Two employees of Iluobe Petroleum and Gas Limited, who allegedly stole their employer’s N3.5 million diesel, were on Friday charged before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused – Femi Akinkugbe (28) the station manager; Jimoh Ibrahim (39) a cashier – are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
Akinkugbe resides at No.12, Awoyokun Street, Onipanu, Lagos, while Ibrahim lives at No. 24, Kosoko Street, Ijesha, also in Lagos.
The prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu told the court that the offences were committed on November 15, 2013 at No. 25, Eshit, Ijesha.
“The accused obtained 33, 000 litres of diesel valued at N3.5 million belonging to their employer under the pretext of selling the product and giving him the proceeds later.
“They sold the product and converted the money to personal use.’’
Nwosu said the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Olatunbosun Abolarinwa, granted them bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 provides a penalty of three years imprisonment for offenders.
The case was adjourned to March 13 for mention.

Kafilat Ogbara resurfaces
It is that season again when everyone with an ambition takes advantage of any available platform. And Lagos big girl, Kafilat Ogbara, has been doing this with utmost zeal and consistency.
Smarting from a blow dealt on her by an unfortunate fire accident that saw her taking many medical trips to Europe in 2012 and last year, the University of Lagos alumnus recently appeared on a Lagos-based television station where she showed the viewing public that she still possesses some social and political magic.
Besides her enchanting beauty, Kafilat displayed depth in her appraisal of Nigerian politics and its intrigues. She also spoke glowingly of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his party, the PDP. She also heaped praises on Governor Ibikunle Amosun for delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun State.
Already, results have started trickling in for the fair-complexioned politician. A few days ago, maverick businessman, Jimoh Ibrahim, appointed her as the Managing Director of his publishing outfit. It is also being discussed in hush tones that she has been nominated for a board appointment by the Federal Government. The truth in this, however, remains yet unascertained.

How to revive dead companies, by Jimoh Ibrahim
BANKS should be mandated to set aside five per cent of their gross profit into a special-purpose scheme for supporting the reactivation and operations of dead and moribund firms, the Group Managing Director, Energy Group, Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim, has said.
Speaking at the Success Digest Enterprise Awards (SDEA) organised by Success Attitude Development Centre (SADC) to honour entrepreneurs, Jimoh Ibrahim made a strong case for the reactivation of dead and moribund companies as the lasting solution to unemployment and social vices.
According to him, the government needs to set up a special committee to revive dead companies in the country so as to improve job creations and enhance living standards of the people.
He encouraged upcoming entrepreneurs to imbibe the strategic business concept of buying dead companies and turning them around.
According to him, in deploying the buy-dead-and-turnaround strategy, the entrepreneur should first diagnose what the dead company’s problems were, which would allow him to strategize on what to do to turn the company around.
Expatiating on how to acquire such corporation through government public offerings, Ibrahim stated that the best way is to get global experts during bidding to help package the proposals.
“All that is necessary is to first win the offer, and then the banks will come knocking on your doors to sponsor the project,” Ibrahim said.
Ibrahim won the bid to buy some public companies, which were offered for sale by the Federal Government in 2006, including NICON Insurance, Nigeria Re-Insurance and Virgin Nigeria.
He explained how his company bided for and won the NICON Insurance offer without having up to a N100 million in its account.
Ibrahim was honoured and inducted into the SDEA’s Entrepreneurs Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution to development of corporate Nigeria. The 2013 SDEA also honoured eight other entrepreneurs and a company for their excellent performances including Mr. Mudiaga Enajemo, CEO, Mudi Store who carted away the Male Entrepreneur of the yea;, Erelu Adesola, CEO, Waxtall Limited, Female Entrepreneur of the year; Dr. Ola Orekunrin, Founder Flying Doctor in Nigeria who won the Young Entrepreneur of the year award. The Entrepreneurial Couple of the Year award went to Cyprian & Doreen Orakpor, CEO, Transerve Disc Tech Limited, the Creative Business of the Year went to Opa Williams, CEO, Virgin Organization Limited, while Linda Ikeji, Owner of Linda Ikeji Blog Broadcast got a Special Recognition. The Entrepreneur of the Decade award went to Mr. Ufot Udeme, CEO, SO&U Saatchi and Saatchi Limited while Miss Efe Imiren, PM, Service Forts Resources Limited went home with the SADC Alumni Enterprise Award and Jumia.com was crowned with the Innovative Business of the Year award.

Air Nigeria: I was never arrested by FIRS, says Jimoh Ibrahim
•‘NICON Group sold airline’s shares in 2012’
The Group Managing Director of Energy Group of Companies, Mr Jimoh Ibrahim, has denied reports that he was arrested and detained by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) over N6.8 billion Air Nigeria allegedly owed it.
He described the report as wicked, concocted and sheer imagination of the writer.
Ibrahim, in a statement yesterday after the story went viral online, said the story, published by Sahara Report, was borne out of mischief and aimed at tarnishing his image.
The businessman said he would have ignored the report but for need to put the record straight.
He said: “Our company, the NICON Group, purchased 48 per cent shares of Air Nigeria sometime in 2010 and the FIRS came with alleged tax liabilities for the period of 2006 to 2010.
“They claimed that he who buys assets buys the liabilities of the company. That was in 2012. We requested for reconciliation of the taxes, which was not conclusive.
“We closed down the airline and sold our shares to a commercial bank in Nigeria. Rather than pursue the new owner for the taxes, the FIRS instituted a civil suit against me at the Federal High Court.
“Whereas the same law of ‘who buys the assets, buys the liabilities’ should apply. This is why the FIRS should pursue the liability of Air Nigeria with the new owners.”
On his encounter with officials of the FIRS, Ibrahim said: “…The FIRS’ Enforcement Unit yesterday solicited my assistance about the new buyer. I opted to give them the full details and documents.
“Before I finished doing that, I read in Sahara Reporters that I had been arrested and detained for N6.8 billion fraud, which is not true.”
The businessman explained that before he gave the FIRS the details of the new owners of Air Nigeria, the agency had alleged that Air Nigeria procured tax papers in 2010 for expatriates.
“But I asked them how that concerned a board chairman. I asked them to ask the Executive Director (Finance), John Nnorom, whose responsibility falls under that.
“We are genuine business people and we need a proper environment to operate our business. If I have committed any offence in becoming a non-executive chairman of a company like Air Nigeria where I do not have personal share, charge me to court and wait for the judgment of the court. If an officer of a corporation committed an offence, such as forgery of tax papers and it is true, look for the officer and charge him to court, not the board chairman of the corporation,” Jimoh added.
