Nigerian broadcaster and media strategist Janine Anthony has joined Snap Inc. as a consultant to lead the company’s Creator Partnerships and Content Strategy in Africa.

Anthony announced the development in a LinkedIn post, saying the new role builds on her experience scaling creator and content ecosystems during her time as Partnerships Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa at TikTok.

She noted that the appointment will involve supporting Snapchat’s strategic investment in Africa and strengthening opportunities for creators across the region.

The move marks another step in Anthony’s career, which spans sports broadcasting, digital media, and creator economy development.

She first gained wider recognition for her work promoting African women’s football, including founding LadiesMarch, a pan-African digital network focused on the sport, and producing the FIFA+ documentary series All Roads Lead Down Under ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

In 2019, Anthony became the first African woman to lead football commentary at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt while working with the BBC.

She later contributed to the establishment of the first all-female commentary team at the 2021 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, in collaboration with CAF and FIFA.

Her broadcasting career has included roles with Sky Sports, the Premier League, and DAZN. In 2025, she served as a match day reporter at the FIFA Club World Cup for DAZN, covering high-profile figures in global football.

Beyond broadcasting, Anthony has been involved in shaping Africa’s digital sports and creator ecosystem. At TikTok, she helped develop Sports and Gaming as standalone content verticals, introduced monetisation frameworks, and supported initiatives aimed at increasing the visibility of African creators.

She has also worked in sports technology and communications, including a role at PawaTech, where she contributed to initiatives addressing gender equity in sports rewards.

At Snap Inc., Anthony is expected to focus on expanding Snapchat’s creator ecosystem in Africa by supporting partnerships, content development, and regional growth strategies.

Her work has earned industry recognition, including being named among Africa’s 50 Most Influential Women in Sports for 2025 by the Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG), in acknowledgment of her contributions to media, technology, and sports marketing.

Nigerian sports media executive, entrepreneur, and digital strategist, Janine Anthony, has been formally recognised by the Africa Sports Ventures Group (ASVG) as one of the 50 Most Influential African Women in Sports honorees for the year 2025.

The prestigious list, announced on November 8 in Nairobi, Kenya, celebrates exceptional women whose leadership and innovation are driving the transformation of Africa’s sports ecosystem.

Anthony joined a cohort of continental and global heavyweights, including former FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura, IOC President Kirsty Coventry, and NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi.

Anthony was specifically honoured in the Business and Marketing category, noting her significant influence at the critical intersection of technology, commerce, and media, extending beyond her award-winning on-screen career.

As the Sports and Gaming Partnerships Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa at TikTok, Anthony led the strategy to establish Sports and Gaming as official, standalone content verticals. This business development effort was instrumental in growing the local sports creator economy, providing monetisation frameworks, and scaling African sports content to a global digital audience.

Furthermore, her work within the global iGaming industry at PawaTech (owners of betPawa and Mchezo) included deploying the successful Locker Room Bonus (LRB).

This initiative, now available in Nigeria’s Nationwide League (NNL), is an example of social innovation, utilising mobile money and fintech solutions to ensure instant and equal cash rewards for both male and female players after a match win.

Her trajectory began with historic broadcast roles at the BBC (including being the first African woman to lead football commentary at AFCON 2019), followed by work with Sky Sports, the Premier League, and her role as a Matchday Reporter for DAZN at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the US, alongside fellow Nigerian football legend, John Obi Mikel.

She is also the Founder of LadiesMarch, a dedicated Pan-African digital network for women’s football that recently marked its 10th anniversary in June.

“These extraordinary women represent the heartbeat of African sports. Their courage, vision, and excellence inspire not just the next generation of women in sport, but an entire continent striving for transformation,” said Leslie Koroma Sr., Founder & CEO of the Africa Sports Ventures Group. The 2026 Edition of the awards is scheduled to take place in Dakar, Senegal, alongside the Youth Olympic Games.

Nigerian Broadcaster Janine Anthony Returns to TV as FIFA, DAZN Club World Cup Reporter

After a whirlwind career that has taken her from the studios of the BBC to the heart of TikTok’s sports and gaming strategy, and most recently into the communications leadership of one of Africa’s fastest-rising tech groups, Nigerian sports broadcaster Janine Anthony, is making a highly anticipated return to the big screen and on a familiar global stage no less.

Janine will feature as a Matchday Reporter on DAZN’s English-language coverage of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup, a mega-tournament set to take place in the United States.

“This one feels special,” Janine said. “It’s a return, but also an evolution. From presenting and reporting at the BBC and the English Premier League, my time analysing at Sky Sports News, to working behind the scenes at TikTok and in iGaming, I’ve seen sports storytelling from every angle. Now, I get to bring all of that into one of the biggest football tournaments. It’s exciting!”

The Club World Cup, But Bigger… Much Bigger

Let’s be honest, the Club World Cup has not always gotten the audience reach that has been clamoured for. Previously a December feature, it is mostly dominated by whichever European club lifted the Champions League trophy within the calendar year. But in 2025, FIFA’s shaking things up. The tournament’s getting the full World Cup treatment: a summer slot, big cities, huge audiences, and of course, more money and innovation.

This time around, the format mimics the traditional World Cup: eight groups of four teams each. The top two teams in every group go on to the Round of 16. That’s knockout football from there till the final. Think of it as the Champions League meets the World Cup, but with clubs from every continent.

Janine’s role as a matchday reporter on FIFA and DAZN’s broadcast world feed means her voice, insights, and storytelling, will reach millions across continents.

For Janine, it’s not just another gig. “Nigeria gets to be represented on that stage, another African woman gets to cover football at this level and we have a number of us who get to do what we love, flying our flags,” she says. “So it’s meaningful to take up space, to represent, and to show what’s possible.”

Her journey hasn’t been linear. After her acclaimed stint at the BBC and the Premier League, she pivoted into digital innovation, leading sports and gaming at TikTok before heading up Public Relations and Communications at PawaTech, the parent company of betPawa. But broadcasting has always been where it all started for the award-winning media personality.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, kicking off on Saturday, June 14, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, will be played in twelve venues across the US and the Final will be played at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, July 13. This features the top 32 club teams from six continents contesting for the accolade of World Champion.

According to reports, DAZN streams over 90,000 live events annually, available in more than 200 markets worldwide and as the global home of the FIFA Club World Cup, DAZN will be broadcasting all 63 matches in multiple languages on a free to air basis. The platform features the biggest sports and leagues from around the world –  European football, women’s football, Formula 1, NBA, Moto GP, boxing and MMA as well as the NFL internationally.
