  • Ramadan: Jigawa reduces working hours

    The Jigawa Government has approved the  reduction of official working hours in the state by two hours during the Ramadan.

    Malam Isma’il Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer, Office of the State Head of the Civil Service, disclosed this in Dutse on Saturday.

    He said that civil servants in the state would report to the office at 9 a.m. and close by 3 p.m. between Monday and Thursday, instead of 5 p.m.

    Ibrahim, in a statement, said that the workers would report to work on Friday by 9.a.m. and close by 1p.m., instead of the usual 3 p.m.

    He said that civil servants in the state should use the Ramadan to pray for God’s guidance and blessings for the state.

    Ibrahim noted that civil servants were to use the fasting period to pray for peace and economic prosperity of the state and Nigeria at large.

    Jigawa has received N140bn as federal allocation since 2015 – Commissioner

    The Jigawa State Government has received the total sum of N140 billion from the federation account since its inception in May 2015, the state commissioner for finance said on Saturday.

    Alhaji Umar Namadi disclosed this in Dutse as part of activities marking the second anniversary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) administration in the state.

    Namadi said the state government has settled about N10 billion liabilities inherited from the last administration.

    The commissioner said, “N24 billion was spent on water supply, while N700 million was expended on electrification projects.

    “N6 billion was spent on education, Agriculture took N3 billion and N2 billion was spent on health care services during the period under review.

    “The present administration is not owning workers’ salaries. Since the inception of Governor Badaru Abubakar’s administration workers and pensioners were paid as at when due.”

    “Due process is strictly followed in all government spending and expenditure for transparency and accountability.”

     

  • Jigawa establishes internal audit department

    Jigawa State Government said it had inaugurated an Internal Audit Department in the state’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to comply with fiscal rules.

    According to a statement by the ministry’s spokesperson, Alhaji Isma’il Ibrahim, in Dutse on Friday while inaugurating the department.

    The state’s Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Umar Namadi, said the gesture was to ensure that activities of government were done in accordance with the financial rules and regulations.

    The statement reported the Namadi as saying that the establishment of the department was in compliance with the requirement of the fiscal sustainability plan of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

    It added that the commissioner noted that the new internal audit department in the ministry would perform both system and prepayment audit with more emphasis on system audit.

    The statement stated that the department was a “watchdog” of government financial transactions.

    It further enjoined Heads of Internal Audit in MDAs in the state to ensure that rules and regulations were followed, especially as checks and balances.

  • Farming: Jigawa youths to cultivate five hundred hectares of rice

    The Jigawa Government says it has clustered 1,000 youth to cultivate 500 hectares of land for the cultivation of rice in Miga and Kaugama Local Government Areas of the state.

    Alhaji Jamilu Usaman-Danmalam, the Special Assistant to Gov. Muhammad Badaru on Rice Production and Value Change, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Tuesday.

    Usman-Danmalam also said that the youth would be engaged to grow rice on the state government-owned Fadama sites in Tsagewa, Yalo, Damomuwa, Jamaga and Kurgel villages of the two LGAs.

    He further said the sites were cleared and demarcated, adding that two youths were engaged to cultivate two hectares.

    The governor’s aide also told NAN that the exercise would be conducted under the state government’s Cluster Farming Scheme, initiated to empower youths become self reliant.

    According to him, government has concluded all arrangements for the exercise, adding that all the inputs are on ground.

    Usman-Danmalam further said 1,700 tube wells had been sunk by the state government at the FADAMA sites to ensure availability of water for the rice cultivation.

    “We have gone far in compiling the names of the beneficiaries and as soon as we are through, we will distribute the items for them to commence.

    ‘‘This is part of plans by this administration, under Gov. Muhammed Badaru, to empower and encourage youths, to go into farming.

    “The scheme will enable the beneficiaries become self-reliant; it will also make agriculture attractive and acceptable to youths in the state.

    “It is also to encourage dry season rice production under the state’s government cluster/group farming initiative.

    The governor’s aide promised that the state government would provide the youth with seeds, fertiliser, insecticide, water pumps and fuel at subsidised prices.

    NAN reports that Jigawa government is also executing similar programme in Birninkudu LocalGgovernment Area, where it empowered 400 youths to cultivate 200 hectares of rice.

    The programme is being done on the state-owned Farara-Zuma Fadama site in the area.

    According to the special assistant, the youth would pay back the soft loan after they must have cultivated and sold the rice.

    ‘‘After the exercise, the off-takers will come and buy from the youth, then, we will take our money for the provision of farm inputs.

    ‘’The youth will get their share too,’’ he said.

    The Jigawa Government says it will soon empower 400 youths to cultivate 200 hectares of rice in Birninkudu Local Government Area of the state.

    Alhaji Jamilu Usaman-Danmalam, the Special Assistant to Gov. Muhammad Badaru on Rice Production and Value Change, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Thursday.

    Usaman-Danmalam said that the youth would be engaged to grow rice on the state government-owned Farara-Zuma Fadama site in Birninkudu.

    According to him, government has concluded all arrangements for this exercise; all the inputs are on ground.

