  • South-south pensioners laud Obaseki’s uninterrupted pension payment

    Against the backdrop of issues of unpredictable pension payment regime and unpaid pensions plaguing different states in the country, the South-South Zone of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) has hailed the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in Edo State for a regime of uninterrupted pension payment in the state.

    Chairman, South-South Zone of the NUP, Comrade Pullen Noruwa, said this at the South-South Zonal Forum of the NUP, held in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

    Noruwa lauded Governor Obaseki for his commitment to the welfare of pensioners, whose monthly pension have been uninterrupted in the state, since he assumed office.

    Comrade Noruwa, who is also the Chairman of Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) Edo State Chapter, appealed to the state government to reinstate the deduction of one per cent (1%) union dues amongst other requests.

    Edo State Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Isaac Ehiozuwa, said Governor Obaseki’s passion to keep retirees happy has paved way for the state to develop a phased payment plan in settling pension arrears accumulated from as far back as 1999.

    Mr. Ehiozuwa said this innovative plan by the Edo State Government has resulted in the payment of arrears of pensions without hindrance, stressing that the days of waiting on rolls to get paid are over.

    Noting that the state government has approved the automatic migration to the pension system for retired civil servants, he said, “I appeal to civil servants who are about to retire to key into the laid down procedure to avoid a situation where pensioners will have to suffer avoidable hardship after disengagement from service.”

    This strategy, he said, would put an end to protests by pensioners and tackle the non-payment of pension arrears. He advised aggrieved members of the NUP to channel their grievances through the duly recognized NUP body led by Comrade Noruwa for redress.

  • Edo HoS warns against indecent dressing, merchandising in govt offices

    Head of Service in Edo State, Mr. Isaac Ehiozuwa, has warned against indecent dressing and merchandising among civil servants.

    Ehiozuwa gave the warning during a meeting with Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) at Government House, in Benin City, the state capital.

    The new HoS, further tasked Directors of Administration and Supplies in the respective MDAs to support their Permanent Secretaries in ensuring issues relating to indiscipline; lateness to work, insubordination, closure before time, non-challant attitude to work, indecent dressing and merchandising in government offices, are taken seriously.

    He decried how work ethics and attitude which were religiously observed in the past in the civil service have been eroded, urging Permanent Secretaries and Directors to ensure that rules and regulations of the Civil Service are strictly adhered to by civil servants.

    Ehiozuwa said that the Civil Service is reputed for transparency, discipline honesty, efficiency, proficiency and accountability.

    At a separate meeting with members of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, led by the Chairman, Comrade Pullen Noruwa, Ehiozuwa expressed his appreciation to members of the union for their co-operation with the state government.

    He assured that the Obaseki led-administration will not fail in its responsibility towards ensuring prompt attention is given to pension matters.

    He sued for the co-operation and support of the pensioners, in reforming the State Civil Service, adding, “We will do our best to ensure that pensioners in the state are happy.

    Earlier, the Chairman of the Union, Comarde Pullen Noruwa, congratulated Ehiozuwa on his appointment as HoS, which he described as well-deserved.

  • Edo HoS tasks perm secs. on cooperation, excellence

    The new Edo State Head of Service, Mr. Isaac Ehiozuwa, has urged Permanent Secretaries in the state on cooperation and commitment to best practice to actualize the goal of reforming the state civil service.

    He charged them to submit briefs on the activities of their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies, (MDAs) as well as the parastatals under their supervision to his office on or before Friday, November 30, 2018, to enable him get acquainted with the happenings in the MDAs.

    Ehiozuwa who gave the directive during his first official meeting with Permanent Secretaries in his office at Government House, in Benin City, explained that the expected briefs should contain staff appointments, promotions, distribution and general staff matters as well as the challenges of the MDAs.

    He sued for their co-operation and support to enable him implement the desired reforms in the state civil service, noting that, his vision for Edo Civil Service is driven by excellence, proficiency and efficiency in service delivery by all civil servants. He enjoined them to join hands with him to make it work.

    Ehiozuwa urged the permanent secretaries to freely suggest innovative ideas that would contribute to reforming and moving of the Edo Civil Service to the desired heights.

    He expressed gratitude to Governor Godwim Obaseki for the confidence reposed in him to serve as Head of Service in the state.

    Responding on behalf of the Permanent Secretaries, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Sam Oko-Ose, congratulated Ehiozuwa on his appointment as the new Head of Service.

    He assured the HoS of their co-operation and support to bring Edo Civil Service to an enviable height, and promised that the permanent secretaries would summit their briefs as requested.

     

  • Obaseki tasks new Head of Service to fast-track ongoing reforms

    The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has charged the new Head of Service (HoS), Mr Isaac Ehiozuwa, to urgently put to use, his wealth of experience, in fast-tracking the ongoing reforms of the state’s civil service in line with the vision of his administration.

    Obaseki gave the charge on Monday, at the Government House in Benin City, the state capital, during the swearing in ceremony of the new HoS.

    “We have resolved to give world-class trainings to our civil servants and you will help reshape the civil service to ensure that everybody that works for the state government must be Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-compliant.

    “We know you are hardworking and have the capacity to bring the desired reform in the sector,” the governor said.

    The governor explained that his administration’s vision is to reform all aspects of the state’s civil and public service for optimal performance.

    He maintained that work has started on the reform of the physical environment with the ongoing revamp of the buildings in the Secretariat Complex, and charged the new HoS to commence work with the reform of the people in the service.

    “One of the key responsibilities of the new HoS would be to reform the people in the service” he added, and urged Mr. Ehiozuwa to build on the legacies of his predecessors.

    In his remark, the new HoS expressed gratitude to the governor for the confidence reposed in him and described his appointment as a call to service.

    He assured that he would live up to the estimation of the state government and people of the state, adding “I will do my duties with diligence and will put in my best in the interest of the state.

    Ehiozuwa said his vision for the service will be driven by “excellence and proficiency in service delivery by all civil servants” and promised to leverage on the experiences of his predecessors.

    The new Head of Service takes over from Mrs Gladys Idahor who retired from service earlier in November.
