  • Export Authority chief hails Ayade on Industrial Park

Nigeria Export Processing Zone Authority (NEPZA) Managing Director Emmanuel Jime has described the Ayade Industrial Park in Cross River as the best to be conceived by any government.

Jime spoke in Calabar, Cross River capital, after leading a delegation to inspect the park on Goodluck Jonathan Bypass.

He said: “If you ask me, and without being immodest, I will say that this is the best industrial site that has been conceived by a state government during my time as the managing director of NEPZA. If I have my way,  I would have granted this license that is demanded, unfortunately, it is not entirely in my capacity to do this.”

Jime said only President Muhammadu Buhari could grant the park an EPZ status.

”As far as I can see, all the requirements that need to be in place are already in place and we can tick all the boxes  believing that this industrial park has satisfied all of those boxes, therefore there is no reason on earth why the licence will not be granted.”

He went on: ”I have come, I have seen and I have to say that I am totally blown away and really impressed by what I have seen here.

“The desire and passion that the governor has shown with regards to the industrialisation of this place will fluorish and have the kind of expression that we think it can have.

”I have come here like I say and I have seen tremendous deployment of equipment in terms of science and technology that is available to us. The solar power that is being instituted here is new and clean and I believe that it is innovative as far as Africa is concerned.

“Cross River is the best state as far as the requirements for the establishment of an industrial park is concerned, I don’t see any reason whatsoever why this particular industrial park will not be successful because it meets all the requirements of all other successful industrial parks I have been to.”

  • Chinese, European investors to invest $450m in industrial park

SOME foreigners are planning to invest $450million in the Tomaro Industrial Park in Lagos, The Nation learnt at the weekend.

The investors, mostly from Asia and Europe, are leveraging the trade between Nigeria and some countries.

Sources said the investors were coming from the oil and gas, maritime and allied sectors.

Integrated Oil and Gas Limited Chairman, Capt Emmanuel Ihenacho said the firm was looking for investors that understood the market dynamics and were  ready to achieve some growth.

In a telephone interview, he confirmed the development, saying that a group of investors from the Diaspora had visited the Island to do business.

He said:  ‘’Integrated Oil and Gas Limited is building two tank farms worth several millions of dollars on Lagos Island. These tanks would help in storing petroleum products and further aid distribution of the product in Nigeria.”

Ihenacho said some companies’ executives from China and Europe had been making enquires about how they could be part of the project.

He however said the company has not responded to the enquiries because it wanted to complete the preliminary works, adding that response would be given to those who requested for partnership, and this would be followed by a presentation to highlight areas for investment participation.

He said the company intends to build what he called a ‘sleep way’ for ship building and repairs, stressing that the firms intend to start with the construction of between 6,000 and 10,000 dead weight flat bottom vessels that can sail through some of the shallow waterways, especially in the Escravos and Forcados areas of the Niger Delta where the draft is about 6.5 metres.

He said the entire project will include the 20,000 capacity modular refinery, the ship building/ship repair yard, which also houses a fabrication facility, a helipad for helicopter services, accommodation facilities, strategic storage facility and others.

For the modular refinery, he noted that the $116 million facility, with 15 and 18 months’ completion timeline, would produce diesel, kerosene and Naphtha for a start, but the other component for production of petrol could be added in the future.

  • Ogidigben gas project activated under Buhari – Presidency

Ogidigben gas project activated under Buhari – Presidency

With the renewed interactive engagements of the Federal Government with oil-producing communities in several states in the Niger Delta region, the Presidency on Monday said that there is now a process to put in place a gas industrial park valued at about $20 billion through a Public-Private Partnership model.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on media and publicity, Laolu Akande, said that the project tagged the Gas Revolution Industrial Park, GRIP, Ogidigben, envisaged to be a regional hub for all gas-based industries, will cover 2700 hectares with fertilizer, methanol, petrochemicals, & aluminium plants located in the park that has already been designated as a Tax Free Zone by the Federal Government.

The statement said that the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo spoke during a meeting with international developers and investors of the project at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to him, the Buhari administration is committed to the development of the Niger Delta, and the importance of the project is underlined by the presidential attention it is attracting.

“The presidency is very interested,” he said.

Before going on vacation, President Muhammadu Buhari had mandated the Vice President to embark on visits to oil-producing communities to demonstrate the resolve of the administration to the pursuit of a new vision for the Niger Delta.

It reads “The building of an industrial gas hub in Ogidigben, Delta State was one of the feedbacks that was received during the visit to the state.

“As a follow-up on the Niger Delta trips, Acting President Osinbajo, alongside the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources; Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Group Managing Director; Dr. Maikanti Baru and other top government and NNPC officials met today with a group of international investors and developers put together under a consortium by Dubai-based firm, AGMC.

“The consortium is made up of Fortune 500 companies like the GSE&C of South Korea, the China Development Bank, Power China and several others global operators from Asia and the United Arab Emirates in the Middle-East.

“Under the plan presented today by the consortium to the Acting President, about $20B would be invested to develop the Gas Revolution Industrial Park, and generating 250,000 direct and indirect jobs in the process.

