  • Three women docked over alleged N12.1m fraud

    The Police on Thursday arraigned three women in Abuja over alleged N12, 160, 000 fraud.

    The defendants, Sonitar Kingdom, Amaka Ejiofor and Comfort Bada, appeared before a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court.

    They are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, breach of trust, misappropriation and cheating.

    The Prosecutor, John Okpa, told the court that one Joseph Osuide reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Oct.2.

    Okpa said that the defendants conspired among themselves, acted in a fraudulent manner and deceived the complainant into entrusting N12, 160, 000 to them sometime in February.

    He said that the money was for business purposes, but the defendants misappropriated and converted it to their own use.

    According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 79, 312, 309 and 322 of the Penal Code.

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The Judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, granted them bail in the sum of N5 million each with one surety each in like sum.

    Mohammed adjourned the case until Nov. 26 for hearing.

  • Court arraigns Man over criminal breach of trust

    The police on Thursday arraigned one Innocent Chinwuba before a Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja over alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.

    The defendant of Area 1, Abuja is being tried on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

    The Prosecutor, John Okpa, told the court that one Dr. Bolarinwa Bolaji reported the matter at the Police Area Command, Life Camp,on Aug. 10.

    Okpa said the complainant sometime in May entrusted N215,000 to the defendant to do book finishing for him but unknowingly over paid him by N48,000.‎

    He said when the complainant went to collect the books, the defendant refused to give them to him.

    Okpa said that instead of refunding the N48,000 to Bolaji, the accused requested for additional N82,000 from the complainant.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Judge, Abdulwahab Mohammed, granted the defendant N200, 000 bail with one reliable surety in like sum.

    Mohammed said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the matter until Oct. 11 for hearing.

    Court docks dispatch riders for stealing N643,388

    Two men, Ebodo Daniel and Oga Joseph, were on Wednesday arraigned in Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court for allegedly swindling their employer of N643, 388.‎

    The defendants were docked on charges of joint act, criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and cheating.

    The prosecutor, Mr John Okpa, told the court that one Adisa Adeola of Lokogoma, Abuja, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Nov. 25, 2017.

    He said the complainant employed the defendants as dispatch riders with Konga.com to deliver parcels to customers and remit money to the company’s account.

    Okpa, however, said that Daniel dishonestly diverted the sum of N469, 708, to his personal use, while Joseph did the same with N173, 680.

    He said told the court that the offences contravened the provision of Sections 79, 311, 308 and 322 of the Penal Code.

    The defendants pleaded not guilty.

    ‎The defence counsel, Mr Anenin Enabosi, made a bail application for the defendants, assuring the court that reliable sureties would be provided if the bail was granted.‎

    ‎‎The judge, Mr Mohammed Marafa, granted Daniel bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties, who he ordered, must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

    Joseph got bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum, and the judge explained that Joseph’s bail condition was less because Daniel allegedly diverted more money.

    ‎He added that the sureties must produce means of livelihood and identification and adjourned the case until Jan. 18.

    Court jails man for stealing chickens

    A Kubwa Grade 1 Area Court on Thursday sentenced one Mudasir Mohammed (24) to six months jail for stealing seven chickens.

    The Judge, Mohammed Marafa, however, gave the convict an option of N30, 000 fine, warning him to desist from committing crime.

    Mohammed, who resides at Phase 2, Kubwa, Abuja, was convicted for criminal trespass and theft.

    The Prosecutor, John Okpa, told the court that Usman Abdullahi of Gado Nasko, Kubwa, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on Aug. 14.

    He said the convict criminally trespassed into the complainant’s farm and dishonestly stole seven chickens, valued at N14, 000.

    Okpa said that the accused was arrested while he attempted to escape, noting that the offence contravened Sections 342 and 287 of the Penal Code.

    Mohammed pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

    Nine men docked over alleged public nuisance, cult membership

    Nine men were on Thursday brought before a Grade 1 Area Court, Kubwa‎ in Abuja for allegedly causing public nuisance and disturbing public peace.

    The accused are Joel Oluwatobi, Rotimi Suleiman, Onyeka Okonkwo and Isaiah John.

    Others are Omoh John, Victor Chindo, Emmanuel Nebo, Godwin Chukwu and Tunde Jimoh‎.

    The defendants are facing three-count charge of criminal intimidation, disturbance of public peace and public nuisance.

    The Prosecutor, John Okpa, told the court that the defendants belonged to two different cult groups.

    Okpa said that the defendants were armed with axes and other dangerous weapons when they engaged in a fight.

    He said the defendants clashed at a public place in Chikakori area of Abuja, thereby undermining the security of residents and causing panic.

    According to him, the defendants also put residents of the area in a state of fear.

    The offences contravened Sections 397, 113 and 198 of the Penal Code.

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The Judge, Mohammed Marafa, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety each in like sum.

    Marafa said that the sureties must be public servants.

    He adjourned the case until Oct. 11 for hearing.
