Joe Igbokwe to presidential aspirants: Tinubu will lead till 2031

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has cautioned individuals eyeing the presidency in the upcoming 2027 general elections to shelve their ambitions.

Igbokwe’s statement followed the rumours of an alliance between Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next election.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Igbokwe declared that Tinubu would remain in office until 2031, emphasizing the need for a second term to solidify his legacy and “set the records straight.”

He wrote: “If any presidential aspirant is dreaming of winning presidential elections in 2027, I will advise that candidate to perish the thought till 2031.

“PBAT is destined to remain in the seat of power till 2031. He needs eight years to set the records straight.”

  • Reactions trail Buhari’s comment on ballot box snatchers

President Muhammadu Buhari’s recommendation of maximum punishment for ballot box snatchers drew reactions from various quarters yesterday.

The President’s comment triggered arguments among senior lawyers with some pitching tent with the President.

They said that only those with the intent to snatch ballot boxes will be afraid of such remarks. Others felt that such directive, if carried out, would amount to extra-judicial killing.

House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara faulted the directive.

Dogara told reporters yesterday in Abuja that the President’s directive amounted to a call for extrajudicial killings of would be electoral offenders.

He said: “These statements clearly indicate that our democracy has become the victim of a full-blown dictatorship, when one considers that a democratically elected President would give a directive that is in clear violation of the laws of the land, which by his oath of office, he is to defend and protect.

“In view of this statement by the President, it is obvious that the military has been given a central role and coopted into the conduct of the election despite the fact that they have no constitutional role in our electoral process”.

Lagos lawyer Femi Falana said Buhari must have made the statement to scare riggers.

He said: “I want to believe that the President made the statement with a view to instil fear in the polluted minds of intended ballot snatchers. Without any attempt to support electoral offenders the act of snatching ballot boxes does not attract the death penalty. In fact it is a misdemeanor whose penalty is 24 months imprisonment by virtue of section 129(4) of the Electoral Act. “I plead with security officers not to risk their own lives by engaging in extrajudicial killing of ballot snatchers and other electoral offenders. It may interest President Buhari to know that due to the culture of impunity in the land the hundreds of electoral offenders including sponsors and perpetrators of politically motivated killings arrested by the police in the last six months have been let off the hook due to pressure from highly connected criminally minded members of the political class. I am tempted to call on the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN) to advise the President to withdraw the illegal directive as soon as possible because similar illegal orders of two former Presidents of had led to the brutal massacre of unarmed people in Odi, Bayelsa State (1999), Zaki Biam, Benue State (2001) and Gbaramotu, Delta State (2009),” he said.

Lawyer and human rights activist Monday Ubani hailed the Buhari’s directives.

He said the only way to ensure that the election would be free and fair is to have the ballot boxes and voters protected by security agents at the polling units.

Ubani cited the case of Abia State where he alleged that election results had been prepared for election that was postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).  “I travelled to my village in Abia last Saturday for the election. The party that wrote the election results has been threatening people not to come out this Saturday for voting if they love themselves. They have hired thugs from neighbouring states to disrupt the rescheduled election on Saturday. This is why I’m supporting the President’s directives that those involved in rigging should be severely dealt with. The Federal Government should massively deplored military and police to polling units”.

The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, said the directive was timely.

He said: “Election rigging is worse than robbery; it has become a way of life because since 1999 no one has been brought to book”.

Igbokwe said with this directive President Buhari would restore sanity to our electoral process. This is the kind of change I voted for.

But the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman in Lagos State, Taofik Gani, described the president’s directive as a panicky measure. He said the directive is capable of sending wrong signal to innocent voters who may decide not to come out to exercise their civic duties out of fear.

To him, armed security men should keep away from the polling units. Anyone found rigging should be arrested and prosecuted.

Southwest APC chieftain Ayo Afolabi said snatching the ballot is like snatching peoples’ hope and aspiration.

“For someone to go out of his way, to start snatching ballot boxes, amount to snatching the future of Nigerians. So, if the man snatching ballot boxes loses his life in the process, to hell with him,” he said.

Lagos State APC chieftain Lanre Razak said whoever “tries to disturb the process of election is trying to plunge the country into chaos and probably war”.

