LGs have no excuse not to deliver, says Lagos guber aspirant

A 2027 Lagos state APC governorship aspirant, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor), has said that local governments now have no excuse not to perform following improved funding by President Bola Tinubu.

Adediran, the Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, stated this on Wednesday at the 100 days in office celebration of Oto-Awori LCDA chairman, Mr Abiodun Kareem

The 2023 PDP governorship candidate said the council’s achievements showed what effective use of unrestricted funding could deliver within a short period.

“We must thank President Bola Tinubu for increasing local government funds. Local Governments have not reason not to perform again.

“We appreciate the wonderful works chairmen of various councils are doing here in Lagos,” Adediran said.

He added that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu deserved praise for releasing full allocations to all councils in Lagos State to ensure implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu at the grassroots.

He praised the chairman for completing a legislative building and donating patrol vehicles to security personnel in the LCDA.

Adediran also presented a N5 million cheque donated by Kareem to the G12 Women Development Fund Cooperative.

He said councils across the state were performing better because funds now reach them without deductions.

Also speaking, Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said improved grassroots funding had strengthened local government achievements.

Ojelabi urged youths to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and use them to support continued development across the state.

In his remarks, Kareem said he met infrastructural decay in schools, health centres, roads and drainages on assumption of office.

He said the council had begun addressing the challenges despite limited resources and competing demands.

Adediran, the 2023 PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State, joined other APC leaders to inaugurate the newly constructed Phidel College road delivered by Balogun, in commemoration of his 100 days in office.

Adediran said that the delivery of the project, “serves as a powerful reminder of what purposeful leadership and community-centered governance can accomplish when clear vision is backed by total commitment.

“Witnessing, firsthand, an infrastructural development that will ease mobility, stimulate local commerce, and enhance the daily experience of residents, strengthens the value of sustained public service.

“Moments like this underscore the transformative impact of collective effort and shared responsibility. I am truly honoured to have been part of such a meaningful milestone for our people and our community.

“Hon. Idris Balogun in just 100 days in office has exhibited competence in delivering meaningful projects to the people of Egbe-Idimu LCDA.”

He applauded the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Robert Kayode Bibire, as well as other leaders who had dedicated themselves to the advancement, stability, and cohesion of communities.

Earlier at the mega empowerment programme of Balogun, Jandor commended President Bola Tinubu’s push for full local government autonomy, describing it as helping to shape Nigeria’s future with more funds made available to the local governments.

He applauded Balogun empowerment of 500 residents with grants exceeding N50 million as well as distribution of various equipment including hair dryers, sewing machines, generators, air fryer ovens, clippers, bench grinders, gas cylinders and other items.

Adediran described the council chairman’s performance within 100 days as impressive, attributing such achievements to Tinubu’s policy and reforms which he said, was making more funds available state and local governments.

“I am so thrilled that in just 100 days, a local council development area can do so much. In the history of this country, it has never happened.

“Tinubu’s ingenuity has tripled allocation to every state and local government. If not for his bold policy, we won’t be celebrating these dividends of democracy today.”

Also speaking, Prince Bisi Yusuff, APC apex leader in Alimosho, lauded Balogun for prioritising residents’ welfare and urged him to sustain his performance.

Jandor Advocates Pro-Education Policy as Scholarship Beneficiary Emerges Best Female Law School Graduate

The Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement and 2023 governorship candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor), has called for robust government policies to support the education of indigent students, stressing the need to ease the burden on struggling parents.

Adediran made the appeal while hosting Miss Maryam Lawal, a graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), who recently emerged as the 2025 Best Graduating Female Student and Second Overall Best Graduating Student of the Nigerian Law School.

Miss Lawal, a graduate of LASU’s Faculty of Law (Common and Islamic Law), stood out among 7,134 students called to the Bar on July 10. She earned eight awards, placing her among the top achievers in Nigeria’s legal education sector.

A beneficiary of the Jandor Scholarship Foundation, which Adediran established in 2017, Miss Lawal’s success highlights the impact of sustained educational support. According to Adediran, the foundation has awarded scholarships to no fewer than 100 indigent students annually across Nigerian universities.

Expressing pride in Maryam’s achievement, Adediran urged state governments and well-meaning individuals to emulate such support systems and help lighten the educational burden for many underprivileged students.

Adediran said, “As a matter of fact, some of us would not have been where we are today if not for education. We have the duty to see how many people we can also pull up.

“Outside education, I don’t know what I would have become because I grew up in the Mushin community, education did a lot in where I am today.

“We do need good government policy that will make education affordable to the poorest of the people for our society to be better, and easy to govern.”

Adediran, who recalled that seven years ago Maryam was one of the many names of the foundation’s admission list, said that her hard work had single her out to make everyone proud.

“Maryam has been able to write the name of her parents in gold because of her hardwork and little support from our foundation,” he said.

Adediran announced that he had facilitated employment for Maryam with Wole Olanipekun and Co law firm, if she decides to take up the offers.

According to him, the root of major problems facing the country at the moment is lack of education and ignorance.

“We must prioritise education. It is key, it is the bedrock of our survival, it is the foundation upon which we can build so many things and solve so many problems even leadership,” he said.

According to him, educated Nigerians should not leave the political space for people who do not understand the importance of education and what it takes to govern a society.

Responding, Miss Lawal, who applauded Adediran for his dedication to helping the poor, said that she got his scholarship at 100 Level in 2018, saying “this helped me a lot.”

