    JABU student bags scholarship up till PhD level

    A 400-Level student of the Department of Microbiology of Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Excel Oluwajomiloju Jeff-Agboola has bagged a scholarship to the postdoctoral level after emerging winner of Queen of Aso Agriculture pageant competition.

    Speaking to the Public Relations Unit of the University in a telephone interview, Excel revealed that JABU contributed to her emergence as Queen of the competition.

    In her words: “JABU contributed to my success because I was able to sustain my spiritual and social life. I am a child of God and the JABU environment assisted me in being prayerful and provided opportunities to engage myself in various activities which have improved my competency considerably.”

    Speaking on her future engagements after graduation from the institution, the newly crowned Queen of Aso Agriculture stated that she intends to follow through with her postdoctoral programme immediately after the compulsory one year National Youth Service programme to her motherland.

    Excel who revealed that she had been in search of a contestable pageantry void of unnecessary display of nudity stated that intending ladies interested in competing at pageantries should endeavour to follow the tenets of godly living through set goals for achievement.

    She further advised parents to encourage their children in the showcase of their talents for proper upbringing.

    “My father is a General Overseer of a Church and my Mother, a Pastor and an Academic; they are my role models,” she added.

    The Centre for Anti-Corruption Research and Studies Nigeria under the auspices of Anti-Corruption Awareness Organisation of Nigeria, Ondo state chapter has partnered with Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU) as part of efforts to fight corruption in Nigeria.

    The SPN Dr. Caxton Bode Olawoye emphasized that JABU has shown outstanding qualities in terms of policies on University education for academic excellence.

    Olawoye revealed that the partnership with the University will involve training; a short and long-term for traditional rulers, artisans, non-governmental organisations among several others. The purpose of these, Olawoye said is to help bring corruption to the lowest ebb in the country.

    Appreciating the gesture from ACAON, Professor Sola Fajana, the Vice-Chancellor of the University stated that the partnership is coming at a time wherein corruption needs to be crippled for the furtherance of economic growth and stability in the country.

    Fajana stated that the partnership with the anti-corruption agency is a call for private varsities to pull in their weight to ensure the eradication of corruption via policy making and enactments in various varsities.

    Dr. Afinotan, Acting Dean, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, a political scientist and observer of Nigerian and International politics lauded the initiative of the anti-corruption organization. Afinotan stated that grabbing the monster corruption from the primordial base is a good niche, ensuring that relevant government agencies are carried along in the restructuring process which is a major need.

    The Registrar of the University, Barrister Wale Aderibigbe stated that if for nothing, Nigerians will laud the statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari for his statement; “if Nigerian will not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria”. Aderibigbe stated that the ancient practices of corruption become an endemic approach in the country and as such should be eradicated as soon as possible.

    Adding glamour to the event, the Centre for Anti-Corruption Research and Studies Nigeria awarded Professor Sola Fajana with an integrity award for a track record of consistency in integrity.

    • As N2.5billion Endowment Fund preparation takes a quantum leap

    Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Osun State has installed the paramount ruler of the Yoruba race, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife as her Grand Patron for the N2.5billion endowment fund raising programme.

    Speaking in a closed door meeting at the palace of His Imperial Majesty, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Chief Executive Officer, Mutual Benefits Life Assurance Ltd and Chairman, JABU Endowment Committee presented the Ooni of Ife with the letter from the University.

    Dr Ogunbiyi disclosed that JABU is set to stir a radical change in the education sector of the country via the endowment fund for the University. Ogunbiyi revealed that the essence of the fund-raiser is to ensure that all the necessities needed to groom students in JABU is adequately installed with the necessitated manpower in place.

    The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sola Fajana and Registrar, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Barrister Wale Aderibigbe unanimously showered His Imperial Majesty with appreciation for not only accepting the honorary degree bestowed upon him; but also for adding glamour to the 7th Convocation ceremonies of the University with his presence.

    Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife, appreciated the JABU delegation for deeming him worthy for the position; adding that he will do all he can to see the vision for the endowment become a reality.

    Recounting history, the Ooni of Ife revealed that his predecessor, Oba Sijuade Olubuse II had the best interests of JABU at heart; a mutual interest and realignment of values between the past and the present.

