP was accompanied on the visit by the Assistant inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 9 Umuahia, Hosea Karma, the state Commissioner of Police, Anthony Ogbizi and his Imo State counterpart, Chris Ezike, among other senior police officers.

  • Abaribe denies being queried for standing surety for IPOB leader

Abaribe denies being queried for standing surety for IPOB leader

Leader of South East Senate caucus, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Wednesday protested a report that he was queried by the Senate for standing surety for the bail of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Abaribe through a Point of Order, tendered a copy of Daily Trust publication of yesterday with the head line that the Abia South senator was queried by the Senate for being one of those who guaranteed Kanu bail.

He insisted that no such thing happened and wondered why the newspaper could publish what he described as “fake news.”

The lawmaker also said that the meeting the publication was based was a closed door session which was not open to the public.

Abaribe said that he was at a loss where the newspaper got its information.

He told the Senate that his “constituents are deeply worried over the unverified report as was published by the newspaper.”

Abaribe said, “Our meeting was a closed door one. A headline like this purporting to say that this was what happened in the meeting is wrong.

“You and I know that this did not happen. My constituents have been worried and I told them that it is not true.

‘Daily Trust should be made to produce who gave them this misleading information.

“This report is trying to drive a wedge between northern and southern senators because it claimed that northern senators made a demand which southern senators grudgingly agreed to.”

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who presided also said that the meeting was a closed session which was not open to the public.

He referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to investigate and report back in two weeks.

Ekweremadu added, “You all know that nothing like that happened in the meeting. What is closed should remain so.”

One of the bail conditions given by an Abuja Federal High Court for Kanu to be granted bail was that a serving senator should be one of those that should stand surety for his bail.

Abaribe as the leader of the south east senate caucus was mandated to endorse the bail.

  • Peace above all

The clampdown on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) a fortnight ago has no doubt generated a controversy in the country. Tension in the country resulting from the activities of the group had reached an alarming rate.

Members of the group were reported to have started violent attacks on northerners residing in the Southeast.

They were reported to have been stopping vehicles in the Southeast and specifically searching for northerners, among other accusations.

Their actions resulted in reprisal attacks in Plateau State while it took great efforts to stop such reprisal attacks in other parts of the country.

Apart from the military operation codenamed ‘Python Dance II’ and other security forces drafted to the Southeast to maintain law and order, the government wasted no time to declare IPOB a terrorist group. Drafting the military to the Southeast also triggered various interpretations and debate.

While some Nigerians felt that the government was too harsh on the group led by Nnamdi Kanu, others felt that the group shouldn’t have been allowed to spread its tentacles and operate at the level it did two weeks ago.

Still, other Nigerians felt that the government should have ignored Kanu and his group from the outset, while some of them at the same time believed that the government made a mistake by allowing Kanu to be released on bail in the first instance.

Some of those against the move by the Federal Government believed that the Python shouldn’t have been allowed to dance in the Southeast.

Among those who did not support deployment of soldiers in quelling internal crises included former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said, “However, we want to advise the Buhari administration, which has announced plans to extend the military show of force to the South-South and the South-West through Operation Crocodile Smile, to tread with caution.

“Nigeria is no longer under military rule. In a democracy, you separate the military from the police. The military is not meant to fight criminality within a nation because they are trained to fight a nation’s external enemies.

“It is the police that are trained to fight crime internally. When the military starts doing the job of the police and starts fighting or doing what they call a ‘show of force’, the effect will not be to reduce crime. The effect will be to intimidate people.”

Specifically on IPOB, he said, “The insinuations in the press conference given by Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Sunday, accusing the opposition of sponsoring the IPOB and the fact that he mentioned that Nnamdi Kanu preached Nigerian unity during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan is another clear indication that the present administration has not left propaganda mode for proper agenda mode two and a half year into their tenure.

“If the government, in which Lai Mohammed serves, knows which opposition members are sponsoring IPOB, then they should identify them, arrest them and then prosecute them.” he said

He added, “It is our suspicion that Lai Mohammed is talking from history seeing as he criticized the Jonathan government for banning Boko Haram in a statement he released on June 10, 2013, even though the Jonathan government had gone through due process before proscribing that murderous sect.

The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, had also faulted the military and said it was illegal for it to declare IPOB a terrorists group.

But IPOB, to many Nigerians, had however played the grooves that necessitated the Python dance in the South East.

