Magu: Court urged to disqualify Saraki, others from confirmation hearing

The Federal High Court in Abuja has been asked to disqualify Senate President, Bukola Saraki and 10 other Senators being prosecuted and investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from participating in the process leading to the confirmation of Ibarhim Magu as Chairman of the EFCC.

The request formed part of prayers contained in a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/102/2017 filed in Abuja on Monday by a lawyer, Raji Rasheed Oyewumi.

Other Senators named in the suit with Saraki, as defendants, include Godswill Akpabio, Jonah Jang, Aliyu Wammako, Stella Oduah, Theodore Orji, Rabiu Kwankwanso, Ahmed Sani, Danjuma Goje, Joshua Dariye and Adamu Abdullahi.

Also listed as defendants are the Clerk of the National Assembly, the Senate, the Attorney General of the Federation and Magu.

The plaintiff’s contention is to the effect that, since the Senators are either being tried or investigated for economic and financial crimes in various courts and tribunals by the EFCC under the leadership of Magu, he (Magu) will not be afforded fair

hearing by the Senate headed by Saraki.

Oyewumi stated, in a supporting affidavit, that Saraki exhibited bias against the confirmation of Magu when he (Saraki) failed to read the letter of the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, seeking the confirmation of Magu, on the floor of the Senate until July 14, 2016 even when he got the letter on June 17, 2016.

He said, in further manifestation of their bias and conflicting interest in the nomination of the 15th defendant (Magu) the 1st defendant (Saraki) together with 2nd to 11 defendants (other named Senators) did not consider the 15th defendant’s nomination until December 15, 2016 when they rejected Magu’s nomination six months after the letter was read on the floor.

The plaintiff said the Senators flouted the Senate Standing Orders when they acted on the letter by rejecting Magu’s nomination without first, referring Magu to the appropriate committee of the 13th defendant (Senate), an executive or closed session instead of an open session.

He added that unlike when he recused himself from the proceedings leading to the passage of the Bill for the amendment of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act on October 27, 2016, because of his ongoing prosecution at the CCT, Saraki failed to recuse himself when the Senate was considering the confirmation of Magu.

    Senator Godswill Akpabio

The plaintiff identified some of the cases against the Senators, which Magu and his EFCC are currently handling.

“The 1st defendant (Saraki) was investigated by the 15th defendant on an allegation of false declaration of assets which culminated in the 1ts defendant’s arraignment and ongoing prosecution at the CCT in charge No: CCT/ABJ/01/2015, and a prime prosecution witness in the trial, Michael Wetkas is an officer of the EFCC.

    [news_list display=”tag” tag=”Magu” count=”2″ show_more=”on”]

He said the 2nd defendant (Akpabio) was being investigated by the EFCC over the allegation of abuse of office, diversion of public funds and embezzlement in relation to a petition by a lawyer, Leo Ekpeyong.

The plaintiff said the 3rd defendant, (Jang) was being investigated by Magu’s EFCC for allegedly awarding various contracts running into several billions of naira without due process and allegedly diverting N2billion Small and medium Scale Enterprises loan given by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during his tenure.

The reliefs being sought by the plaintiffs are:

*A declaration that the 1st defendant is disqualified by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) from presiding over or participating in the deliberation, screening and voting on the nomination of the 15th defendant for the position of Chairman of the EFCC due to the apparent conflict of interest arising from the 15th defendant’s active role in his ongoing trial at the CCT.

*A declaration that the 2nd to 11th defendants are jointly and severally disqualified by the Constitution and the Senate Standing Order 2015 (as amended) from participating In the deliberation, screening and voting on the nomination of the 15th defendant for the position of Chairman of EFCC due to the apparent conflict of interest arising from their pending or ongoing cases of financial and economic crimes, given that the 15th defendant is coordinating and supervising the investigation into or prosecution for the said financial and economic crimes.

*A declaration that the 1st to 13th defendants jointly and severally violated the Senate Standing Order 2015 9as amended)n when they participated in the screening, deliberation and voting on the first or earlier nomination of the 15th defendant in the 13th defendant on the 15th day of December 2016 by not declaring their pecuniary interests in view of their pending or ongoing cases of financial and economic crimes, given that the 15th defendant is coordinating and supervising the investigation into or prosecution for the said financial and economic crimes.