    He however gave kudos to the Dr. Ojerinde, a front-liner in ensuring that education in Nigeria is at its peak in Nigeria, for the role he played, and is currently playing in JABU and in Ife. He prayed the former Director General of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the former Registrar of the National Examination Council as well as West African Examination Board Chairman not to relent in the disposition of his duties.

    Present on the JABU Delegation were; Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Professor Anthony Imevbore, members of JABU Endowment Committee, Registrar and Vice Chancellor, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Osun State.

  • 100 youths get JABU enterpreneurship training

    Over 100 youths nationwide are undergoing entrepreneurial skills acquisition training at Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji- Arakeji, Osun State.

    Those who excel after the exercise will get start-up capital, courtesy of the Christ Apostolic Church (Worldwide), in collaboration with the Bank of Industry (BoI).

    The trainees were selected after going through spiritual and capability screening, CAC Director of missions, Pastor Caxton Fasuyi said.

    Fasuyi said the empowerment programme which is expected to be continuous after the completion of the first batch, will no doubt help eradicate poverty in the church.

    He added that CAC Missions have invested over N10 million on putting together facilities at the training, adding that more would be spent, as every aspect of the exercise is expected to be provided free including feeding and monthly stipends, throughout the duration of the programme.

    Fasuyi also congratulated participants who scaled through the rigorous screening exercise to be among the first batch of the laudable project.

    Nonetheless, he warned them to adhere to the rules and regulations of JABU, saying the varsity would not condone indiscipline.

    The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Sola Fajana, urged participants to take their training serious as the graduation would confer on them the studentship of JABU.

    Its Registrar, Pastor Wale Aderibigbe, Acting Bursar, Mr. Oladiran Ajayi, Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Solomon Owolabi and the Senior Manager, the Centre for Entrepreneurship Mr. Ade Oladele  also addressed participants.

    THE Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) has honoured the Vice-Chancellor Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Arakeji Ikeji, Osun State, Prof. Sola Fajana.

    Fajana was honored with NIM fellowship alongside other notable Nigerians such as Chief of Naval Staff Vice- Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas; and Director, Human Resources Management Department, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Alhaji Aminu Anans.

    The honor was conferred on them  at NIM’s 2016 Awards, Fellows and Spouse’s Day luncheon organised by the institute in Lagos.

    The event tagged ‘Re-branding the Nigerian professional from Goodness to Greatness’ was in recognition of the crucial roles that the inductees played as prime drivers of management values, standards and professionalism in Nigeria.

    Speaking at the event, the President and Chairman of Council, Prof. Munzali Jibril, enjoined the recipients to be good ambassadors of the institute.

    They were also reminded that NIM status is sacred and holds no compromise.

    Fajana, a top notch human resource and management expert cum consultant, was recognised for his wealth of experience, achievements and service to the country, the institute, and the academic environment.

    Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Fajana described the award as a call to higher service to NIM, management profession, and the nation as a whole.

    Former Commander of Nigeria Army Education Corps, Major General Dapo Adebayo has been honoured with a doctorate degree in entrepreneurship by the Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji-Arakeji in Osun State.

    The award was presented at the university’s sixth convocation ceremony.

    The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sola Fajana, said: “Honour must be given to anyone who deserves it. As a financier of the university you have contributed to its growth.

    “We thank you for your moral and financial support, which has taken the university to where it is today.”

    Gen Adebayo said: “I thank the university for this honour as the only awardee on the occasion. I promise to continue to promote entrepreneurship.

    “I also promise to always attend to challenges facing the institution anytime I’m called upon to do so.”

  • JABU on track, says VC

    The Vice Chancellor, Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Prof Sola Fajana, has said the institution would continue to produce graduates with a strong sense of moral uprightness for national development.

    Fajana, who spoke at the 5th convocation of the university, said the institution has pursued the mission  by continuously improving teaching and learning, strengthening its manpower, and creating an enabling environment for learning and holistic development.

    He also said all academic programmes offered by the university are accredited, while necessary arrangements were being made for those due for accreditation.

