  • Police arraign 57-year-old for circulating nude pictures of girlfriend

    The police on Friday arraigned a 57-year-old man, Samuel Ogundele in an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly taking and circulating nude pictures of  his female friend.

    Ogundele of Owode Estate Phase II, Apata , Ibadan , is charged with unlawful capturing and circulation of nude pictures.

    The Police Prosecutor, ASP Adewale Amos told the court that Ogundele in February, allegedly  circulated nude pictures of one Abigail Adebayo, 37, on his Samsung cell phone.

    Amos said that Ade Abiodun Oguntowo , fiance to Abigael  reported the matter at the police station.

    He alleged that Ogundele allegedly sent the picture via his Whatsapp social network platform, knowing same to be obscene articles which is capable of corrupting anyone who sees them.

    The prosecution said the offence contravened the provisions of  Section 233c and punishable under Section 233D of the Criminal Code cap 38,of the Oyo state 2000.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Chief Magistrate E.A. Idowu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Idowu ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed with proof in like sum, adjourned the case till April 24, for mention.

    Farmer docked for stealing transformer cable

    A 22-year-old farmer, Rasheed Falere, was on Thursday brought before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing a transformer cable worth N1m.

    Falere, of the Local Authority School area, New Eruwa, Eruwa town is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

    The Prosecutor, ASP Sunday Ogunremi, told the court that Falere allegedly conspired with others now at large to commit the offences.

    Ogunremi said Falere was alleged to have stolen the transformer cable, valued at N1,000,000 property of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.

    He said the offence was committed on Nov.17, at about 4:30 a.m. at opposite motor park, Maya, via Lanlate.

    Ogunremi said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him in court.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulateef Adebisi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
    Adebisi, thereafter, adjourned the case till Jan. 31, and ordered that the case should be transferred to Lanlate.

    Ibadan-based broadcaster, four others arraigned over alleged murder

    An Iyaganku Chief  Magistrates’ Court  in Ibadan on Tuesday remanded an ace broadcaster  in Ibadan, Oriyomi Hamzat , 37, and four others in Agodi prison for alleged murder.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports  that  Hamzat,  Idowu Ibrahim ,27;  Mohammed Bashir, 31;  Taiwo Olaronke ,23;  and Yusuf Toheeb Ajisafe, 23, were arraigned  on a two- count charge of conspiracy and murder.

    The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Fatola,  told the court that  the accused  all conspired to commit the offences.

    He alleged that  the accused  unlawfully caused the death of  a  17-year-old simply identified as Peter by inflicting an injury on his head and body.

    The prosecutor said Peter, who had been an inmate in a  home set up by the  “Make a Future Alive Initiative”  owned by Hamzat,  was found dead in the facility.

    Fatola said the alleged offences were  committed on July 21  at about 4am at  the facility located at  Oremeji Agugu in  Ibadan.

    He said the offences  contravened  Sections  324 and 316 and were punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol .II,  Laws of Oyo State,  2000.

    The court, however, did not take the plea of the accused and  the Chief  Magistrate, Mr Abdulateef Adebisi,  remanded the accused  in Agodi prison.

    He also  ordered  the duplication of the case file  to enable a copy to be sent to  the Directorate of Public Prosecution  for legal advice.

    Adebisi adjourned the case till Sept. 5 for mention

    Court remands three in prison for murder, armed robbery

    Three men; Tunde Jimoh, 37, Gbenga Babalade , 40, and Olatunji Hammed were on Wednesday  remanded at Agodi Prison by an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for alleged murder of Akinteye Oyeyemi for money ritual.

    They were also alleged to have been involved in robbing the deceased of N100,000 cash.

    The chief magistrate, Mrs Abiona Richard, in her ruling said the accused should be remanded in Agodi Prison pending the outcome of the case file at the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).

    The pleas by Jimoh of Yide Area, Babalade of Ijagbo Village, and Hammed, an Alfa from Mascut Tofans Area, Ijagbo, all in Offa in Kwara State, were not taken by the court.

    The chief magistrate adjourned the case until May 8, for mention.

    The trio, were in court on a five-count charge of conspiracy, murder, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a gun and concealing of information.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Ogunremi, told the court that Jimoh and Babalade allegedly conspired to commit felony to wit murder.

    “Between 3 p.m. of Feb. 24, and 1a.m. of Feb.25, between Atiba-Oyo Area in Oyo state and Igbo-Nla Area of Kwara , they allegedly killed one Akinteye Oyeyemi.

    “The duo allegedly killed Akinteye with the intent to use his heart for money ritual, while armed with single barrel cut-to-size gun, a cutlass and a knife, and also robbed him of N100, 000 cash they found on him.

    `Jimoh and Babalade on March14 were alleged to have unlawfully had in their possession one cut-to-size gun with two life cartridges.

    “The third accused person, Olatunji was alleged to have assisted Jimoh and Babalade, whom to his knowledge have committed a criminal offence of murder, intentionally concealed the information.

    “Olatunji was alleged to have failed to report the offence to the police thereby becoming accessory to the fact of murder,’’ Ogunremi said.

    He said that the crime was reported to the police by the deceased wife, Mrs Bukola Akinteye of Oyo town, after she could not locate her husband’s movement again through the phone.

    Ogunremi said the offence contravened Sections 319, 322 and 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

    The offence also contravened Sections 1 (2) (a) & (b) and 3 (1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

    Court remands pastor for alleged rape of friend’s daughter

    An Iyaganku Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ibadan has remanded a 62-year-old pastor, Isaiah Akinojo, in prison custody for alleged raping his friends daughter.

    The Chief Magistrate, Alhaja Modinat Akanni, remanded the accused at Agodi prison pending the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

    The plea of the accused, arraigned on a one-count charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor, was not taken.

    Akinojo, according to the charge, is a pastor at Light of life Ministry International Church, Egbeda, Ibadan.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Sikiru Ibrahim, said the offence was committed on May 10 at about 7 p.m. at church premises.

    Ibrahim said “the offence took place inside the church while Akinojo sent the girl’s junior brother on errand to go and buy something.”

    He said that the victim usually return to the church every day after school before their father would take them home in the evening.

    Ibrahim said the offence contravened Section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

    The case was adjourned till July 15, for mention.