He said: “The President is not saying they should shoot them, but the punishment for people who are trying to plunge the only country we have into anarchy is severe punishment. The President is saying that the existing laws provide for punishment.”

Seyi Sowemimo SAN, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) and lawyer-activist Jiti Ogunye said it was wrong to see the president’s comments as a call to security forces to kill or harm innocent people.

But Sebastine Hon (SAN), Sylva Ogwemoh (SAN) and Abiodun Owonikoko (SAN) said the statement could be interpreted as a call to jungle justice and murder.

Sowemimo reasoned that the President was merely sending a strong message that electoral offences would no more be tolerated.

He said: “We should be charitable enough not to ascribe to the President that he wants to encourage security agents to kill people. I think with the postponement and the reasons given for the postponement, you can tell that it’s been a disappointment for everybody, including the president himself and maybe more so for him, because it may have appeared as if it is a failure on his administration.

“So, I think the man was trying to send a very strong message out there, that all these things that have militated against elections going on, like buildings being burnt down and all that.

“I think it’s just right that he should let people know that we really can’t afford to have any disruption in our plans anymore. So, I don’t think he’s asking them to murder people.”

He added: “The duty of the president is to enforce all laws in our country. That’s why they are the executive arm of the government. They are to enforce laws and to stop criminality in the land. So, he’s merely saying the obvious, that ‘I will enforce the law, I will punish the offender according to law’. So, what is unconstitutional about that?

“There are laws that prohibit crime, electoral offences and so on. So, if you contravene them, he is saying he will enforce the law. He is merely saying the obvious. What is his duty if he cannot say that? Then who else will do it? That’s executive function.”

Ogunye said there is a constitutional basis for killing an armed ballot box snatcher.

He said: “When a ballot box snatcher, armed with offensive weapons, including a gun, is shot dead by security agents, he has been brought to justice in accordance with the law.”

He referred to Section 33(2)(a-c) of the 1999 Constitution.

It says: “A person shall not be regarded as having been deprived of his life in contravention of this section, if he dies as a result of the use, to such extent and in such circumstances as are permitted by law, of such force as is reasonably necessary –

    “(a) for the defence of any person from unlawful violence or for the defence of property;

“(b) in order to effect a lawful arrest or to prevent the escape of a person lawfully detained; or

“(c) for the purpose of suppressing a riot, insurrection or mutiny.”

But Hon disagreed. He said the president’s order was “ultra vires his powers and is clearly unconstitutional.

“Section 33(1) of the 1999 Constitution has guaranteed right to life as a fundamental right, to be infringed upon only in execution a death sentence imposed by a court of law; or in suppression of a riot/insurrection; or when one is exercising his right of self defence. Snatching of ballot boxes or commission of electoral offences is not one of the exceptions or limitations of right to life.

“Mr. President’s order is, without any shred of doubt, unlawful, unconstitutional, null and void. Nobody should obey such an order. The international community, perhaps in hindsight, preempted the President, when it issued stern warnings against instigating, ordering or participating in violence during the election period.

“Let me quickly add that pronouncements like this further alienate Nigeria from the enlightened global community and regress us to the backward abyss of time. I advise the President to withdraw that directive without delay.”

For Ogwemoh, the comment was “sad”, coming from “the respected office of a President in a democracy.

“The President cannot be heard to be calling for violence or recourse to self-help in a country regulated by laws. Perhaps if the President had signed the new Electoral Act into law it would have taken care of the seeming frustration inherent in the statement. The point again must be made that no political office, no matter how high it may be, is worth the blood of any Nigerian.”

Owonikoko viewed the president’s language as being “not too suited for the occasion and time.”

He said: “As a charge for a battle ready fully mobilized army to be unleashed on an enemy of the state , the President would have scored a (five)-star.  To threaten voters who prove unruly or fall foul of electoral laws with ruthless treatment; or to be prepared to pay with their lives is a cynical euphemism for saying that they will be risking state sanctioned-extra-judicial death.”

  • Ahead 2019: Group seeks unity of Igbos for Buhari, Ambode’s re-election

A socio-political group, Igbo Vision in APC, says the only way forward for Igbos in Lagos state is to unite and support the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode in 2019.

