    Hapoel Beer Sheva slaps 1m euros tag on John Ogu

    Nigeria international John Ogu has quickly settled into his new life at Hapoel Be’er Sheva, so much so that the club is thinking of extending his contract.
    The former Academica and Almeria man penned a 1 + 3 year deal with Hapoel Be’er Sheva this summer, but the club has retained the option of extending his contract at the end of every season.
    Having terminated his contract with Academica due to his poor playing opportunities, John Ogu arrived the Israeli vice – champions at zero – cost.
    Any club willing to sign the central midfielder before the end of the agreement binding him and Hapoel Be’er Sheva must be ready to meet his release clause of one million euros, Sports Walla has reported.
    John Ogu will earn $150,000 for the first 12 months of his contract with The Camels, excluding performance related variables.

    Nigeria international John Ogu was again impressive for his Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva on Tuesday when he emerged the man of the match in a 1-1 draw at table toppers Ironi Kiryat Shmona.

    Ogu scored his first goal last weekend for his team.

    “Thank God for the  1 point Today (Tuesday). Another Important Game on Saturday coming Up. Yalla Hapoel Beer Sheva,” Ogu wrote on Twitter.

    Hapoel Be’er Sheva are second with 22 points in 11 games, while Ironi Kiryat Shmona lead with 25 points in 11 points.

    Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu, scored his first goal for his Israeli premier league team Hapoel Be’er Sheva in a 4-0 thrashing of Olanrewaju Kayode’s Maccabi Netanya on Saturday, africanFootball.com reports.

    Ogu, who has been outstanding since joining Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the last summer transfer, scored his team’s third goal in the 58th minute.

    Hapoel Be’er Sheva now places second on the league table with 21 points from 10 games.

    Ogu has played for Drava Ptuj (Slovenia), Atletico Club de Portugal, Uniao de Leiria (Portugal), Almeria (Spain) and Academical De Coimbra (Portugal)

    Austin Ejide was in goal for Hapoel Be’er Sheva, while Olanrewaju Kayode featured for Maccabi Netanya.

    Ogu vows to return stronger

    John Ogu has expressed his disappointment at being left out of Nigeria’s 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup, but vowed to come back stronger and rallied support for the squad.
    The Academica midfielder appeared to have paid the price of irregular football with just eight appearances this season and was naturally disappointed by his exclusion, KickOffNigeria.com reports.
    “Gutted I didn’t make the preliminary squad,” Ogu posted on his Instagram handle. “Nigeria is blessed with a lot of players; we all can’t make the list. Every player wants to be at the World Cup.”
    Ogu expressed his appreciation to Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, who gave him his debut, and asked Nigerians to support the team.
    “I want to thank coach Keshi for the opportunities he gave me. I remain grateful for all. He made my dream come true as a player to serve my great nation which I’m always proud of.
    “Thanks everyone for your support. Let’s pray for the lads. Let’s support the team as much as we can because I believe in the manager and the squad selected.
    “We are family. I will come back stronger,” KickOffNigeria.com quoted the midfielder as saying in his Instagram.

    john Ogu Declares: I want to play for Arsenal

    Super Eagles attacking midfielder John Ogu has revealed to SportingLife that his sights are on a dream move to Arsenal FC in the English Premier League (EPL).

    According to him, The Gunners are a club he has loved from his youth. Ogu said: “It is my dream to play in the EPL, and God willing that may be possible in my next move.

    “Though I still have a contract with my present club Academica de Coimbra in Portugal, which will run till next year, after that I will be thinking of a possible move. I have my contact men working for me, and any time something concrete comes, they will let me know.

    “I love my present club because they have been very good to me, but that will not stop me from making a move when an offer comes, especially in the EPL.”

    He said that although it is relatively easy playing abroad, the need to overshadow the home players, continued to be a motivating force.

    Born in Lagos on April 20, 1988, Ogu began his career with Starlet FC, Lagos, and in 2005 he joined Fly Sport Academic. On 23 September 2006 he left Fly Sport Academic and signed for Slovenian First League club NK Drava Ptuj where he played for four seasons.

    In summer 2010, he moved to Atlético Clube de Portugal playing in Portuguese third tier, but after 6 months he moved to neighbouring Spain, joining UD Almería B.

    He moved back to Portugal in November 2011 to join Portuguese side U.D. Leiria. After U.D. Leiria’s relegation from the top flight, Ogu moved to Académica de Coimbra in July 2012 on a free transfer.

    Super Eagles invitation excites John Ogu

    Portugal-based midfielder, John Ogu, has said his invitation to the Super Eagles is a rear privilege which he would not allow to slip off.

    He praised the Stephen Keshi-led technical crew of the Super Eagles for inviting him to fight for place in the team.

    “There are over 2,000 Nigerians playing professional football in many parts of the world, therefore getting an invitation into the team shows that I’m among the privileged few,” he told our correspondent in a chat at the weekend.

    The player said he enjoyed the few minutes he played against Kenya in Calabar, and would hope to consolidate on that when he join the team in Germany on Wednesday.

    “I can’t wait to join the team in Germany on Wednesday. I’m fit now, the injury I sustained the last time is over. I’m looking forward to making a maximum impact in the team, especially during the return leg match against Kenya and the FIFA Confederation cup in Brazil.”

    He assured that Nigerians would soon appreciate his game.
