  • Job seeker charged with defiling girl, 13

    An unemployed man, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja High Court for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.

    Solomon James, who has been in prison since January last year, is facing a one-count charge of defilement.

    According to the prosecutor, T.A Adeye, the teenager was sent by her mother to buy sugar on January 5, 2016.

    Solomon allegedly met her on the road and lured her into an abandoned barber’s shop and defiled her.

    Adeye said four witnesses were ready to testify against the defendant.

    Solomon pleaded not guilty.

    Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya remanded the defendant in prison and adjourned till October 17.

    Job seeker ‘steals’ firm’s laptop

    An applicant, Ogbole Godwin Monday, was yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a HP laptop from the company he went to seek a cleaner’s job.

    Monday, 32, was arraigned before Mrs F. M. Dailey on a four-count charge of unlawful entry,stealing, assault and breach of peace.

    Prosecuting Police Corporal Chinedu Njoku said the defendant committed the offence on June 16 between 2:02 and2:05pm at Eko Pearls Nigeria Limited on Ahmadu Bello Way on VictoriaIsland, Lagos.

    He said Monday was allowed into the firm for an interview for acleaning position and was asked to wait in the Project Manager’soffice.

    While waiting for the interviewer, the defendant allegedly took thelaptop, valued at N140,000, and tried to leave the building.

    The court also heard that Monday “unlawfully assaulted one Eberiky Clement Joseph, the security guard on duty by using a Halogen belt toflog him on his back as he tried to prevent you from escaping with thestolen laptop.”

    The defendant’s conduct, the prosecutor further alleged, caused abreach of the peace.

    The offenceis punishable under Sections 166(d), 171, 285 and 306 of the Criminal Lawof Lagos State, 2011.

    Monday pleaded not guilty.

    Magistrate Dalley granted him N10,000 bail, with two sureties in the like sum.

    The case was adjourned till today.

  • Job seeker ‘defiles’ neighbour’s daughters

    An unemployed man, Chuks Isaac, has been accused of defiling his neighbour’s two daughters.

    Isaac, who lives in the same compound with his victims on Shonola Street in Aguda, Ogba, Lagos defiled the girls, ages 8 and 11.

    “He usually calls them with the pretence of sending them on errands and then carries out his evil act. The victims’ mothers got to know after one of them fell sick and confessed. The accused was then apprehended,” prosecuting police Corporal Zainab Amedu told an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, yesterday, where the accused was arraigned.

    He pleaded not guilty.

    Amedu said the offence was committed in October at the accused residence.

    She said the offence contravened Sections 137 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

    Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias ordered that the accused be remanded at Kirikiri Prisons, till February 3, pending the hearing of his bail application.

     

  • Body of missing female job seeker found in suspected ritualists’ den

    The search for a missing 23-year-old job seeker, Miss Precious Kessington Omorodion, has ended on a tragic note with  the discovery of her decomposing  body in  a suspected ritualists’ den in Ota,Ogun State.

    Her remains were found by policemen in the den located at  Unity and Peace Estate on the  Itele-Lafenwa Road, Ota,18 days after her disappeareance.

    But the police succeeded in  rescuing a 28-year old woman from the uncompleted building  during a May 6,2015 operation.

    Also recovered at the scene by the police were some of Precious’  belongings including phones, bags and other women accessories .

    The Nation had published the strange disappearance of Precious while returning from a visit to her cousin in Ilishan-Remo ,Ogun  State on April 19, 2015.

    She was allegedly abducted by one Mayowa, who promised to get her a job.

    It was  learnt that Mayowa  had first met Precious at Meiran, Alagbado,a suburb of  Lagos and asked her out.

    Precious ,sources said,turned down Mayowa’s request for a relationship because her priority was securing employment.

    Soon after Precious’  disappearance, her twin sister, Constance, in an interview feared she might have been kidnapped by  Mayowa.

    Constance said: “She travelled to Ilishan-Remo to see one of our cousins on Easter Sunday, from where she told me on phone that Mayowa asked her to attend an employment interview with an Apapa-based manufacturing outfit where he works. Three days later, she informed me that she would be returning home on April 19, 2015.

    “On the day she promised to return, she informed me that she had reached Berger Bus stop on the  Lagos-Ibadan expressway. A few minutes later, she sent me a message on Whatsapp that she was at Lafenwa area of Ota, Ogun State.

    “She later sent me another text message saying that she was on her way to Spain. From then on, she was no longer reachable as her three phone numbers were switched off. I fear she might have been kidnapped by Mayowa because our cousin, who she visited at Ilishan-Remo, said she overheard my sister asking the said Mayowa on phone to pick her up at Berger bus stop.”

    Some  residents of Itele community, who spoke with our correspondent, were shocked at the location of the ritualists den in the area.

    They could not believe that that such a heinous activity had been going on in the area.

    It was learnt that the police have  arrested the owner of the building while the suspected kidnappers and ritualists are still on the run.

    Constance  confirmed on the phone the discovery of Precious’ body: “Yes, Precious is no more. Her body was found in a ritualists’ den at Itele, Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area. Her phones, bags were found at the scene and I have seen her body at the morgue in Abeokuta where it was deposited by the police.”

    Also confirming the story, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi said:”It is true that the body of the lady (Precious) was found in a suspected ritualists’ or kidnappers den at Itele and we are still on the case. The prime suspect (Mayowa) is at large and we are vcurrently on his trail.”
