    Filmmaker Funke Akindele has thanked Nigerians for enthusiastic response to her upcoming film, “Everybody loves Jenifa.”

    Acknowledging the outpouring of love, Funke wrote: “WOW! We’re overwhelmed with love! Thank you to our amazing fans for the incredible response to our “Everybody Loves Jenifa” announcement video! Your kind words and excitement mean the world to us. Keep sharing the love! Don’t forget, the movie hits cinemas NATIONWIDE on December 13th!”

    This comes after a video teaser pitting “Everybody Loves Jenifa” against “A Tribe Called Judah 2” garnered massive support for Funke’s project.

    Hours before the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), a picture of ‘Jenifa’, the alter ego of actress Funke Akindele-Bello, looking studious and another picture of a dictionary, side by side, was posted on the actress’ Instagram page. It was captioned ‘#Jenifa is trying to write an acceptance speech for the #amvca2017 today. Let’s hope she wins o!! #bestactressincomedy#besttvseries #jenifasdiary #allthebest.’
    Later at the Eko Hotel, venue of the AMVCA, the dream of the  actress who made a runaway success with the Jenifa brand came true as she won both awards – Best actress in a Comedy movie/TV Series and Best TV Series, courtesy of Jenifa. It was the third time she won the award in that category.
    Looking glam in her shimmering dress and with her rapper husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello (JJC) beside her, Funke thanked her fans in her acceptance speech.
    “Thank you so much. Good evening everybody. I’m so happy tonight. I feel so privileged, loved, appreciated. It’s not easy to put Jenifa’s Diary together. I don’t actually have a life. Thank God I married this man. Because if not, I sleep, eat and write, act and produce Jenifa’s Diary. I dedicate this to God, the giver of all talents, my parents, my husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, my siblings, the cast and crew of Jenifa’s Diary, the director, everybody. In fact, all the Jenifans, she said”
    Of course, she completed the stage with Jenifa’s comedic mannerisms, blowing kisses in the way only Jenifa does.
    The actress also got N250, 000 shopping voucher from sponsor, Konga.

  • Afe Babalola, Jenifa, others for students’ award

    University Crest Awards (ANUCA), the maiden inter-varsity award, is to hold next month. Celebrities and students with outstanding record in various endeavours will be honoured at the event.

    The award is the initiative of Ayotunde Dabira, a young entrepreneur. Its objective is to encourage entrepreneurship among students.

    Some personalities and organisations that will be honoured include Aare Afe Babalola; Kunle Afolayan; Funke Akindele(aka Jenifa); a comedian, Seyi Law; a hip-hop artiste, Kiss Daniel and Guaranty Trust Bank, among others.

    The award has over 50 categories. Some students have been nominated for the award. Some of the students’ categories include Most Enterprising Student of the Year, Student CEO of the Year, Students’ Union President of the Year, Most Outstanding Student in Sport, Student Brand of the Year, Student Music Producer of the Year and Student Journalist of the Year, among others.

    Ayotunde said: “The nominees are selected based on their integrity and character credibility. We also have a voting standard that will help us select their winners. The award is focused mainly on education, entrepreneurship, music, fashion.”

    Since she played Gbogbo Bigz Girls in actress Funke Akindele’s award-winning flick, Jenifa, Eniola Badmus’s profile has been on the rise.

    A few days ago, the graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, launched her radio programme, Your Head Dey There, on both Wazobia and Naija FM stations, to the admiration of her fans.

    According to her, Your Head Dey There is a ‘question-and-answer programme, which will focus on the environment, especially for residents in Lagos State.

    She added that there would be cash prizes for listeners who correctly answer questions on the show.

    Eniola, also a graduate of Economics from the Lagos State University, Ojo, has appeared in several English and Yoruba home movies, since she started her acting career some years back.

    Funke Akindele becomes Polio Ambassador

    Renowned actress and movie producer, Funke Akindele  (Jenifa) has been appointed a Polio Ambassador by the Rotary Club International.

    Jenifa will help Rotary achieve its goal of a polio-free world in a new public awareness campaign called “this close” by raising her thumb and forefinger in the “this close”gesture in the ad tagline “we’re this close to ending polio”.

    “I feel so honored to be part of a charitable cause like this. I accepted this appointment because polio kills or paralyzes children and Rotary is committed to ending this terrible disease worldwide.
     “I also learned that the world has never been so close to eradication of polio since the mid 80’s thanks to the vigorous efforts of Rotary International and its partners,” she said.
    The actress will be unveiled to the media next month as part of the activities lined up to mark the World Polio Day.
    With her recent appointment as polio ambassador, Funke Akindele joins the likes of Bill Gates, Nobel Peace Laureate Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, action movie star Jackie Chan, Pop star PSY , Dan Maraya Jos and Sanni Danjer.