The group made the declaration on Wednesday at its meeting in Lagos, organised to endorse President Buhari and Gov. Ambode for re-election in 2019 general elections.

Speaking at the event, Mr Joe Igbokwe, Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said that various Igbo groups in the state must unite in the interest of Igbos in Lagos.

“It is not about money, it is about our interest that we are fighting for. We should unite and showcase our strength. Based on our strength, we will be recognised.

“We need to make a statement with our votes. Gov. Ambode wants Igbos in one form, we must harmonise everybody.

“We need to have a single forum that will bear APC, either Igbo in APC or Ndigbo in APC that will accommodate everybody.

“We need to work with other Igbo groups and persons to get the strength we need to negotiate and change the equation.

“Igbo nation should know that if we need to be relevant in Nigeria politically, we need to join APC for us to have a President of Nigeria from Igbo extraction in shortest distance.

“We should queue behind Buhari in 2019,” he said.

He urged Igbos to play the politics by bringing everyone together across the country and stop hate speech and bigotry.

The publicity secretary quoted Buhari as saying that,“there is no reason why Igbo should not produce President in 2023”  and admonished all Igbos to “play reasonable politics.“

Igbokwe, who also admonished Igbos in Lagos not to approach 2019 general elections with a divided house, recalled that the Igbos were polarised during 2015 general elections.

He said that the division in the house affected the group in the scheme of things in Lagos APC.

According to him, the leadership of APC in the state, after 2015 election results, thought every Igbo man voted for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hence the distrust for Igbos thereafter.

Igbokwe commended the Executives of Igbos across all local government areas in Lagos state for standing behind the party in spite of the hard times the group went through after 2015 elections.

According to him, though there is no serious opposition in Lagos like it happened in 2015, the Igbos should not repeat the mistake they made in 2015 elections by voting against Ambode.

He reminded the Igbos in the state that “things have changed.“

“In Lagos, we need to showcase our strength by bringing everybody on board. The fight for supremacy is over.

“We are looking beyond peanuts, but on things that will help us and our children. Our votes must be noticed in numbers, we have a lot of work to do to be recognised.

” The number of Ndigbos in Lagos can no longer be ignored. We need to organise ourselves. “We don’t have any other place go than to remain in APC.

“We must play the politics. We need to be on the same page. We should not be spectators, it is a game of number, we have to go out and fight for votes.”

Also speaking, Chief Uche Dimgba, the Eze Ndigbo, Ikeja, said that there was need to sensitise Igbos on the need to unify and mobilise for Buhari and Ambode, to actualise the vision and aspirations of Igbos.

Dimgba, who said that the group still believed in APC, added that no effort would be spared to bring all aggrieved together to support Buhari and Ambode.

Mr Leo Obasi, the Organising Secretary of the group, said that there was a need for stronger Igbo organisations in Lagos APC for the benefits of Ndigbos.

Obasi, who noted that the Igbo leadership in Lagos were divided, urged them to consider the future of the Sout-East people in the state in all they did.

The meeting brought together Igbo leaders across the 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

  • ‘A vessel in the Lord’s Chosen vineyard goes home’

‘A vessel in the Lord’s Chosen vineyard goes home’

In this tribute entitled: “The story of my brother, John”, Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesman Joe Igbokwe recounts the live and times of his late brother, John Chukwudum Igbokwe. John will be buried today in Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State.

John Chukwudum Igbokwe was born on April 5, 1951 and he died on August 19, 2017 at the Crest Specialist Hospital in Awka, Anambra State. With simple arithmetic, that means he died at 66. God has promised us 70 years and if we are strong, we will gain additional years. John did not make it to 70 but we appreciate and glorify God that he lived an eventful life and served God till the end, even with the pains of ill-health.

John started his early education in the late 50s and finished his primary education before the Nigeria Biafra war started in 1967. Like every one of us in the family, nobody went to school during the three years of civil war from 1967 to 1970 when the war ended.

John was admitted into Okongwu Memorial Grammar School (OMGS), Nnewi in 1971 and graduated in 1974 with Division Two. Every attempt was made for John to further his education up to the university, but the devastation of the civil war rendered every step nugatory. Every contact was made to get just anybody to sponsor him but all failed.