    [news_list display=”tag” tag=”EFCC” orderby=”popular” count=”2″ show_more=”on”]

*A declaration that the first and earlier rejection of the nomination of the 15th defendant for the position of Chairman of EFCC on the 15th day of December 2016 without first referring the 15th defendant to the appropriate committee of the 13th defendant and at an executive or closed session instead of an open session, is illegal, null, void and of no effect whatsoever.

*A declaration that the 15th defendant is entitled to be accorded fair hearing by the 1st to the 13th defendant during screening, deliberation and voting in the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on his nomination for the position of Chairman of the EFCC.

*An order of injunction restraining the 1st defendant from presiding over or participating in the screening, deliberation or voting on the nomination of the 15th defendant for the position of Chairman of the EFCC.

*An order of injunction restraining the 2nd to 11th defendants from or participating in the screening, deliberation or voting on the nomination of the 15th defendant for the position of Chairman of the EFCC.

  • Jang sponsoring grazing reserve protests in Plateau – Lalong

Jang sponsoring grazing reserve protests in Plateau – Lalong

Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, on Friday accused his immediate past predecessor, Jonah Jang, of sponsoring street protests in the state against a non-existent plan to establish grazing reserves.

He made the accusation while speaking to State House correspondents after‎ meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to him, the anti-grazing reserves protests were futile as the relevant stakeholders had already agreed on ‎the establishment of cattle ranches in its place.

He explained that the ranches would be funded by the state and federal governments, while it would be open to all those who are interested in cattle rearing and not just for the Fulanis alone.

He said: “Well the protests were undertaken by few ethnic groups. We have done a lot of consultations from traditional rulers to religious leaders to youth organizations. They all accepted that we should adopt ranching in Plateau State. What they are protesting is grazing reserve but we are not talking about grazing reserves, what we are talking about is ranches. So those who attended the workshop knew what was done.

“This is the Presidency, let me say it and I’m going to publish it, the man who introduced it and is causing that confusion is Jonah Jang who incidentally was the person that introduced grazing reserves on the Plateau with a gazette in 2009. That is the gazette I am going to publish.

“If you said if we have to bring peace in Plateau State you have to introduce grazing reserves and grazing routes, why is he turning round again and instigating people against what is being done, and trying to give an impression that it is the President that is introducing it?

“It is not the President, it is an option to every state to key into the concept of grazing ranch.”

The governor said he has already set up a 14- man committee on ranches, which traditional rulers, religious leaders and the youth organizations have already adopted.

  • Jang, wife, others indicted for hoarding govt vehicles

Jang, wife, others indicted for hoarding govt vehicles

A committee set up by Plateau state governor Simon Lalong to recover government vehicles from past government officials have indicted the immediate past governor Jonah Jang, his wife Ngo Talatu Jang and their aids of illegally hoarding government vehicles.

The committee which was chaired by a former secretary to the state government Mr. Ezekiel Gomos said it has found out that the ex-governor and his wife are illegally in possession of 15 government vehicles.

The committee made its finding known while submitting its report to the state government in government house Jos Tuesday.

According to the committee, “the former governor and his wife were entitled to nine vehicles as approved by the state executive council, but government house records revealed that the former governor went away with 24 vehicles instead of 9.

Mr. Gomos said, “The extra 15 vehicles contravene state’s policy put in place by the former Governor. And when contacted, the former governor refused to return the 15 vehicles in his possession.

“We discovered that an atmosphere was created to give the impression that government vehicles were part of the entitlements of anyone working with the governor upon exit of office.

“This wrong belief encourages all manners of persons including personal aids and domestic helps go away with such vehicles. This was accentuated by the rash of approvals given by the former governor to such aides immediately it was clear that a new administration was coming into office.

Gomos further explained that the committee found that vehicles hoarded based on state council approval were 191 while vehicles hoarded based on the former governor’s executive fiat was 32 and vehicles taken away illegally without approval of the executive council were 24.

Gomos however said the committee had recovered 30 vehicles while 28 former officers had refused to return their vehicles on the grounds that they were approved from the former governor, a decision he says contravenes the state council decision.

