  • Ex-PDP Kwara governorship aspirant joins APC

A former Kwara State governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Babalola, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Babalola noted that he cannot be in the same party with Senate President Bukola Saraki.

He said: “I have defected with my supporters. I am involved in politics because I believe politics is about service to the people.

“With the return of Saraki and his loyalists, who led the state and its people into penury, poverty, anguish, hunger, oppression and retrogression, to the PDP, it is clear that I have to move with my supporters to a party that is more focused on people development.

“I find it difficult to be in the same party with the major actor who many believe plunged Kwara into the abyss. As a past aspirant and an electorate, I have decided to pitch my tent with APC.

“Our state, as it is now, needs liberation from years of deceit, oppression and primordial politics of ‘stomach infrastructure’ so that the people can be delivered from a people who have held them hostage, and put them in the shackles of poverty and underdevelopment for long.

“I believe the government plays significant role in advancing the well-being of the citizens, through the provision of infrastructure and amenities, human capital development and by engendering an environment that is conducive for business growth and expansion.

“The improper management of state resources by the ruling elite, especially the oligarchy of Senator Bukola Saraki, who ruled for eight years and still pilots the affairs of the state through cronies, has to end.

“The level of poverty and infrastructure decay in spite of the volume of the revenues that had accrued to the state over the years, both from the federation allocations and internally generated revenue, is what every well-meaning person should rise up and fight.

“I will continue to offer my services and resources for the emancipation of my people and for societal development.”

  • Ex-Lagos PDP gov aspirant joins APC

A former governorship aspirant in Lagos State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole, has left the party for All Progressives Congress (APC).

Olawale-Cole cited then ‘impressive performance’ of President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State as his reason for the defection.

He told  the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday  in Abuja that he has formally joined APC and registered at ward `A’ Onigbongbo, Ikeja, Lagos State.

He explained further that his defection was influenced by “infrastructural development, transparency in governance and accountability of Buhari and Ambode.”

“I have examined the way the country is going; and from my findings it appears to me that supporting Buhari is the best choice we have at the moment.

“After being a member of PDP for years and running for the governorship ticket of the party in 2007 in Lagos state, it was evident that the APC is different.

“From what the president is doing in the fight against corruption and the issue of transparency in governance via Treasury Single   Account and others, he must be encouraged by men of goodwill.

“I have been in government before as a Commissioner for Finance and later for Works and Transport, Lagos State, we can see what the APC is doing differently, this government has a chance in the area of probity and transparency”.

He, however, noted that “there are still some shady deals among government officials but once the leadership is upright, the followers will do same.”

Olawale-Cole said that the decision to pitch his tent with the APC took him two years, observing that the decision was taken after critical analyses of the situation of things in politics.

“I find it difficult to find anyone with equal standing in integrity, honesty and probity with Buhari.

“Of course, there are inadequacies, but with time, the president and his Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will give us a better tomorrow and protecting our common wealth,”he said.

  • Obanikoro dumps PDP, joins APC

    Obanikoro dumps PDP, joins APC

Former Minister of State for Defence, Chief Musiliu Obanikoro, yesterday returned to the fold of progressives.

He dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

There had been speculations of his formal declaration for the APC for months until it finally came to pass at a rally in Lagos.

Senator Gbenga Ashafa(Lagos East) was at the rally.

He wrote on his twitter handle: “I welcome my brother @MObanikoro back home to our great party @APCNigeria. The APC in Lagos is stronger and more united. APC!!!”

  • Jonathan’s ex-aide Niboro joins APC

A former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Ima Niboro, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Niboro was ushered into the party yesterday at his home in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Speaking with NAN, Niboro said: “My membership of the APC is true.”

The former Senior Special Assistant on Media to former President Goodluck Jonathan said his membership of the APC was meant to align Delta State with the government at the national level and to galvanise development.

He said: “It is not a sudden switch. I have had 18 months to study the situation as it concerned my ward, local government, community and even my state.

“I have to conclude that there is time for everything. This is the time for us in Delta State to link up with the Federal Government in order to bring development to our land.

“We cannot, at this critical point of our history, be left out of Federal Government’s development agenda.

There is no synergy between Delta and the Federal Government. We cannot achieve that synergy when we are working at cross-purposes.

“We must work together to achieve that synergy.”

Niboro, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, decried the level of infrastructure decay in Delta State.

He was formally received by APC stalwarts in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, where he hailed from.

  • Alao-Akala joins APC

    Alao-Akala joins APC

Former Oyo State Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alao- Akala was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) in the 2011 and 2015 elections. He lost to Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the two elections.

Speaking with The Nation last night, the former governor confirmed that he held the final meeting with leaders among his followers in his Bodija, Ibadan, home yesterday during which arrangement for formal joining was concluded.

He said he has agreed with all his followers that everyone should join APC in their wards across the state as from today.

“Things should be done properly. Members join party at the ward level. We have all agreed that everyone should go to their wards to join APC. So, I can confirm to you that my followers and I are now in APC.”

Asked when the official welcome ceremony would hold, Alao-Akala said the party leaders would plan it, adding that it may not hold until the new year.

The former governor has been attending some APC programmes in recent times just as LP lawmakers have been working with APC members in the House of Assembly.

Akala polled 184,111 votes to come third in the 2015 governorship election, trailing Senator Rashidi Ladoja of Accord who scored 254,520 votes. Ajimobi polled 327,310 to emerge the winner.

Akala is the most popular politician in Ogbomoso town which has a total of five local governments.

His defection to the APC in Oyo State would most possibly spell death of the opposition in the state.