Speaking on the issues last Wednesday, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed said: “I think anybody who has watched Nnamdi Kanu’s videos anywhere he goes to he openly solicits for arms and for funds, I have a lot of quotations from him as to the violence intention of IPOB, in one of his videos he said if he is arrested his boys should burn down the country, the same Kanu went on television a few days ago saying he was sleeping at about 4:30pm in his house in Umuahia and then some solders were making noises they were disturbing his sleep and his boys stopped them.

“I ask him which country in the world would tolerate this. Unfortunately Nigerians, we have short memories at times, or we tend to be very mischievous because this thing is being turned into oh the North is persecuting the south east or muslims persecuting christians we have forgotten that in 1983 there was a group called Maitasini in Kano, they were crushed by Shagari government, they were muslims and northerners.

“When they relocated to Burukutu they were again crushed by Shagari,l. When Buhari became Head of State, the same Maitasini raised their head, he chased them far into the Chad Republic as then the Head of State, I remember that time he was accused by America of trying to expand Ghadafi’s agenda.

“Abacha in his own time dealt also with Maitasini and he was a muslim, President Yar Adua in 2010 was on his way to the airport when he got a report about Boko Haram, he sent army to go and destroy them, these were muslims from the north dealing with essentially islamic muslim insurgencies.

“Anything about insurgence or terrorists act, you don’t think about religion, you don’t think about ethnicity, you think about the unity of the country.

“Honestly Nigeria has been very very lucky, last week there would have been massive bloodshed if reprisals had taken place outside the south east and it didn’t take place because our traditional rulers, our governors and other leaders went out to pacify people and the kind of stories that has been trending on the social media has not helped things, as a matter of fact there was one stating that a major general had been killed, not knowing that it was a retired major that was killed in Benue state over land matters, that would have set the entire country ablaze.” He said

He went on “And they think its a joke, you can imagine what would have happened if the people of Kano or Kaduna started retaliation, so we are in a very dangerous situation and actually we are sitting on a keg of gun powder. The peace that you are seeing is deceptive we must continue to work on it and we must continue to counter this very untrue narrative.

“On the basis of that we have heard some funny bones saying that Nigeria should be expelled from the United Nations because they are perpetuating genocide, this government will not stifle anybody’s freedom of expression, but when you cross the line for the sake of national unity we won’t allow you.”

“We have the records, we know IPOB collects money from many people from diaspora, they collect money from many people in Nigeria they collect money from some foreign countries, this is clear.

Stressing that it was the rights of individuals or groups to seek self-determination, he had maintained that it should be pursued in a non-violent manner.

“Where any group crosses the line by engaging in violence, it risks being cut to size and that’s exactly what has happened to IPOB.

“I am not interested in the semantics or legality of troops deployment or the proscription of IPOB. All I know is that IPOB has engaged in terrorist activities, viz: Setting up parallel military and paramilitary organizations, clashing with the national army and attempting to seize rifles from soldiers, using weapons such as machetes, molotov cocktails and sticks and mounting roadblocks to extort money from people, among others.

“To those who have engaged in semantics or legality, I ask: Which country in the world will tolerate those activities I have listed above? Which national army will look the other way when it is being attacked by a band of thugs?” he queried.

While dialogue should be explored fully to resolve all agitations in the country, it will definitely not augur well for peace and unity of the nation to be slaughtered on the altar of religion and ethnic sentiments.

IPOB urges court to set aside proscription order

The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Friday prayed the Federal High Court in Abuja should set aside the order of injunction proscribing the activities of the group.

Recall that the Chief Judge of the Federal High, Justice Abdu Kafarati, on Wednesday in Abuja, granted Federal Government an interim injunction proscribing activities of the group.

Kafarati granted the injunction in chambers after the Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, had approached the court with an exparte motion urging the court to do so.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier given written approval for the proscription of the group, pending legal process.

Governors of the Southeast states took the first step to ban the activities of the group after the military had declared it a militant terrorist group.

NAN reports that Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel to IPOB, led Maxwell Okpara, Chinwe Umeche, Habila Turshak, P. M. Umegborogu and Augustine Ezeokeke to file the process on behalf of the group.

The motion, with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/871/17 was brought pursuant to Section 6(6) (1) (4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended in 2011.

It was also brought under the inherent jurisdiction of the court.

The office of the Attorney-General of the Federation was listed as respondent.

The applicant averred that the grounds upon which the application was brought hinged on the fact that the Sept.20 exparte order made against it by the court was without jurisdiction.

The lead counsel said the order granted against the entity was unknown to law.

Ejiofor posited that there were clear suppression and misrepresentation of facts in the AGF’s affidavit evidence, pursuance to which the order was granted.