Lawal, who noted that many indigent students were not finding it difficult to get education because of its high cost, advocated more scholarship schemes for those that could not afford education.

“I hope that we have more scholarship opportunities and people who are actually in need of them get it. All state governments should also invest in education and give bursaries to help the needy,” Lawal said.

Speaking, Mr and Mrs Hakeem Lawal, parents of the beneficiary, commended Adediran for staying with the family.

Lady Funke Ijayekunle, the Central Coordinator, Lagos4Lagos Movement, commended the unwavering commitment of Adediran to supporting the weak with his resources, saying Lawal had done the foundation among the beneficiaries of the 2018 scholarship.

PDP can never win Lagos — Jandor

A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, says the main opposition party would continue to lose elections in the state because of its weak grassroots structure.

Adediran, who defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) recently, said this after he casting his vote during the state’s council election on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)reports that Adediran voted at Polling Unit 001, Ward D ,Irewe,a riverine community in Ojo area of the state.

He said for the PDP to win the state and displace the APC,it needed to work very hard at the grassroots.

He,however, said he did not see even any party displacing APC in the state now or in the future.

“While in the PDP we came with fresh ideas and we did our best, but could not make headway because PDP as a party is rarely known at the grassroots.

“APC as a party in Lagos State, has over the years built strong grassroots structures. The party is household name in every community.

“”Based on this ,people like us, with host of followers, joined the train to build on the legacies of previous leaders rather than stay in opposition.

“As it stands,PDP does not have the grassroots stature to contend with APC in Lagos State. I salute President, Asuwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for laying the foundation of the progress of the party in the state as governor,” he said.

He applauded the outgoing Ojo LGA executives, led by the Chairman, Mr Idowu Rosolu, for the projects executed in the area.

He charged incoming executives to emulate the outgoing team through delivery of people-oriented projects.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)reports that Jandor later paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Irewe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Abideen Adikanbi Durisimi, the Osolu of Irewe Kingdom.

The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has justified why he returned to his initial political family.

Adediran, who said he had tried the two parties, noted that APC was far better than the PDP.

He spoke on Monday in Lagos while announcing his defection to the ruling party in the state.

Adediran, with some of the supporters under the guise of Lagos4Lagos, during the 2023 electioneering process, defected to the PDP and flew its governorship ticket and came a distant third.

Jandor won’t walk Lagos streets if I take him on, says Bode George

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has reacted to the accusation of anti-party activities levelled against him by the party’s standard-bearer in the 2023 Lagos State governorship election, Adediran Olajide, popularly called Jandor.

The PDP chieftain, who described the allegation as “an insult”, said a mere attention from him would politically take away Jandor and his acclaimed popularity from the streets of Lagos.

He spoke yesterday while featuring on Eagle 102.5 FM’s Current Affairs Programme, Frontline.

Labelling Jandor as “insolent” and someone that had never worked in the party’s best interest, George said: “I am in my 80’s, he is a child, this little rat that you are talking about, what does he know about this party? Let me be frank, I consider it as an insult, a complete insolence. This boy, my children are much older than him and like I learnt in my Latin class in secondary school, it is an “infradig”, an attempt for me to respond to that clown, it is absolute rubbish.”

George added that Jandor had no idea of how the party ran, yet he was allowed a chance to be the party’s candidate, prompting people like the Labour Party’s candidate, Gbadebo Vivour-Rhodes, to step down and defect to the opposition party despite he being a more credible candidate.

“Somebody I have regard and respect for and cannot say no to, brought him (Jandor), recommended him and he competed with a highly experienced, brilliant, well educated, one who went to the best university in the world, got his degree from MIT, from a very resound family background, who had contested before in the West Senatorial District of Lagos, which contains 10 local governments, while the Central is five and the East is also five.

“So, West Senatorial District is about 50 per cent of Lagos State and he contested and obviously won, but the manipulations of the electoral commission didn’t just start today.

“This candidate is outstanding, with a very well-respected family background. We asked them to step down for one another, while the other deputise, but immediately after that, he said eh sir, someone told him before that in case he wins, he should go and take one woman from Ikorodu (Actress, Funke Akindele).

“During that primaries, we told the other boy to step down after getting the form for N21 million and of course, I was able to convince his own father, Wale Rhodes-Vivour, because we were classmates. I said his son, Gbadebo, should calm down and take the second slot, else he (GRV) would’ve beaten him (Jandor) blue black and yellow and green. He listened and accepted”, the octogenarian said.

It will be recalled that on March 4, Jandor announced his resignation from the party, citing persistent anti-party activities, internal sabotage and lack of discipline within the party.

Jandor during a media briefing in the state, said some party leaders saw his candidacy as a threat to their interest and worked against him, citing instances of attacks on his campaign and condemnation from party leaders.

He accused the state Chairman of the party, Philip Aivoji, of allegedly issuing a false statement on all PDP platforms, claiming that he (Jandor) had withdrawn from the election.

Jandor also accused Olabode George, a leader of the party in Lagos State, of openly declaring support for the governorship candidate of another party and advising Lagos residents not to vote for the PDP.

However, reacting, George said Jandor’s statement needs no direct reply, citing an unforgivable sin Jandor has committed; a sin he promised not to disclose but forward to a certain Dr. Seye Dairo to reveal to the public.
