    Jagun Jagun, The Weekend win big at 20th edition of AMAA

    Femi Adebayo’s Jagun Jagun and Daniel Oriahi’s The Weekend are some of the films that won at least three awards at the 20th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

    Jagun Jagun scooped two awards in achievement in visual effect and achievement in make-up categories while Femi Adebayo’s role in the same film won him the best actor in a supporting role category.

    In the same vein, Oriahi’s The Weekend won four awards in categories, including Best Film, NFVCB award for Best Nigerian Film, Achievement in screenplay, and achievement in cinematography.

    The 20th edition of the continental film awards, Africa Movie Academy Awards, AMAA, held to a fully packed venue on Saturday.

    The board of the Africa Film Academy (AFA), the organisers of AMAA, held the 2024 edition amid pomp and glee at the Balmoral Convention Centre at Ikeja, GRA.

    The five-hour-long ceremony was co-produced by Kingsley James, and Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe in Lagos.

    With over 700 guests from various parts of Africa, 26 awards were won by African film practitioners that included actors, cinematographers, producers, costumiers, set designers and more.

    Femi Adebayo’s ‘Jagun Jagun’ wins three awards at AMAA awards

    Filmmaker and actor Femi Adebayo’s film “Jagun Jagun” has clinched three awards at the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards.

    The film won Best Male Actor in Supporting Role, Achievement in Visual Effects, and Achievement in Makeup.

    This comes after being nominated in seven categories.

    “Jagun Jagun” tells the captivating story of Ogundiji, a feared warrior, and his struggle for power and justice against a young warrior named Gbotija.

    The film also won Best Indigenous Language Movie (West Africa) and Best Costume Design at the 2024 African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

    Femi Adebayo wrote: “Thrilled to announce JAGUN JAGUN
    (The WARRIOR) – a Netflix Original Movie, won three awards at the 2024 AMAA AWARDS, in the following categories:

    “Best Male Actor in A Supporting Role, Achievement in Makeup, Achievement in Visual Effects.

    Other big winners at the AMAA awards include Nigeria’s “The Weekend” by Daniel Oriahi, which snagged four awards, and South Africa’s “The Queenstown Kings” by Jahmil X.T. Qubeka, which also took home four awards.

    It’s worth noting that “Jagun Jagun” has been a global sensation, trending in the UK and 17 other countries, with over 2.1 million views in its first three days on Netflix.

    Actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo is overjoyed as his 2023 movie “Jagun Jagun,” secured seven nominations at the prestigious 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

    Femi shared the exciting news, revealing the nominated categories.

    He wrote: “Hey Guys, we’ve done it again!!! Delighted to announce JAGUN JAGUN clinched seven nominations at the 2024 AMAA AWARDS nominee announcement yesterday.

    “Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

    Femi Adebayo’s film “Jagun Jagun” emerged victorious in the Best Indigenous Language Movie category at the prestigious 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

    The awards ceremony, which took place at the prestigious Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos, Nigeria, celebrated outstanding achievements in the African film and television industry.

    In his acceptance speech, Femi Adebayo expressed gratitude to AMVCA for the recognition.

    Veteran actress, Fathia Balogun shared the many goodness Femi Adebayo’s blockbuster movie, ‘Jagun Jagun’ has unlocked in her life.

    During an outdoor gathering that featured the presence of the movie maker, Adebayo, and others, the thespian shared her thoughts.

    In the conversation, the actress revealed how she regained her enthusiasm after her involvement in the widely-discussed epic movie.

    Balogun mentioned that being a part of the movie had significant effects on her, particularly in terms of restoring her fame.

    Despite her extensive filmography, the 54-year-old actress acknowledged that her popularity had diminished over time.

    However, her portrayal of the character Erinfunto, the wife of Adebayo’s role as the warrior ‘Ogundiji’ in the movie, seemed to have rejuvenated her career.