In 1975 or thereabout, he contacted his brother and classmate, the late Prince Sunny Nwafor Obi, who invited him to join in the auto spare parts business in Warri. Ambassador David Obi, a vessel of God and a good man who worked with Shell Petroleum helped him to register his business name – Progressive Organisation Trading Stores (POTS) International.

Our senior brother, Godwin Nwakaeze Igbokwe, Omeifeukwu brought in some money. This business became an instant success and our family began to stabilise financially. His instant success in business touched everyone in the family. I was lifted up in school at OMGS Nnewi by this great success. His home in Warri became a destination for everybody in the family. John, being a kind-hearted man, accommodated all and sundry. He loved all and provided for all. He took over the payment of my school fees from my cousin, Mr. Chris Ulasi. John wiped away tears from my late mother, gave us food, shelter and clothing. He lived and worked for all of us.

John worked with my junior brother, Eze Igbokwe, to train me up to the university level. That singular move and coordinated synergy changed the story of all of us for the better. John’s effort brought an instant revolution that changed everything in the family and beyond.

In 2000 or thereabout, he suffered diabetic attack and his health suffered and the business suffered too. But, before then, God has moved us up to fill the vacuum, leaving no gap at all. Gradually his health began to go down. We started moving from one hospital to another. Hospitals became his second home and we left no stone unturned to fight the ailment. At Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, his right leg was nearly chopped off as a result of diabetic sore but John, through faith in Christ resisted it and it healed. John walked on his two legs until he passed on.

In the midst of all these, John met Christ and his life and that of his friends, family members were never the same again. He became the prayer warrior for the family, me and others. He found solace in the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement and became a firebrand and an elder.

He led so many to Christ. He denounced anything and everything that will not give glory to God. He talked Christ; he walked Christ; he preached and lived for Christ in actions and in deeds. Nothing else mattered to him. His commitment to God was total and absolute. It is either you are for Christ or nothing. He sacrificed all to live for Christ and I saw it all. John became my backbone and pillar through prayers. He prayed for me, my siblings and family out of trouble.

John lived an eventful life and was a blessing to all of us in the family. Hours on end, John, in poor health, followed the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement to any crusade across Nigeria. He was a devoted follower and committed Christian. As his health was deteriorating gradually, John became more vigorous and forceful in serving God. Gradually, his systems started going down from kidney to heart.

On Saturday, August 19, 2017, God took His vessel away to be with Him in paradise. I have no doubt that he made heaven.

I want to appreciate the leaders of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, my good friend Banaco, Anambra State Pastor, Liberty Pastor Mike, Pastor Benji, Pastor Eze Albert, Pastor Uzo Imoh, Bro Okonkwo, our Chosen MOPOL, Ihegboro Uche Princewel (our family member) and many others that time and space will not permit to recall here. They supported in cash and kind, they encouraged, they prayed, and they interceded for him.

I remember my sister Keziah…, she stood with John till the end. I remember Ambassador Obi who helped to shape John’s life. He spent money, time and energy to encourage John – their friendship lasted for close to 41 years. Only our God will bless Keziah, D C Obi and many others. I cannot forget John’s precious daughter, Ogochukwu, who gave it all to her father and my dearest sister, Chinwe, who saw it all and did the networking and many interventions for John.

John is survived by a wife and two children.

    Adieu John

  • My wish for Nigeria at 55 by Joe Igbokwe

My wish for Nigeria at 55 by Joe Igbokwe

Makeno mistake about it. There is a finger of God in the coming of President Muhammadu  Buhari at this critical moment in the nation’s history. After previous attempts in 2003, 2007, 2011, he eventually clinched the presidential slot on Saturday, March  28, 2015. Whoever is not deep in the knowledge of how God works, may not know the full meaning of President Buhari’s emergence at a time like this and what he is doing now. There was nothing the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its followers, with deep pockets did not do to stop him, but their efforts  were not enough to stop an idea whose time has come.

Those who did not follow the campaigns fully may not have known what the wreckers, the ruiners and destroyers of Nigeria did to stop him but the grace of God and the love of God for Nigeria stopped them. Huge amount of money in various currencies were deployed, mercenaries were hired to deploy the worst form of hate campaign ever known in the history of Nigeria, the instrumentality of the full weight of the Federal Government was fully deployed, the full weight of the security forces were fully and maximally deployed to stop President Buhari but God had other plans for Nigeria . Despite these onslaughts and desperation to change  the will of God for Nigeria, the will of God for Nigeria prevailed.

