  • Man arraigned for alleged assault

    A 25-year-old man, Agboola David, has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for alleged assault.

    The defendants were arraigned by the police on a count charge of assault before Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye.

    The police prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the Court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 20 at about 3:00pm in Isinbode Ekiti.

    Okunade alleged that the defendant fought with one Adeniran Adesola, by macheting him on the head which caused grevious harm on him.

    He said the offence committed contravened section 335 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

    The prosecutor asked the Court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and gather his witnesses.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty.

    The Counsel to the defendant, Mr Kayode Oluwasola, urged the Court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

    The Magistrate, Adegboye granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

    He adjourned the case until April 29.

     

  • Man docked over alleged fraud

    A 37-year-old man, Tope Olusanya, was on Tuesday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud.

    Olusanya whose address was not disclosed is facing a count charge of fraud.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometimes in April 2018 at about 10:30 am, in New Modern School area of Ado-Ekiti.

    Okunade said that the accused fraudulently obtained N300, 000 from one Racheal Balogun, on the pretext to dig a borehole for her, but failed to do so.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 421 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.

    Adegboye adjourned the case until February 15 for hearing.

  • Two men in court over cultism, possession of dangerous weapons

    Two men, Adeniran Adewale and Adeniyi Iyanu, was on Thursday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged cultism and possession of dangerous weapons.

    The accused, Adewale, 20 and Iyanu, 18, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of belonging to a secret cult and being in possession of dangerous weapons.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, said the accused committed the offences with one other still at large on Nov.12 at Olokemeji, Odo-Ado in Ado-Ekiti.

    Okunade said the accused confessed that they were members of a secret cult, “Aiye Confraternity’’.

    He said that the accused were found with 15 live cartridges and four cutlasses.The offences contravened Sections 64 and 430 (1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    Mr Emmanuel Sumonu, counsel to Adewale and Mr Peter Ogunkile, counsel to Iyanu, urged the court to grant their clients bail in liberal term.

    In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted each of the accused bail of N200, 000 with one surety each in like sum.

    The case was adjourned until Dec. 28.

  • Man in court over alleged possession of hemp

    A 30-year-old man, Fabamise Ademayowa, was on Wednesday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged possession of hemp.

    Ademayowa, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of possession of hemp.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 20 at Temidire Street in Oye-Ekiti.

    Okunade said that the accused was caught with 70 wraps of hemp.

    According to him, the offence contravened Section 5 of the Hemp Act.

    The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Mr Timi Omotosho, Counsel to the accused, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.

    In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted the accused bail of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.

    Adegboye adjourned the case until Dec. 21.

  • Man in court for alleged assault

    A 35-year-old man, Adekunle Shina, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting  one Emmanuel Oluwashina.

    Shina, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of assault.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 11, at about 9:00 p.m. at Oke-Age area of Ado-Ekiti.

    Okunade alleged that the accused bit the complainant on the ear while he was trying to settle a dispute between the accused and his wife.

    The offence contravened the provisions of ‎ Section 338 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

    Okunade urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assembly his witnesses.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    Counsel to the accused, Mr Emmanuel Sumonu, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Dec. 10.

  • Man remanded for ‘defiling’ own daughter

    An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday remanded a 57-year-old man, ‎Daramola Kehinde, in prison for allegedly raping his daughter.

    The accused of no fixed address is facing a charge of rape.

    The prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, told the Court that the accused committed the offence on August 10 in Iyin-Ekiti.

    He alleged that the accused raped and incest his 16-year-old daughter which cause her death.

    He said the offence contravened Section 31 (2) of Child Rights Law and Section 214 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

    The prosecutor urged the Court to remand the accused in prison pending legal advice from office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

    The plea of the accused was not taken.

    The Chief Magistrate Court, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, ordered the remand of the accused in prison and adjourned the case until November 2 for mention.