“The order is unconstitutional, as it was made in clear violation of constitutionally guaranteed right of the Indigenous People of Biafra to self-determination.

“It also violated Article 20(1) of the Africa Charter on Human & Peoples Rights, now domesticated into our law under (Ratification and Enforcement Act) (Cap 10) Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990.

“It ran against the right to fair hearing, right to freedom of expression and the press.

“It further violated the right to peaceful assembly and association clearly provided for under sections 36, 39 and 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as (Amended) 2011,’’ Ejiofor said.

According to him, a declaratory order cannot be made pursuant to an exparte application without hearing from the party against whom the order is made.

He submitted that the Indigenous People of Biafra who were majorly of Igbo extraction had no history of violence in exercising their right to self-determination.

“The Indigenous People of Biafra does not carry arms and has no history of arms struggle in the exercise of its constitutionally guaranteed right to self-determination.

“Prior and during the military invasion of the South Eastern states, IPOB members had never at any time resorted to arm struggle or engage in acts of violence capable of threatening national security.

Justice Binta Nyako of Federal High  Court No 4 had in her ruling delivered on March 1  held that the Indigenous People of Biafra was not an unlawful organisation.”

Ejiofor further said that Justice Nyako’s decision still subsisted as it was not appealed against to be set aside by any appellate court.

NAN reports that the matter is yet to be assigned to any judge of the court.

  • IPOB: PDP advises APC to look inward

IPOB: PDP advises APC to look inward

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to look inward in resolving the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) crisis.

The party gave the advice in a statement by its National Caretaker Committee’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Dayo Adeye, on Tuesday in Abuja.

It said that it was again constrained to react to a statement credited to the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, noting excuses and blame-game would not help in solving the problem.

The party said that the minister on Sunday tried to shift blames of the poor handling of the agitations of IPOB by the current administration to an opposition.

According to it, it is worrisome that government blamed opposition parties, which they have conveniently labelled looters, for the activities of IPOB.

It urged the APC to look inward in locating the looters using their ill-gotten wealth to sponsor separatist agitation against the government of the day.

It stated that no external enemy was working against the APC government and advised the party to do soul-searching and correct the anomaly.

“We wish to put on record that agitation for the actualisation of the State of Biafra was a total silent voice while the PDP was in power.

“That was because of the Government of inclusiveness we provided for Nigerians who were made to experience what a genuine national government meant.

“Finally, as a party, we had condemned and we are still condemning separatist movements tailored towards balkanising the nation.”

  • FG to take final decision on IPOB proscription – Army

FG to take final decision on IPOB proscription – Army

Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai yesterday said the Federal Government would take a final decision on the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the declaration of the organisation as a terrorist group.

He said: “There are guidelines as provided in the Act on the Terrorism Act and I’m sure the relevant government agencies I’m talking about will take appropriate steps whether to arrest or whether to do any other actions and we will receive the appropriate directives from the authorities. “

He also said the army was not under any form of political pressure on the position it took regarding the activities of the IPOB.

Gen. Buratai said the military had the duty and constitutional responsibility to protect lives and properties in the face of internal and external threats to the territorial integrity of the country, stressing that its actions against IPOB were necessitated by the provisions of the constitution.

He spoke to reporters after addressing Principal Staff Officers, Corps, Formations and Operations Commanders, Commandants of Nigerian Army and Corps Schools at the 2nd and 3rd Quarters Conference 2017 of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) at the Army Headquarters’ Officers Mess, Abuja.

He said: “Training is a continuous exercise, apart from the obvious exercises that you see but there are lot of other exercises that…from different force of the Nigerian Army and even from skills. So it is not a new thing, we have been training, we have been exercising on a regular basis.

“But once in a while we come and carry out a large-scale exercise to harmonise all the aspects of training that have been thought in training institutions and unit formations.

“Since we came on board in 2015, we have been having series of exercises and we did same set of exercise in 2016 and we are repeating the same thing this year and you are aware of Habin Kunama II, the on-going Egwu Eke II in the South and very soon at the end of Operation Python Dance we’ll move into Crocodile Smile II which will take a lot.

“This is just to reassure Nigerians, law-abiding citizens that the Nigerian Army and indeed other security agencies are really concerned with the safety and security of their lives and property. You are very much aware of the security challenges in the country.”

On the proscription of IPOB, Gen. Buratai said: “You see, you said political pressure. You should understand the context by which the Nigerian Army is operating. Nigerian Army is part of the political consideration in the democratic system.