    ‘‘We are now compiling the names of the beneficiaries and as soon as we are through we will just distribute the items for them to commence.

    ‘‘This is part of our plans to empower and encourage youths to go into farming.

    ‘‘The gesture is to enable the beneficiaries become self-reliant, it is also to make agriculture attractive and acceptable to youths in the state,’’ he said.

    He explained that the gesture was to encourage dry season rice production under the state’s government cluster/group farming initiative.

    The governor’s aide added that youths would be clustered whereby two young persons would cultivate one hectare of land.

    He said that the state government would provide the youth with seeds, fertiliser, insecticide, including, 200 prices of water pumps at subsidised prices.

    Jamilu-Danmalam further told NAN that 200 tube wells had been sunk by the government at the FADAMA site to ensure availability of water for rice cultivation.

    The special assistant said that the names of the beneficiaries were undergoing screening, and assured them that the government would bring off-takers to buy rice produced by youths.

    He said the youth would pay back the soft loan after they must have cultivated and sold the rice.

    ‘‘After the exercise, the up off-takers will come and buy from the youths, then we will take our money for the provided farm inputs and they will get their share too,’’ he said.

     

  • Jigawa targets 1.6m children for Immunisation in March

    The Jigawa Government says it is targeting 1.6 million children for the March Immunisation Plus Days (IPDs) in the state.

    The Commissioner for Health, Dr Abba Zakari, disclosed this while speaking at the launching of Universal Health Coverage, in Jaudi village in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.

    According to him, the state government intends to vaccinate 1,680,000 children starting from today through Tuesday.

    “It should be kept in record that the state government has provided all the needed political and financial support in all the rounds of IPDs we have had in the last two years.

    “I will like to use this opportunity to sincerely thank our traditional and religious leaders for their sustained support in the fight against polio and other health activities in the state,” he said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise would be conducted simultaneously across the 27 local government areas of the state.

    NAN also reports that the exercise, which began on March 23, would end on March 28.

    Jigawa: N35m to be spent to build classrooms for nomadic schools

    The Jigawa Government on Tuesday said it would spend N35 million in 2017 to construct seven additional classroom blocks for nomadic schools across the state.

    According to The Executive Secretary of the state Nomadic Education Board, Alhaji Ali Manu, the project had been captured in 2017 budget and work would commence as soon as the estimate is passed by State House of Assembly and assented to by the Governor.

    According to him, the classrooms would address inadequate infrastructure in nomadic schools in the state.

    He said that the board had also concluded plans to build 50 temporary structures for transit nomads across the state.

    The executive secretary stated that such structures would be made of moulded blocks and roofing sheets.

    “We used to make use of trampolines for the transit nomads before but wind and rainstorm often destroy them and hence we move to what is known as dwarf structures,” he said.

    Manu disclosed that in 2016, the sum of N13.1 million was spent to renovate four of the schools damaged by rainstorm.

    According to him, no fewer than five communities had written to the board to demand for establishment of nomadic schools in their areas.

    The executive secretary assured that such schools would soon be established and pledged government’s willingness to always give necessary supports to ensure that every citizenry was educated.

    The Jigawa Government says it will immunise 1.7 million children against polio in the ongoing immunisation campaign across the state.

    Dr Kabiru Ibrahim, Executive Secretary of the state Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHDCA), disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Dutse.

    Ibrahim said that enough personnel had been engaged to conduct the exercise simultaneously across the 27 local government areas of the state to ensure that all children had been immunized against the disease.

    The executive secretary commended traditional and religious leaders as well as other stakeholders in the state for their support and cooperation in ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise so far.

    Ibrahim, who expressed satisfaction at the level of compliance by parents, urged husbands to always allow their wives to take their children to health care facilities for the routine immunisation.

    He also appealed to parents to co-operate with immunisation officials for the exercise to be hitch-free.

    Ibrahim said such cooperation would further facilitate quick response in combating the disease and addressing other emergency situations in the state.

    NAN reports that the current round of polio immunisation commenced in all the 27 local government areas of the state on Nov. 12.

    Jigawa Govt. empowers women with 660 goats

    Jigawa Government has empowered 220 women with 660 goats in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.

    The goats were distributed to the beneficiaries in the 11 wards of the local government under the Goat Rearing/Breeding Loan Scheme introduced to empower women in the state.

    The Chairman of the goats distribution committee, Dr Ahmed Zubairu, said that the beneficiaries would pay back the revolving loan in 18 months.

     

    Zubairu said that the women were given two she-goats and one he-goat to rear, adding that the breed that gives birth to three twice a year.

    According to him, the women would pay back the loan with three goats.

    He explained that decision to give the beneficiaries goats was because of its economic value and simplicity to rear.

    “The government decided to give the women goats because of its economic values both the goats meat and its skin are need.

    “Since most of the beneficiaries are rural dwellers, to feed the animals will not be hard for them because of the availability of the animal feeds in their villages,’’ he said.

    Also, the APC Women Leader in the state, Hajiya Binta Shuaibu, commended the government for the gesture, pointing out that it would make the beneficiaries self-reliant.

    Binta added that it would enhance the economic status of the women, and urged them to payback within the 18 months.
