  • Jigawa promotes 14,900 teachers in 2018 – NUT

    The Nigeria Union of Teachers ( NUT ), Jigawa chapter, says the Jigawa Government promoted 14,900 teachers to their next grade levels in 2018.

    The Chairman, Alhaji Abdulkadir Yunusa, disclosed this on Friday in Hadejia in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

    He said that 12,000 primary and junior secondary schools teachers were promoted, while 2,900 senior secondary schools teachers were also promoted.

    Yunusa also said that 2,000 primary schools teachers and 750 secondary schools teachers were recruited by the state government in 2018.

    He said that 514 teachers sat for the Teachers Registration Council examination during the period.

    The chairman called on all teachers in the state to ensure they registered with the council to avoid being banned from practice.

    “Whether you are a degree or NCE holder, failure to register with the council will no longer be tolerated,” he said.

  • NSCDC recovers N31.5m debts in Jigawa in 2018

    he Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Jigawa Command said it recovered more than N31.598 million debts in the state in 2018.

    The Spokesman of the command, Mr Adamu Abdullahi said this in a statement in Dutse on Wednesday.

    Abdullahi said that the amount was recovered following complaints the command received from aggrieved creditors.

    “Between Jan. and Dec. 2018, the command was able to recover the sum of N31.598 million debts,’’ Abdullahi said.

    He said that the command’s Peace and Conflict Management (PCM) Unit had amicably resolved the disagreements between the debtors and their creditors.

    According to him, the command has handed over the recovered funds to their rightful owners after the resolution of the disagreements.

    Abdullahi promised that the corps would continue to intensify efforts to ensure that residents of the state lived in peace and harmony with one another.

  • Jigawa govt impounds N100m adulterated farm produce

    The Jigawa Consumer Protection Committee has impounded adulterated farm produce worth over N100 million from 2018 till date.

    The Committee’s Chairman, Alhaji Farouk Abdallah, made the disclosure yesterday in Hadejia, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

    He said that the committee impounded many bags of adulterated hibiscus, sesame and flour in Mallammadori, Taura and Gujungu areas of the state.

    “Part of our mandate is to impound adulterated produce and handover the offenders to relevant authorities for prosecution.

    “Recently, we impounded 80 bags of hibiscus at Mallammadori, while the suspects were arraigned in a magistrates’ court in Hadejia.

    “Just last week, we seized 40 bags of sesame in Gujungu. They offenders will also be prosecuted.’’

    Abdallah warned produce merchants against selling unwholesome farm produce in whatever guise, saying anyone found wanting would be prosecuted.

    “Our objective is to ensure that the interests of both the buyer and seller are protected.

    “Therefore, we often sensitise traders, through multiple channels, on the need to avoid selling unwholesome produce to the general public.

    “Our intelligent officers are everywhere and will surely report offenders to us,” he said.

  • Jigawa, Bauchi, Plateau, Benue govs mourn

    THE Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Muhammed Badaru Abubakar has condoled President Muham-madu Buhari, the Sultan of Sokoto, the people of Nigeria and the entire Muslim Umma on the passing away of Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari. The governor described the late Shagari as a humble, gentle and patriotic leader. Badaru prayed Allah almighty to grant his gentle soul rest in Jannatul Firdausi.

    The Bauchi State Government said it received with shock the news of the death of former President. “He will be remembered for several  reasons chief among which was his forgiving heart and tolerance. He  was an unqualified democrat and lived by the tenets of his religion.A modest man.As a politician, he was even more modest giving more than he received.

    “With his passage, a data bank of statecraft is gone and a big void created that may be difficult to fill.We take solace in the Quranic pledge that ‘every soul shall taste death’.We pray to Almighty Allah to grant his family and indeed all citizens of our great country,the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,” Ali Ali, Special Adviser to Governor said.

    Plateau State Governor, Rt Hon.  Simon Lalong, also commiserated with Shagari’s family and Governor Aminu Tambuwal. He said the late first Executive President of Nigeria was a man of rare exemplary character, who epitomized patriotism, integrity, humility and maturity, whose wise counsel will be missed by the nation.

    “I received the news of the death of former President Shehu Shagari with deep shock and sadness. He was a man of rare exemplary character who epitomized patriotism, integrity, humility and maturity. Shagari’s death has indeed robbed Nigeria of a great nationalist and uncommon elder statesman, whose wise counsel will be missed by the nation, especially in this critical epoch of her nation-building efforts,” Lalong said.

    Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom joins millions of other Nigerians in mourning Shagari’s death. Ortom described the late former President as a true patriot who worked hard for the unity of the country. He stated  that Shagari played a key role in the development of the country as its first Executive President and remained a pillar of democracy till his death. The Governor consoled members of the former President’s family in particular and the people of Sokoto State in general.

     

  • Jigawa spends N93m on wedding of 275 orphaned girls

    THE Jigawa State government yesterday spent over N93 million on the provision of bride room furniture for 275 orphaned girls who were drawn from the 27 local government areas of the state.

    The mass wedding was conducted at the Dutse central mosque under the chairmanship of the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi.

    Speaking to news men shortly after the wedding fatiha, the Special Assistant to the governor on religious and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Mustapha Sale Kwalam said “the state government took all the responsibilities of all the expenses.”

    He explained that the money spent “includes the transportation to the respective destinations of the beneficiaries. Ten orphaned girls from each of the 27 local government areas, and one from each political ward.”

    He stated further that Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar had earlier promised widows mass wedding at the beginning of his administration.

    The special assistant maintained that when the government agreed on the decision it set-up a 16 man committee under the state Hisbah (Sharia law enforcement agents) commandant with membership of traditional, religious leaders and government relevant agencies to screen and select the 10 orphaned girls from each of the 27 local government areas.”

    Kwalam said a set of bride room furniture is allocated to each of 275 brides.

  • Jigawa offers women N187m grant

    The Jigawa State Government has  disbursed over N187 million grant to 35,810 women as part of its Women Empowerment Programme in the state.

    The Special Adviser to Governor Muhammed Badaru on Economic Development, Alhaji Abba Mujaddadi, broke the news in Hadejia.

    He said N176.35 million was disbursed to a set of 35, 270 women by the wife of  the state governor, Hajiya Magajiya Badaru.

    Mujaddadi said the women, who were drawn from the 3,527 polling units in the state, received N5, 000 each, adding that 10 women were selected from each polling unit.

    The Special Adviser said another set of 540 women, who owned eateries, got N10.8 million grant and 1,080 firewood stoves.

    He explained that each beneficiary  received N20, 000 and two stoves to enhance her cooking business.

    On the Goats Breeding Micro-finance Scheme, Mujaddadi said 8,535 women had received 25,605 goats.

    He noted that the programme was the most successful micro credit scheme in the state, with 92 per cent retention and 79 per cent repayment level.

    The Special Adviser said the empowerment was borne out of the government’s desire to create job opportunities for women to be self-reliant.

    “This government is committed to empowering women to make them become productive and self-reliant.

    “It is our firm belief that if a woman is in a good financial standing, there will be peace and stability in the family,” he said, urging the beneficiaries to use the grants wisely to improve their living conditions.

     

  • Jigawa promotes 378 teachers

    No fewer than 378 primary and secondary schools teachers in Auyo Local Government Council of Jigawa have been promoted to their next grade levels by the Jigawa Government.

    The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Chairman in the council, Alhaji Magaji Namadi, disclosed this while presenting promotion letters to the teachers on Friday in Auyo.

    According to Namadi, the teachers must reciprocate the gesture by being hardworking and dedicated to duty.

    “Show appreciation to government by maintaining ethical standard and avoid acts that will undermine the learning abilities of your students,” he said.

    Namadi also appealed to the government to ensure that teachers promotions come as at when due.

    “One of the best ways of motivating a teacher is through promotion.

    “When a teacher is promoted as at when due, I assure you he will give his best and that will impart positively on his students,” the chairman said.

    Responding on behalf of the teachers, Malam Mohammed Garba, expressed gratitude to the state government for the promotion.

    He said that the teachers were ready to perform their duties effectively and would not betray the trust reposed in them.

    Garba commended the government for the payment of their salaries and other entitlements promptly.

  • Sokoto agog as Atiku flags off Northwest campaign

    The People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) on Monday flagged off the Northwest Zonal campaign of its Presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

    Kangiwa square, venue of the flag off has been a beehive of activities since the early hours of Monday.

    Already, the party’s chieftains , supporters and well-wishers from across the zone comprising of Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa and Zamfara have converged on the multipurpose venue.

    However, the Presidential candidate and his running mate, Peter Obi, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, governorship candidates, National chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, Senate President Bukola Saraki, serving and former PDP governors arrived the venue  at about 2pm.