“It is part of the democratic process. We are not receiving any pressure. We are given what the constitution has provided for us. Constitutionally, what our responsibilities are for us, so we are not under any pressure whatsoever.

“Whatever anyone is saying, we will refer him back to the constitution. There are several provisions that give us those responsibilities and also to carry out such task as duly assigned by the government or by the constituted authority.”

“Be rest assured that we don’t have any other role that is outside the constitution.”

He said the Army would conduct more exercises to sharpen personnel skills and prepare them to tackle emerging security challenges in the country.

Currently, exercise “Egwu Eke” – Python Dance II is underway in the five South East states – Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ebony and Cross River in the South South.

Gen. Buratai said: “I have given the necessary directives for officers to embark on mission specific training at home and overseas.

“This is in addition to effort in strengthening and exploring own local institutions.

“Commanders at all levels are to ensure that orientation cadres are conducted for young officers and soldiers posted to units in order to enshrine aspects of unit regimentation early in them.”

He charged formation commanders in theatre of operations to imbibe the spirit of in-theatre training based on terrain and the changing “tactics of adversary”.

Gen. Buratai noted that evolutionary and global security threats were being influenced by political, economic, social and technological factors.

“Therefore, the need for regular improvement on the existing capacity of the Nigerian Army to be able to deal with present and future security threats is imperative.

“To achieve this, it is paramount to carry out accurate threats assessment in the formulation of the nation’s security policies which would enhance the ability of the Nigerian Army to deal with these emerging internal security threats,” Gen. Buratai said.

Biafra: South East Govs, Senators, others should resign to join Kanu – Agitators

A coalition of Niger Delta agitators on Monday vowed to resist attempt to drag the Niger Delta region into the secession agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), but said it was time the Nigerian government allow the Igbos to have a country of their own in the interest of the nation’s nascent democracy.

The group said Nigeria must not be allowed to go into another civil war, pointing out that the same antics currently being employed by the group was employed in 1966, when Igbos masterminded the Civil War and involved the South-South in Biafra map and major infrastructures were destroy in Niger Delta with over 15 million south south people killed.

In a statement signed by leaders of the group, the group said it has reliable information that some top businessmen and politicians from South East zone are the sponsors of IPOB.

Those who signed the statement included General John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs and convener Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators); General Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers); General Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors); Major-Gen. Henry Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters); Major-Gen. Asukwo Henshaw

They condemned calls by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo for the government to negotiate with the Nnamdi Kanu, saying it was surprised that the same man who ordered the destruction of Odi, in Bayelsa state would be talking about negotiation.

They said: “we hereby call on the Nigerian government, international community and the general public to monitor the activities IPOB and her sponsors carefully as we shall resist any attempt to drag the Niger Delta region into the ill advised secession activities of IPOB.

Any member of IPOB that causes mayhem in South East and want to hide in the Niger Delta region shall be severely dealt with. We are surprised that the South East Governors Forum could not call Nnamdi Kanu to order before things got worse as witnessed today.

“We call on the Nigerian government to follow due process and the rule of law in declaring a group a “terrorist organization” as the recent declaration of IPOB by the Nigerian Army as a terrorist organization is contrary to the tenets of our nascent democracy.

“Rather the government should allow them to be on their own, stop funding the South Eastern states with the Niger Delta money, they should be on their own, generate their funds and pay their bills. It is high time Nigeria allow Igbos to be on their own to avoid another civil war.

“We are appealing to the Nigerian government to allow Igbo to go and have their independence without the involvement of other zones since they are tire of being in Nigeria. Nigeria is not ready to go into another civil war. We therefore appeal to the government to allow Igbo to go and be on their own.

All the serving Governors, Senators, House of Reps members, Ministers, Ambassadors from South East extraction should resign immediately and join Nnamdi Kanu to form Biafra government. Let peace reign in Nigeria. It was the agitation of Biafra that brought the last Civil war in Nigeria and we are not prepared for such. Reliable information at our disposal shows that some top businessmen and politicians from South East zone are the sponsors of IPOB.

“We totally condemn the call by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the federal government should dialogue with Nnamdi Kanu. It is totally wrong that the man who destroyed Udi, Bayelsa state in Niger Delta can today talk about dialogue. During his tenure, Asari Dokubo and others were locked up for over one year without trial while he was busy siphoning Niger Delta money. Today he is talking about dialogue.

“We condemn the IPOB attack and destruction of properties in Oyibo in Rivers State. We have warned these people severally that Rivers State and the entire Niger Delta region is not and would not be part of Biafra.