Since Buhari came to power, I have seen a lot of deep changes which  the ordinary eye may not see. The fear of President Buhari is now the beginning of wisdom. Yes, they have stolen enough for the real owners to notice, but they have not stolen the brains and ideas of the people. With brains and ideas, Nigerians can now  begin the process of rebuilding the country. Ideas, people say, are better than money and top positions.

It is historic and prophetic that new ministers will be coming into the saddle when Nigeria clock’s 55 on October 1 2015. My late father once told me that you will never get up unless you have fallen down. I have an idea of the kind of people that will make the ministers list in a Buhari-led government and I know that 70 per cent of them know that we have to build Nigeria now or never. We have the political will to recover every stolen cash and use it effectively to rebuild our dilapidated infrastructure, create job opportunities,  rebuild our institutions, feed our teeming population and provide maximum security for all. This is not the time to eat but time to work and work for the good of the commonwealth.

The incoming ministers must know that it is no longer business as usual. President Buhari has a mission and time is not on his side. It therefore behoves on all of them to key into the man’s vision of zero tolerance on corruption and indiscipline. They have no choice. Nigeria has gone full cycle in stupidity and selfishness and this is the time to build or we all perish.

Nigeria at 55 with Muhammadu Buhari as President provides a new window for all of us to sit up and be smart in re-ordering the way we do things. The massive flow of refugees from Libya, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Africa into Europe should be food for thought for the leaders. Boko Haram insurgents, MASSOB and Niger Delta militants remain a big challenge to all. We must rise above ethnic sentiments in order to confront these threats and build the Nigeria of our dream. Diversity remains our greatest assets and should we bungle it as a result of greed, selfishness, ethnic preoccupation and political irresponsibility, woe betide us.

President Buhari’s team should be our first eleven for the first time in 55 years and we demand nothing less. I pity any minister who will mess up  when the need is greatest. I pity any minister who will go there to think it is still business as usual. I pity any minister who will go into public office to betray the President and the country. This is our chance to prove to the world that we did not go to school to learn how to accumulate what we do not need. This is not the time to stand and stare. This is not the time for bedtime stories and frivolities. This is the time for us to free ourselves from primitive accumulation of wealth to service delivery. This is the time to grow up. This is my wish for Nigeria at 55.

    Lagos APC welcomes delegates

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has said the party has the solutions to the nation’s problems. It welcomed delegates and supporters to the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, for today’s presidential primaries.

The party’s spokesman, Joe Igbokwe, in a statement yesterday, said: “Lagos is pleased to host such historical event that will certainly feature in the annals of Nigeria’s history for decades to come.

“We are glad that Lagos, the oasis of hope in the midst of the monumental wreckage and misrule the country has faced this last 16 years, is being called upon to play a strategic role in the rescue of Nigeria from mindless leadership.

“We see the APC presidential primaries as the start of the project of rescuing the country from corrupt and inept governance next year. We see the presidential primaries as the grand finale to the APC’s march for change and the laudable and peaceful conduct of primaries for all elective offices, which had disappointed doomsayers.

“We are glad that by its stellar primaries, the APC has served the final notice to those who invested in a continuation of the regime of rot in Nigeria.

“We are glad to welcome heroic Nigerians to Lagos, the bed of progressivism, the centre of excellence and the waterloo of reactionary and unproductive leaders. We are glad to welcome Nigerians to Lagos; the oasis of hope in the midst of the sixteen years of gloom the PDP has sentenced Nigeria.”

  • APC: presidency is our target

    APC: presidency is our target

Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) is targeting five million registered members, its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Joe Igbokwe, has said.

The human rights activist and politician said that the target is possible, adding that the on-going sensitisation of party followers across the 587 councils will yield the desired result.

He said: “The race to 2015 has begun. Our target is the presidency. If you have been complaining of bad leadership, this is the time to join the vanguard of change by registering as a member of the APC and be prepared to vote and defend your vote. We are targeting between four and five million registered members in Lagos, out of the 25 million population. It is

Also, the Lagos State APC Membership Registration Committee (APCMRC) has described the registration as the first step in the party’s journey to future elections, urging party members to gird their loins.