  • FRSC establishes fire fighting unit in Kaduna

    The Kaduna Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it has established a Fire Fighting Unit to save lives in accidents that involve fire outbreaks.

    The Sector Commander, Umar Ibrahim, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Kaduna during the flag-off ceremony of the 2018 Ember Months Campaign tagged: “Safety Driving, Safe Arrival”.

    According to Ibrahim, the move which is the first and only one in the country, became necessary to avert loss of lives caused by fire outbreaks during accidents.

    He said that Kaduna State Government has donated two fire fighting trucks.

    “Officers of the unit have been trained and will be positioned along the Kaduna-Abuja and Kaduna-Zaria Expressways, for quick response.

    “I thank the Kaduna State Government for supporting the corps with the trucks and implementing several road safety policies and programmes in the state.’’

    He assured the government that the FRSC will make the best use of the equipment, to further enhance safety on the highways.

    The commander said that the Ember Months Campaign is organised as a public enlightenment campaign of the corps toward ensuring safer roads during festive seasons.

    “To sustain the campaign, road shows and rallies will be carried out from now till the end of January at major motor parks and worship places, to create the necessary awareness on safe driving.

    “Therefore, every stakeholder has a civic responsibility of ensuring that the message we set out to preach through the campaign is not received as formalities but adequately adhered to guarantee safety of road users,” he said.

    Ibrahim called on transport union leaders, public servants, and media organisations to assist the corps in reaching out to as many road users as possible, to ensure accident free festive season.

    Inaugurating the trucks, Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, commended the command for the efforts toward addressing the menace of reckless driving on highways, particularly during the ember months.

    El-Rufai, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Works, Housing and Transport, Malam Murtala Dabo, said that his administration will continue to support the FRSC in achieving its goals.

    Also speaking, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, also thanked the Kaduna State Government for its continued support and partnership toward ensuring accident-free roads in the state.

    Oyeyemi, who was represented by the Assistant Corp Marshal, Abayomi Omiyale, who is the Zonal Commander in charge of Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, urged other states to emulate Kaduna state.

    He advised motorists and roads users to abide by all traffic rules and regulations, to prevent avoidable deaths and accidents.

    According to him, the decision we take now in our driving attitude will determine how we arrive in 2019; alive or dead, on sick bed or healthy and sound.

    On his part, Malam Lawal Kajuru, State Secretary, Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, assured the FRSC and other relevant stakeholders of the union’s commitment toward respecting traffic regulations.

  • Jigawa constructs 287 primary health centres in three years – Ibrahim

    Jigawa Deputy Gov. Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, said the state government has constructed standard primary health centres in each of the 287 wards in the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

    Hassan, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Dutse on Friday, said the projects were in fulfillment of the “One Ward One Health Facility’’ campaign promise of the state All progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

    According to the deputy governor, the projects will be handed over to the state government by the contractors in December.

    “As at February, 257 units had already been completed, only 30 units of the projects were yet to be completed.

    “Every single ward, depending on its size, will have a health facility run by a health attendant if it is a small ward and a medical doctor if it is a big town,” he said.

    Hassan said the state government had committed over 15 per cent of its budget to the health sector since it took over in 2015.

    “We have been committing over 15 per cent of our budget to the health sector since we took over and I want to inform you that our performance level on the 2018 budget is 96 Per cent.

    “Jigawa is the number one state in the Northwest in the Federal Ministry of Health’s ‘Save One Million Lives initiative’ conceived two years ago.

    “We are getting extra 3 million dollars from the World Bank to achieve our objectives,” he said.

    Hassan said the state government was also committed to the completion of projects started by the previous administrations.

    “We have inherited over N100 billion in projects from the previous administrations.

    “For two years, we have been trying to complete these projects, some of which were signed in 2010 and 2011. We only started new projects in 2017.

    “These old projects have direct bearing to the lives of the people. Therefore, they will be completed by the contractors that started them.

    “We refused to bow to pressure from the opposition who claimed that we do not have new projects to show,” he said.

    On the School Feeding Programme, the deputy governor said the state was feeding 722,000 primary four pupils to six pupils in the state.

    He said 7,100 cooks were engaged to feed the pupils every school day.
    Hassan noted that the programme was complimenting the Federal Governments feeding programme which catered for primary one to primary three pupils.
