Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has signed into law the 2026 Appropriation Bill totaling over ₦901.84 billion, describing it as a true reflection of the aspirations and needs of the state’s residents.

The governor assented to the budget on Tuesday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Dutse, noting that the estimates were shaped by inputs gathered through a state-wide citizens’ engagement programme.

Governor Namadi’s approval followed the Jigawa State House of Assembly’s passage of the appropriation bill in less than 24 hours, alongside the approval of the 27 local government councils’ budgets amounting to ₦288 billion.

Tagged “Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Greater Jigawa II,” the 2026 fiscal plan was initially presented to the House on November 25, 2025.

The budget prioritises capital expenditure, which accounts for about 77 per cent of total spending, with significant allocations to education (over 26 per cent) and agriculture, reflecting the administration’s development agenda.

Speaking after signing the bill, Governor Namadi said the budget is realistic and people-oriented, capturing the critical needs and priorities of Jigawa residents.

“The content of this budget is based on inputs gathered during our citizens’ engagement programme across the 27 local government councils of the state,” he stated.

He also commended the State House of Assembly for its swift and thorough scrutiny of the bill and praised the State Executive Council for coordinating the citizens’ engagement process and ensuring public demands were reflected in the budget.