A member of the committee, Mr. Ayo Afolabi, who spoke with our correspondent on the exercise, said that it has been hitch-free in the state. He said a senatorial committee has been set up by the party to effectively monitor the exercise and respond to the grievances of party members.

The party chieftain hailed the turnout in the metropolis, saying that it is excellent. He said, the turnout, which was beyond the party’s projection, underscored the readiness of the people for change at the centre next year.

Afolabi said: “We envisaged that we will have an average of 100 registered members per polling booth. But, we exceeded the projection. It shows that the APC is the party to beat, not only in Lagos State, but also in Nigeria”.

The politician also pointed out that the exercise has been smooth because the party anticipated many challenges and prepared ahead. He added: “The party made extensive preparations, in terms of logistics, planning, and other arrangements. Also, the national secretariat had envisaged many things that could have created problems. The impediments were removed. The registration is free; you only submit two passport photographs. The challenge here is the population and slow pace by the registration officers at the beginning, which have been surmounted”.

Afolabi said that Lagos APC would need more registration materials to cope with the soaring number of enthusiastic members. He hailed the atmosphere of peace in Lagos, which he said has been encouraging, stressing that thuggery, violence and disruption were absent.

Afolabi said that, although the party was targeting two million members, it raised the target to five million when people begun to troop out from the nooks and crannies of the mega city.

Stressing the importance of the registration, he said: “It is important for the party to know its members, to have their records, to get party members organised for its ward, local government and state congresses and convention.

He debunked the allegation by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the party disrupted school activities because it used the school premises for the exercise. The party chieftain said that, when Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) registered at a primary school in Surulere, his presence did not disturb the school activities because teachers and students were not aware of it.

Afolabi spoke on measures to forestall double registration, saying that the registration forms for individuals are coded in relation to their locations. He explained that, since each member will thumb-print after registration, double thumb-printing will not be tolerated by the computer. He said: “Double registration is nullified when the registration is codified”.

The party chieftain said that the registration is a continuous exercise, adding that, after the expiration of the first phase, there will be opportunities for those who are not part of the phase to register at the secretariat.

Igbokwe, who shed light on the significance of the exercise, said that it will enable the APC to know its strength and prepare better for future polls. He added: “It is important as a national party to know your strength. You must know your members. That would determine your strength. Our target is to register 25 million people across Nigeria. If you have 25 million people, you have the strength. Then, we will know where we are going”.

The Publicity Secretary applauded the enthusiasm of members who were on the long queue for the registration in the various centres. He noted that members endured the sun and long queues to register, stressing that the resilience underscored their loyalty to the party and readiness to work for its victory at the poll.

Igbokwe added: “The next stage is that we will now begin to prepare for the 2014 elections in Ekiti and Osun states and 2015. The registration is a continuous exercise. After this initial registration, members can still register. We are committed to this exercise. Voting is a game of numbers. Your members determine your strength. That is why we are convincing people to join the APC. Our target is the Presidency.

APC alerts Lagosians on training of hoodlums

    •FERMA denies new trainee scheme

Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned that any attempt to compromise the security of life and property enjoyed by Lagosians would be resisted by the government and residents.

The party gave the warning in view of the reported alleged training of some people by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) under the guise of policing federal roads in Lagos.

In a statement in Lagos by the Lagos State Interim Publicity Secretary of the APC, Joe Igbokwe, the party said neither the party nor Lagosians were fooled by the antics of those behind the training of youths in Lagos on the purported excuse of protecting the dilapidated federal roads.

It said government and Lagosians were ready to deal with the instigated mischief behind the training and would mobilise residents to resist any effort to compromise the peace and security by desperate politicians.

FERMA has described the ‘new FERMA trainees’ as a fraudulent scheme to deceive the public.

It said it has its operational offices in all states, but has no scheme going by that name.

The agency’s position was made in a statement by its management, which noted that the agency was forced to react, following the concerns raised by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola in an interview.

The governor raised concerns over the group, which he said he brought to the attention of the Minister of Works, who also said the ministry had nothing to do with the group.
