    As part of its sustained efforts to digitalise Nigeria’s healthcare ecosystem, Interswitch, one of Africa’s leading integrated payments and digital commerce companies, through its health-tech subsidiary, Interswitch eClat, has launched eClinic, its Electronic Medical Records (EMR) solution at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu (NOHE).

    Commissioned by the Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, the launch marks the fourth deployment of the eClinic solution in federal health institutions, following earlier rollouts in Osun, Ogun, and Edo States.

    This milestone represents another significant step in the Federal Ministry of Health’s drive to modernise healthcare delivery through digital innovation, and builds on Interswitch’s commitment to healthcare innovation, following its recent partnership with the Lagos State Government on the Lagos Smart Health Information Platform (SHIP).

    Built to streamline clinical workflows, enhance care coordination, and improve patient outcomes, Interswitch’s eClinic offers healthcare professionals real-time access to comprehensive and centralised patient records. It also supports a broad range of hospital functions, including patient registration, diagnostics tracking, pharmacy management, and administrative reporting. Designed with Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure realities in mind, the platform operates in both online and offline modes, ensuring continuous uptime and uninterrupted service delivery.

    The Minister of State for Health emphasised that the deployment of the EMR in Enugu aligns with the Ministry’s broader vision of modernising healthcare services and building a healthier Nigeria. He noted that the Federal Government remains committed to fostering meaningful collaborations with the private sector to deliver measurable impact for Nigerians.

    According to him, digital systems like the Interswitch’s eClinic enable federal hospitals to deliver more accurate, efficient, and patient-focused care. By reducing administrative burdens, improving record-keeping, and supplying real-time data for planning and evaluation, these tools are empowering healthcare workers and strengthening service delivery across the board.

    Interswitch to donate IT equipment to schools

    As part of its broader efforts to support the advancement of science, technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in Nigeria, Interswitch has announced plans to donate IT equipment to five tertiary institutions across the country.

    Through this initiative, Interswitch will donate network and computing devices, including routers and switches, to tertiary institutions across the country. These donations will provide students with hands-on experience, while Cisco equips them with the training needed to earn industry-recognised certifications.

    The curriculum, delivered through the Cisco Networking Academy, covers key areas such as cybersecurity, networking, and programming course, empowering students to pursue careers in information and communication technology.

    The beneficiary institutions in this edition of the initiative include Federal University, Owerri (FUTO); University of Benin (UNIBEN); Covenant University, Ota; Yaba College of Technology, Lagos (YABATECH) and the University of Lagos.

    Commenting on the donations, Babafemi Ogungbamila, Executive Vice President, Group Operations and Technology at Interswitch, said that the technology company is committed to improving learning, especially in STEM fields.

     “As a technology company, Interswitch understands the vital role that STEM-focused education plays in the advancement of a country. We also understand that this field of study requires the availability of IT equipment. This informed our decision to donate the devices to academies with the belief that more students will be equipped as they improve their skills in STEM-related fields.”

    He added: “This milestone underscores the strength and consistency of our collaboration with Cisco in driving digital skills development. For the second time, we are coming together with a shared vision—to equip the next generation with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in the STEM field.”

    Abdel Saidu, Solutions Engineering Lead at Cisco Nigeria, said: “Through the breadth of Cisco Networking Academy courses, learning pathways, and network of employers along with our ecosystem of partnerships with governments, academic institutions, and non-profits, we empower the workforce with digital skills to develop sustainable and secure businesses, and more equitable societies. Since the inception of the academy in Nigeria, we have trained over 745,000 learners through 228 institutes with 44 percent of female participation”.

    Interswitch’s donation aligns with its long-standing efforts to encourage more African students to take up STEM courses in school. The company has actively encouraged the uptake of STEM courses by students through its various initiatives such as the Interswitch SPAK National Science Competition which is held annually in Nigeria and East Africa.

    The first edition of the initiative saw Interswitch donate IT equipment to ten Nigerian institutions including Igbinedion University, Benin City, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife: University of Maiduguri and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka among others.

    Interswitch, one of Africa’s leading integrated payments and digital commerce companies, has announced the winners of the InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition, its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

    Now in its 6th year, InterswitchSPAK was introduced to celebrate exceptional young talent as part of Interswitch’s commitment to promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in Africa.

    Drawing participation from over 16,000 students across Nigeria, the competition set the stage to recognize and celebrate the country’s brightest young minds and their depth of knowledge in STEM subjects.

    The winners emerged through their exceptional display of knowledge and understanding in STEM subjects, highlighting Interswitch’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s future leaders and innovators.

    Following an initial National Qualifying Examination and a 13-week televised competition, three outstanding students emerged as this year’s top winners, each demonstrating remarkable scientific proficiency and critical thinking. The winner, Henry Ndudu Ekong from Pegasus School, Akwa Ibom state, received a N15 million tertiary scholarship spread over five years, a laptop, and monthly stipends; the first runner-up, Eric Denyefa Omare from St. Gregory’s College in Lagos was awarded a N10 million scholarship spread over three years and a laptop, while David Umeojiaka from Graceland International School, Rivers emerged as the second runner-up securing a N5 million scholarship for one year and a laptop.

    Furthermore, cash prizes were awarded to the fourth to ninth-place winners. The top 18 semi-finalists and the top 27 contributing teachers also received cash prizes. In addition, the top 200 preliminary qualifiers received JAMB e-PINS to register for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations free of charge.

    Commenting on the competition, Cherry Eromosele, Executive Vice President, Group Marketing and Communications at Interswitch Group, emphasized the critical role of STEM education in Africa’s growth and Interswitch’s dedication to cultivating young talent and driving meaningful innovation.

    The recently concluded intensive 8-week online programme, trained 100 university students, emerging innovators, and tech enthusiasts.     Speaking at the Nigerian Fintech Week, held at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, where Interswitch was a sponsor, Managing Director, Payment Processing and Switching (Interswitch Purepay), Akeem Lawal, emphasised the importance of building robust infrastructure that enable African businesses to transact seamlessly across the continent.

    Lagos State government has identified the transformative potential of data-driven healthcare solutions. It stated that the Lagos State Health Information Platform (Lagos SHIP) initiative leveraged on Interswitch’s technology infrastructure will create enhanced experiences for all healthcare stakeholders across the state.

    Commissioner for Health, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Prof. Akinola Abayomi, who spoke during a stakeholders’ engagement forum organized Interswitch Group and the Lagos State government to mark the milestone in the journey towards providing unrestricted healthcare access for state’s residents, said the place of accurate data can no longer be over emphasized in the state.

    Lagos SHIP is a digital healthcare platform designed to boost healthcare services by leveraging Interswitch’s robust technology infrastructure. The platform aims to create a comprehensive health information system that bridges the gap between patients and healthcare providers, offering a seamless and efficient way to access a wide range of healthcare services.