  • Father, Son remanded over alleged armed robbery

    An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Monday remanded Chidi Christian (22) and Okoye Christian (44)‎ in prison over alleged armed robbery and possession of firearm.

    The defendants, whose addresses were unknown, are facing a two-count charge of armed robbery and possession of firearm.

    The prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, told the Court that the defendants committed the offence on September 18 in Ado-Ekiti.

    He alleged that Chidi Christian went to Ekiti State University, Female hostel and robbed some students, Olaniyi Elizabeth, Olawunmi Olajumoke, Alagbe  Oyinkansola and Oginni Oluwatoyin of their money.

    Okunade also alleged that firearm was found in the possession of the father, Okoye Christian‎.

    He said the offences contravened Section 1 (2) (a) and (b) and Section 3 of Robbery and Firearm Special Provision Act 2004.

    The prosecutor urged the Court to remand the defendants in prison pending legal advice from office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

    The pleas of the defendants were not taken.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, ordered the remand of the defendants pending the issuance of legal advice.

    He adjourned the case until October 3 for mention.

  • Murder of commissioner in Ekiti : Two remanded in prison

    Two men, Tajudeen Bello and Luck Solomon who allegedly murdered Mr Bunmi Ojo, Commissioner in the Federal Character Commission, were on Monday in Ado Ekiti remanded in prison on the orders of an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The accused — Bello, 22, and Solomon, 32 — are facing a two-count charge of murder and membership of a cult.

    While arraigning the accused, Police Prosecutor Johnson Okunade told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 14 in the state capital.

    According to him, the duo conspired and murdered the politician, a personal assistant to a former governor of Ekiti, Mr Segun Oni.

    The prosecutor alleged that the accused were members of a secret society — Black Axe confraternity.

    The offences contravened Section 319 of Criminal Code and Section 4 (1) of the Secret Cults Abolition and Prohibition of Laws of Ekiti 2012.

    Okunade asked the court to remand the accused in prison pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    Mr Chris Omokhafe, counsel to the accused, applied for bail for them but was refused by the court.

    In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye remanded of the duo in prison and adjourned the case until Sept. 19 for the DPP’s advice.

  • Two arraigned for stealing phone, cash

    Two men, Oribamise Sunday, 26, and Kayode Abayomi, 26, have appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly stealing and receiving cell phone.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, said that the accused, whose addresses were not disclosed in Court, committed the offence on Jan. 15 at about 1600hrs, at Oke Bola area, in Ado-Ekiti.

    Okunade said that the accused, Oribamise Sunday, stole one Infinix Hot 5 Lite valued at N46,000, MTN, Glo and Airtel recharge cards valued at N40,000 and cash of N86,000 total valued N172,000 properties of Mr Ojo Michael.

    He said the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap.16 Vol.1 Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

    The prosecutor also alleged that the second defendant, Kayode Abayomi, unlawfully received the Infinix Hot 5 Lite from ‎Oribamise Sunday, knowing fully to be stolen.

    Okunade said the offence contravened Section 427 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

    He asked the Court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

    The defendants pleaded not guilty, and their counsel, Mr. Yemi Adebayo, urged the Court to grant the accused bail, promising it that
    they would not jump bail.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, in his ruling, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of ‎N100,000 with one responsible surety in like sum.

    He adjourned the case until June 13 for hearing.

  • Man docked for alleged assault on wife with hot semovita

    A 35-year-old man, Bawa Joshua, on Monday appeared in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly pouring hot semovita on his wife, Grace.

    The defendant had pleaded not guilty to a count charge of assault.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 7, at about 8:00 p.m., at Ayoomodara St.,  Ado-Ekiti.

    He said the defendant quarreled with the complainant, and in the process poured hot semovita on her, which caused her harm.

    He said that the offence contravened Section 415 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

    The prosecutor applied for adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.

    The defendant’s counsel, Mr Kayode Oyeyemi, urged the court to grant bail to his client, and promised that he would not jump bail.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adesoji Adegboye, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until June 15 for hearing.