    “The University has continued to advance in all frontiers of learning.  The visit of the National University Commission (NUC) Resource Verification Team to the proposed Law, Public Administration and International Relations Programmes last February, led to the approval of Law Programme for the university,” he said.

    Fajana enthused that in the coming years, as fallouts of collaborations and partnerships with foreign institutions, JABU will be participating in accreditations offered by accrediting bodies outside Nigeria to improve its visibility.

    He charged the 1,044 graduands to create positive things and be good ambassadors of the university.

    Among the 19 students that bagged first class honours at the convocation, Emmanuel Adebisi of the Computer Science Department emerged the best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.85.

    Adebisi attributed his success to God and self-determination.

    Meanwhile, 279 students graduated with Second Class upper; 614, Second Class lower; while 126 had third class. Others bagged higher degrees – four MBA and two Post-Graduate Diplomas. In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Prof Anthony Imevbore, said JABU is poised to prepare and equip a vanguard of qualified human resources, who will participate in uplifting the nation’s economy.

    He said the university would soon establish a Medical School for the production of various cadres of health workers.

    Highlight of the convocation ceremony was the conferment of the  Doctor of Enterpreneurship (honoris causa) on Dr Goodie Ibru, for his contribution towards the development of humanity, business world and the society.

    With his size and age, Afariogun Precious Opeyemi, an SS3 pupil of Iganmode Grammar School, Ota in Ogun State, did not seem to stand a chance to win the national quiz competition for secondary school pupils organised by Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji-Arakej in Osun State, last week.

    However, the ‘small but mighty’ Opeyemi won with style – after giving Agwamba Chibuikem Maxwell of straitway College, Ogun State a hard time.

    The 14-year-old won the heart of the audience from the first round of the last stage of the competition and was crowned, amidst cheers, after spelling correctly the winning word ‘Abacus’.

    The contestants were drilled in English Language, Mathematics and Current Affairs during the two-day competition held last Monday and Tuesday.

    Opeyemi won N200,000 worth of books, cash, desktop computer and a full scholarship to study any four-year course of his choice in JABU. Second and third placed winners, Agwamba Chibuikem and Alaani Olajumoke got half and quarter scholarships with cash and books worth hundreds of thousands of naira.

    The top 10 contestants also got prizes while all the 50 contestants were awarded certificates of participation and consolation prizes.

    Declaring the competition open, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Sola Fajana, said JABU places premium children and education because of the important roles they play in a society.

    Fajana praised the organising committee of the competition for a job well-done.

    On his part the Registrar, Mr Wale Aderibigbe, thanked Friesland Foods Limited and the Book Company for sponsoring the programme.

    The Acting Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mr. Sam Awoniyi and the Secretary, Mr. Wale Olaosebikan assured participants that the next edition of the quiz competition would be grander.

    The judges, Dr. K.I.T. Eniola, Dr. Fatusin, Mrs. Otemuyiwa and Mimi Oka ensured that a high standard was set for the competition.

    The Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji-Arakeji in Osun State will test the knowledge of secondary school pupils in English language, mathematics and current affairs tomorrow and Saturday.

    Winners of the maiden editionof the national quiz competition will get scholarship into the institution.

    Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Sola Fajana, said that the competition provides a platform for JABU to contribute to the development of the education sector and fulfill the purpose for which the institution was established, which is to touch the lives of Nigerians in positive ways.

    Fajana urged participants to be diligent, transparent and honest as the competition promises to ensure high standard and all fairness.

    Prizes to be won include scholarship to study in four to five-year degree programmes at JABU, cash prizes and books worth N200,000.

    THE carol service organised by the Chaplaincy of the Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji-Arakeji in Osun State last week was not without the excitement the yearly event is known for.

    The Carol service, which is used to usher in the festive season in JABU, featured renditions by all the choral units of the chapel to the delight of the university community.

    Speaking at the service, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Sola Fajana urged the congregation to open their hearts and welcome the unending joy of the Lord. He gave vivid exposition of Christmas in the past, present and future.

    An Assistant of the Chaplain of the university, Pastor D.O. Alabi led prayers to the Almighty for guidance and wisdom for the entire JABU community. He charged both workers and students to carryout their duties as expected, especially in the coming year.