“The industrial park would be a cluster for several industries in one location benefiting from an efficient, cost-competitive and abundant supply of natural gas, proximity to a deep sea port and centralized utilities, & services such as uninterrupted power,  world class telecommunications and processed water.

“The park, originally conceived by NNPC, is located about 60km from Warri, and is about 1km away from the operational base of Chevron Nigeria Limited. It will be connected to over 18 trillion Cubic Feet of gas reserves in fields such as Odidi, Okan, Forcados, located within a 50km radius. It is equally planned that the park will be connected to Nigeria’s most dominant gas pipeline network-ELPS, enabling supply of gas to and from the park.” it added

The Acting President said “we already have a Steering Committee in place, chaired by the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and that shows the level of our commitment. We are unwavering.

“We take the project very seriously and glad to see you are committed and ready to make several other commitments. This is a process that we intend to see happen.”

In his own remarks, Dr. Kachikwu expressed confidence that the GRIP will bring the much needed succor to the people of the Niger Delta, and the oil-producing states.

Speaking earlier the leader of the group of investors and developers, Sheik Mohammed Bayo reiterated the commitment of the consortium, adding also that the project is important to solving the Niger Delta crisis.

  • Edo to collaborate with MAN to build industrial park

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has said the state will establish an industrial park with 24-hour electricity to enhance development in the next 12 monthss.

Obaseki said this when he received the management of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Edo, Delta states branch, who visited him at the Government House in Benin City.

To facilitate this, Obaseki said his administration would work towards creating an enabling environment for investors to do business in the state with ease.

“My goal is to make Edo State the number one state in doing business in the country, and, to achieve this, we have to address some issues like our land administration system, the changes thereafter, the efficiency, law and order, our judiciary or court system. It is a lot of work; it is not cheap to achieve this”.

On how he hoped to create this enabling environment, he noted that Edo State already had the three critical endowments needed to prosper. These endowments, he explained, include human capacity, location, and land.

Expressing confidence in his administration’s ability to facilitate economic growth in the state, he said, “I am very optimistic and thrilled about the opportunity given to me to serve, economic development is going to happen in this state and it will happen soon”.

Speaking, he emphasised his administration’s willingness to collaborate with MAN and work much closer with the association as the collaboration is needed to achieve its vision of developing the state economically.

Meanwhile, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Alofoje Unuigboje noted that the group appreciates the efforts made to stabilise the state’s system.

He said: “The multiplier effect of this singular phenomenal action resonates with the concept of investment-vortex into the state. The developmental architecture of the state could be premised on three pivots, among other-Education/Industry-Related Research, Agriculture and Industrialization/Industrial Parks”.

  • $16bn EPZ: FG’s delay stalling 150,000 jobs in N’Delta – Ayiri

The Federal Government has been advised to use the prevailing ceasefire with Niger Delta militants to restart the $16billion Gas Revolution Industrial Park and Escravos Environs Power Supply Project in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Niger Delta activist and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Chief Ayirimi Emami, made the call in an open letter to President Muhammad Buhari, a copy of which was made available to The Nation.

He said the move would go a long way to bringing permanent peace to the Niger Delta, stressing that delay in restarting the project is hampering 150,000 possible direct and indirect jobs in the region.

He said, “I have never been an advocate of the use violence to attract Federal or state governments’ attention, but that does not mean that the Niger Delta Region has not been suffering neglect, despite the huge resources derived from the area.

“But now that the so-called ceasefire has been declared by the militants and their sponsors, permit me to strongly appeal that your administration immediately initiate steps to commence work at the multibillion dollar,” he added.

Chief Emami said the determination of the present administration to diversify our economy from over-dependence on crude oil and gas would be greatly enhanced by the projects, which he said could mop over 150,000 youths off the streets.

“The ongoing strides being recorded by the military hierarchy (against terrorists and militants) will maximally achieve its set goals if construction work resumes at the Gas Revolution Industrial Park, GRIP, Ogidigben as well as Escravos Environs Power Supply Project.

“All the Federal and Delta State governments need to do is to create the enabling environment, set the right policy direction as well as ensure adequate security and the project with a massive employment capacity from ready-foreign investors will take-off in earnest.

“The over $16 billion GRIP Project billed to accommodate a major Industrial Gas Hub and Petrochemical, Methanol as well as Fertilizer Plant will create over 150,000 direct and indirect jobs at the construction stage and set the tone for the eagerly anticipated diversification of our economy.

“No doubt, the Agricultural, Manufacturing and Solid Minerals sectors will be greatly boosted, Niger Delta militancy will be brought to non-existence and the ongoing effort to take our country out of recession will be realized,” Emami stated.

In the same vein, the Warri chief appealed to the federal government to revisit the Escravos Environs Power Supply Project, stressing that “This mega project is a part of NGC ELPS System-A Network, which passes the host communities in the Escravos Shore, Warri South-West LGA.

“It must be explicitly stated that 30 oil and gas host/ impacted communities will benefit in the project, which is outside the power supply and distribution network of the National Grid. This is not forgetting the communities’ huge agro-based potentials.”

He lamented that the recent attack on oil facilities have plunged riverside communities in the region into perpetual darkness, noting that with the completion of the project, host communities would have more stake and need to protect gas facilities in their communities.
