  • Two labourers remanded in prison over theft of N1.2m cow bones

    An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court  on Wednesday remanded two labourers in Kirikiri Prison  for allegedly stealing cow bones valued N1. 2 million and property of one Adedotun Ayodele.

    The defendants, Abubakar Abdullahi, 28, and Abdullahi Ibrahim, 22, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing before Chief Magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo.

    Prosecuting Police prosecutor, Sergeant Innocent Odugbo  told the court that the defendants committed the offence with others still at large on November 28, 2018 at about 1.30 a. m. at Abattior, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos.

    He said the defendants  brought sacks and loaded the bones into them.

    He said they were caught by a passer-by and were handed over to the police.

    Abdullahi and Ibrahim however pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy and denied the charge of stealing preferred against them by the Police.

    Chief Magistrate Matepo remanded the duo in Kirikiri Prisons, pending sentencing at the next date of adjournment.

    Matepo adjourned the case until December 12, 2018

     

  • Jobless friends appear in court for impersonation

    Two friends, who allegedly impersonated police officers to steal a motorcycle valued N200,000, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused are, Mohammed Usman, 30 and Adamu Mohammed, 30, both of them, who are unemployed, reside at Mushin and Shogunle areas of Lagos State.

    The two men are being tried for conspiracy, impersonation and stealing.

    The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the offences were committed on April 29 at Suberu Close, Shogunle, Lagos.

    Odugbo said that the accused stopped a motorcyclist on his way and showed him fake police identity cards, claiming he was under arrest for taking a one way.

    “The accused told the complainant, Mr Oseni Mohammed, that his motorcycle had been impounded and that he should bring N4,000 to recover it.

    “The complainant begged them to collect N1,000 but they insisted on N4,000 and when they attempted to ride the motorcycle away, the complainant shouted for help,” he said.

    Odugbo added that a passerby helped in apprehending the accused, who were about to run away.

    “The police on patrol met them at the scene and arrested the accused,” he added.

    Odugbo said that the motorcycle is valued N200,000.

    The offences violated Sections 77, 280 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The magistrate, Mrs S. K Matepo, granted the accused to bail of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

    Matepo adjourned the case until May 30 for mention.

  • Unemployed man in court over N102,000 fraud

    A 24-year-old unemployed man, David Owuru who allegedly obtained N102,000 from a lady under the pretext of securing a job for her on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused, who resides at 31, Oyinlola St., Anifowose, Ikeja is tried for obtaining by false pretenses and stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo told the court that offences were committed on September 2016 at Ladipo, Lagos.

    Odugbo said that the accused promised to help the complainant, Mrs Jennifer Nwachukwu, to register in a herbal company to market GLND products.

    “The accused obtained N102, 000 from the complainant and told her that she would be earning some amount from the company every month.

    “Since then, the accused has not been found nor the complainant seen a dime and all efforts to see him failed,’’ he said.

    Odugbo said that the complainant sighted the accused, raised an alarm and with the help of the passerby, he was apprehended and handed over to the police.

    The offences contravened Sections 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Magistrate, Mrs S. K Matepo granted the accused to a bail of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

    Matepo adjourned the case until May 9.

  • Court orders remand of applicant over alleged robbery at gun point

    An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of 30-year-old applicant, Micheal Akanbi, accused of robbing at gun point.

    The Magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo, who ordered remand of Akanbi in Kirikiri Prison, did not take his plea, but ordered that the case file be taken to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

    The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 2.

    The defendant who resides at Ikorodu, Lagos, was docked on charges bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery and unlawful possession of arms.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the offences were committed on Dec. 19, 2017, and Jan. 2 , 2018, at Oshodi and Mile 2 area of Lagos, respectively.

    Odugbo said that the defendant and his accomplice, robbed one Nnamdi Eze of his Toyota car, valued at N1.8 million at gun point.

    “The complainant was on his way home at exactly 8:21 p.m. along Oshodi road when the accused and his other accomplice who were on motorcycle deliberately hit the car from behind.

    “He stopped the engine of his car to see the damage and the next thing was that they pointed a gun at him and snatched his car,’’ Odugbo said.

    Odugbo also alleged that the defendant and his accomplice, robbed a woman, Moninuola Ajayi, who was coming out from a warehouse with bundles of clothes valued at N4 million.

    “The accused way laid the truck, stopped them, went away with the bundles of clothes at gun point,”he said.

    Odugbo said that the cases were reported at the police station and the police placed the suspects on wanted list.

    “The police got an information about the accused where about and he was tracked down and arrested, ” he said.

    The offences contravened Sections 328, 297 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
