The filmmaker, who turned 40 this year, shared the news on social media, expressing her gratitude to God for guiding her through the journey to motherhood.

Osiberu, founder of Greoh Studios, has made significant contributions to Nollywood, directing and producing notable films and TV projects, including Isoken, Brotherhood, and Gangs of Lagos.

According to Osiberu, her experience of becoming a mother has been life-changing, and she has expressed her thankfulness for the mercy and love she received throughout the process.

The filmmaker prayed for her child’s future, asking God to protect, guide, and grant Moraraoluwa favour and peace.

May the Lord grant you favour and give you peace. May the Lord be happy with you and may you rest in His love. He will sing and be joyful about you.”

Akpotha, Bankole are not ‘underrated’ – Jade Osiberu

Filmmaker Jade Osiberu has defended Nollywood actresses Chioma Akpotha and Kehinde Bankole, following claims by some fans that they are ‘underrated.’

Osiberu, who has collaborated with both actresses on multiple projects, noted that they are highly respected and sought after within the industry.

In a series of tweets, she challenged the notion of being “underrated,” questioning whether it is based on respect, fame, or social media presence. She praised their remarkable filmographies, which include some of Nollywood’s highest-grossing movies in recent years.

Osiberu also highlighted the critical acclaim both actresses have received for their performances. She cited Akpotha’s portrayal of Queen Amaka in Netflix’s ‘seven doors’ and Bankole’s lead role in ‘Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti as evidence of their exceptional talent and commitment to their craft.

Her remarks have sparked conversations about the criteria for recognition in the film industry.

Jade Osiberu tweeted: “I saw a tweet claiming Chioma Akpota is underrated, and I remember a similar tweet last year about Kehinde Bankole. I guess my question is ‘underrated to whom?’ It can’t be the industry because we very highly rate both these women. And what does being rated mean? I don’t think it means respect cos almost every time they’re both in a project, their performances are widely praised.

“Both have been in some of the biggest and or highest-grossing Nollywood films in recent years. So what exactly does it take to be rated to the general audience? Notoriety? Constant social media buzz/scandals? Being social media viral sensations?”

Jade Osiberu in war of words with online trolls

On the eve of Nigeria’s 2024 Independence Day celebration, Nigerian writer and producer, Jade Osiberu found herself in the cobweb of internet mobs who bullied and insulted her for expressing a view.

The backlash came after the filmmaker expressed her views on the state of the economy and challenges facing the country.

“My to do list is mad long but what have I been doing all day? Social media dopamine scrolling. In T-pain’s economy? Wonderful,” Osiberu shared on X.

While her remarks did not target any individual directly, perceived supporters of a politician unleashed a barrage of insults and criticisms on Osiberu.

“Tpain had finally dug you inside hardship and poverty within one year. Even money to save, you no see,” one of the online trolls wrote.

Another troll, Ikenna Akaniru wrote, “Looking at her, one will notice that she was not speaking with a deep sense of reasonable thoughts out of her mind but rather being overshadowed by heavy hair attachment  on her head which controls her thoughts.”

Within hours, Osiberu’s social media account elicited a firestorm of negative reactions, as the mob lambasted and mocked her.

In response to the attack, the 39-year-old followed up with a series of tweets, defending her right to voice her opinions.

“You guys have been going wild since yesterday on this one tweet,” she stated. “I made a whole film critiquing APC’s political ideology and structure for which I was targeted and sued to court! I did not believe in Peter Obi either, which is my right and doesn’t make me a tribal bigot.”

Continuing, the producer of ‘Gangs of Lagos’ wrote, “You’re actually the bigot here. You’re assuming every non-Igbo person who hasn’t supported Peter Obi has done so because of the tribe. You idiots are intentionally being divisive and you do not love this country. Actually, you’re quite happy to see it burn down. May you fail.”

As the conversation got intense, the filmmaker refused to be silenced by the wave of negativity. However, she called for a more civic approach to political discussions rather than blindly following partisan rhetoric.

“Part of intellectual discourse is the maturity to understand people’s freedom to disagree with you and humility to consider you may not actually be right.  That’s not a concept you lot understand. If one doesn’t agree then it’s name-calling and insults? What’s intelligent about that? ” she said.
