    JUST IN: 12 Jehovah’s Witnesses die in fatal accident in Imo

    Twelve members of Jehovah’s Witnesses traveling from Anambra State to Agwa village in Imo State were involved in a ghastly road accident along the Owerri/Onitsha Road, after Njaba Bridge.

    The accident which occurred on Sunday at 2100 hours involved a gas tanker truck, registration number T 16716 LA, marked “NUPENG,” which was driving against traffic, and a commuter bus, registration number ABB 79 BX, carrying the church members.

    The Imo State Police Command confirmed the accident.

    According to the police spokesman, Henry Okoye, 12 people lost their lives—8 adults and 4 children—while 8 others were injured. 

    He said the deceased were evacuated and deposited at Ogbaku Mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment at Divine Hospital Awo-Omamma.

    He said the police have cleared the wreckage and restored traffic flow, adding that State Police Commissioner CP Aboki Danjuma has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a quick recovery. 

    Okoye warned motorists against reckless driving practices, urging all road users to prioritize safety and obey traffic regulations.

    Jehovah’s Witnesses 2025 convention to focus on pure worship

    Jehovah’s Witnesses have invited all to their annual global convention series, which has the theme “Pure Worship!”.

    Each year, the Witnesses present a free three-day programme open to local communities.

    They will return to the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Bogije, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State for a motivating event exploring the meaning of sincere reverence and worship.

    The Witnesses are one of the largest non-profit organisations in the world and will once again fuel the local economy as they draw more than 33,000 attendees to the city over the course of 11 weekends, beginning June 6, 2025.

    “We look forward to another spiritually uplifting time as we convene once again to bring this exciting programme to Lekki,” said Jahswill Stephen, spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses, in a statement.

    “This year’s convention theme is intended to bring clarity to many people who are searching for hope.

    “All in attendance, it is hoped, would leave feeling refreshed and re-energised with the knowledge of what worship is all about and how this can help them cope with today’s challenges.”

    According to him, the “Pure Worship!” convention will present Bible-based videos, discourses and interviews on topics such as: “What Is Pure Worship?”, “Take these things away from here!” and “Do You Worship What You Know?”

    Stephen said Saturday’s highlight is a baptism of local candidates.

    “Many attendees are also looking forward to Episode 2 of ‘The Good News According to Jesus.’

    “This 18-episode video series is a comprehensive look at the life and ministry of Jesus Christ based solely on the Gospel accounts.

    “Episode 1 premiered as a special feature at last year’s convention series. 

    “Episode 2 will be shown in two parts on Friday and Saturday.

    “Nearly 11 million people attended more than 6,000 three-day conventions organised by Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide in 2024,” the spokesman said.

    The convention will be held on the weekends of June 6 to August 31, 2025 at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Bogije, Ibeju Lekki.

    “The event is free to attend on Friday from 8:20 a.m. to 3:50 p.m.; Saturday from 8:20 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.; Sunday from 8:20 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. 

    “Each day has a one-hour and 20-minute lunch break.

    “Bible-based talks, interviews and video presentations will be featured. 

    “Topics include: ‘What Is Pure Worship?’ on Friday at 8:40am; ‘Take these things away from here!’ on Saturday, 2:30pm and ‘Do You Worship What You Know?’ on Sunday at 10:15am,” Stephen said.

    There will also be conventions in other locations, such as at the Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Idiroko Road in Ota, Ogun State.

  •  Jehovah’s Witnesses conclude convention

    Delegates from South West will be attending the 2018 Jehovah’s Witnesses regional convention in American Sign Language (ASL) in the ancient city of Ibadan.

    The eight of the ninth series of the convention, which ends today, commenced on November 30- December 2  at  the Assembly Hall ,  Ifatumo village,  along Lalupon Ejioku road, Ibadan.

    A statement by the Media Contact, Olayinka Dada, said the theme of the convention is “Be courageous”.

    Dada explained: “Looking at the news today, you can clearly see that people of all ages are dealing with more anxieties and fears than ever before, it takes courage to face these pressures.

    “The three – day program consists 54 presentations.

    All the presentations would be given in American Sign Language  (ASL).

    “On Sunday, a film entitled The story of Jonah- A lesson in courage and mercy will be shown.

    Jehovah’s Witnesses hold convention in Osun

    This year’s edition of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Convention in Ilerin-Ilesa, Osun State, started on October 20 and will end on December 10.

    A statement by the convention spokesperson, Paul Ajibola Oyebisi, said delegates are expected from Osun and Ekiti states.

    The statement further disclosed that the convention with the theme “Don’t Give Up” will be presented in English and Yoruba languages, adding that new members who have completed basic Bible study programme will be baptised every Saturday.

    According to the statement, the convention will be two parts, including brief discourses, interviews and short videos.

    “Life challenges can rob us of peace and even cause some to consider giving up. Our convention this year has been prepared to benefit, not only the witnesses, but also all interested in true succour. It promises to empower individuals to keep on enduring and to cope with challenges productively,” the statement said.

    For the next six weeks, starting from Friday, the Jehovah’s Witnesses will hold their annual conventions at Ilerin in Ilesa, Osun State.

    A statement by the convention’s spokesperson, Paul Ajibola Oyebisi, said participants are expected from 140 congregations in Osogbo, Ile-Ife, Ilesa and environs .

    Oyebisi, who said an open invitation has been extended to the public, said the theme is “Imitate Jesus”.

    He said: “The first of the six three-day events will be held in Ilerin-Ilesa from Friday at 8.20 am. An estimated 6,000 people will come to the Ilerin-Ilesa convention .

    “The conventions will examine Jesus’ life as outlined in the Bible and emphasise how all, can benefit in practical ways from His example and teachings.

    “A highlight of the programme will be the keynote address on Friday morning entitled: “Concealed in Him are All the Treasures of Wisdom”.

    The Annual convention of the Jehovah’s Witnesses is to begin at the end of September. It holds for the next 12 weeks across the country.

    The theme for this year’s programme is “Keep seeking first God’s kingdom!”

    Nigeria plan to host 271 Conventions inside large Auditoriums in 30 cities. Worldwide, there are over 7,900,000 Witness in more than 113,000 Congregations.

    For Lagos and Ogun residents, four large auditoriums are available at Ota, Badagy, Daluwon and Lekki. An estimated 6,000 will attend Ota Assembly Ground, each week for 12 successive weekends.

    Moved by love and to make sure many enjoy the rich Bible-based programmes; personal, Printed Invitation is being extended to everyone in Lagos, Ogun, and indeed all conventions’ cities. The first of three-day events to be held in Ota will begin Friday September 26th at 8.20am. There is no admission fee. Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses are supported entirely by voluntary donations.

    Beginning Friday morning, the Convention highlights a connection between family values and the teaching of Jesus Christ. The programme will also examine how those words of Jesus can be of special interest to families.

    Speaking on what to expect at the convention,  Afolabi Odeyemi, a Convention Spokesman, states, “People of many faiths pray for God’s kingdom. This Convention will explain what the kingdom is and how it can be a positive influence in our lives. A highlight of the programme will be the keynote address on Friday morning, which will discuss how that Kingdom is benefiting people today. …A core belief of Jehovah’s Witnesses, based on Biblical and historical evidence, is that Jesus Christ began to rule as the King of God’s Kingdom in 1914. The convention programme marks this year as the centennial of that event.”
