A good governance advocate and peacekeeping enthusiast, Israel Arogbonlo, has called for the formation of a coalition of United Nigerians rather than the continued reliance on political alliances driven by self-interest.
Arogbonlo argued that Nigeria’s complex political and social realities have rendered traditional political coalitions ineffective, noting that the country stands at a critical crossroads.
According to him, the old model — dominated by politicians with narrow, often selfish interests — is no longer fit for purpose.
“Political coalitions in Nigeria have too often been about grabbing power, not about solving real problems,” he said. “These alliances frequently disintegrate when personal or group interests are threatened, leaving the people with broken promises and stalled progress.”

He stressed that such coalitions are typically built on ethnic, religious, or regional lines, thereby deepening the divisions in an already fragmented society. What the country needs now, he asserted, is a grassroots movement — a coalition of ordinary Nigerians united by a common vision for a better nation.
“A coalition of United Nigerians would bring together citizens from every background who are committed to national progress, not personal gain. It would foster unity, break down the barriers of division, and amplify the voice of the people in shaping the nation’s future,” Arogbonlo added.
He further stated that such a movement would encourage civic participation, empower individuals to take ownership of Nigeria’s development, and promote solutions to shared challenges such as poverty, inequality, and insecurity.
“The time is now. Nigerians must rise beyond political differences and unite around a shared purpose — building a nation where everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” he said.
Arogbonlo concluded by urging citizens to embrace this new coalition of unity and purpose, insisting that national transformation will not come from the political elite but from a united citizenry committed to justice, progress, and prosperity.