The committee recommended that all appropriate court actions be taken by the state government to recover the vehicles.

While receiving the committee report on behalf of Governor Lalong, Secretary to the state government, Rufus Bature said, “Government wish to commend the committee for a job well done, we also want to assure the committee that their efforts in producing the report will not be in vain.

The SSG also assured people of the state that the APC led government will never allow those who looted government properties go scot free.

However, ex-gov Jang was not available for response, he was said to have travelled out of the country. But his media aid, Chris Gyang simply described the committee report as a product of hatred and blackmail.

He said, “It has become clear to us that the APC government have hatred for Senator Jang and are bent on doing anything to blackmail him. Senator Jang is out of the country at the moment; I will consult him and respond appropriately to the allegations in due course.”

  • ‘Jang never imposed anyone on us’

The Acting National President of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), Rwang  Dantong, has risen to the defence of Governor Jonah Jang.

He debunked allegations that the governor imposed anyone on the party in Plateau State.

Jang, according to Dantong, did not impose the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Gyang Pwajok, on the party as widely speculated.

He said: “We from Plateau North sat in our meeting and took note of the massive dividends of democracy provided by Governor Jang, who is a candidate of the zone.

“And we reasoned that since candidate from the zone who never had the opportunity to produce government for the state for over 30 years could perform better than all governors who came from other zones, it will be in the interest of the entire state to have another governor from the zone for the sake of continuity.

“We also consider the fact that, even if there is any zoning arrangement in the past, all the three zones have taken their turn and the zoning arrangement had gone round.

“Let the zoning start all over again from Plateau North to enable the state to consolidate the achievements recorded by Gov. Jang.”

He went on: “With this thinking, we from the Northern zone decided to approach Gov Jang and made our observation known to him.

“We told him why we wanted another governor from Plateau north. But Gov Jang asked us to go and present a name of a qualified candidate from the zone.

“But as a mark of respect for the governor, we returned to him and asked him to name someone he trusts and someone who can sustain his infrastructural development efforts.

“That was how Gov Jang suggested the name of Senator Gyang Pwajok, who the governor said, has been part of his administration.

“Apart from that we agreed with him that Senator Pwajok is an intelligent man who can deliver on the yearning and aspirations of Plateau people.

“So, we say without mincing words that Governor did not impose the man, it was based on our wish as a zone, we know we were going to contest with candidates of other zones, so we simply came out with our own best.”

“In the primaries of the party, candidates from all the zones contested the primaries and delegates of other zones decided to vote for candidate of Plateau North, Senator Pwajok.

  • ‘Northern Christians foresaw Boko Haram before 1960’

‘Northern Christians foresaw Boko Haram before 1960’

PLATEAU State Governor, Jonah Jang, has declared that the fear of minority Christians in the north during the build up to independence is already playing out.

He said: “The emergence of Boko Haram in the northern region and its terrorist acts were part of the fears expressed by the Christian minorities as far back as 1956.

“When Nigerians were discussing the possibility of independence with the colonial administrators before 1960, the northern minorities expressed fears that their rights will not be guaranteed in the hands of the northern Muslims.

“This is because the northern Muslims believed they are superior to any other religion in the country; they believed they are special, they believed political power was their exclusive rights, they believed political power was their inheritance.”

Jang spoke through the Secretary to Plateau State Government, Prof Shedrack Best, at the first consultative forum of Christians and political leaders of the region at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) headquarters in Jos.

The consultative forum which was organised by King David Generation Foundation was attended by Christian and political leaders from middle belt.

The governor said: “These fears of the northern Christians are exactly playing out at the moment in the name of insurgencies or terrorism being executed through Boko haram.

“Boko Haram came to prosecute Christian followers; they started from Jos, the political headquarters of the middle belt and centre of Christianity in the northern region and later spread their terror to other minority Christians in the north.

“Boko Haram came to terminate Christianity and Islamise Nigeria; they began by setting church ablaze, killing and maiming innocent Christians in the north.

“Now Christians have no rights to practice their religion in the region; minorities are now seen as inferior beings. That is exactly the fears of the minorities as far back as 1956; we are now living in reality of our fears.”

He added: “Now, the future of our children is no longer guaranteed in the region but we have no other place to go. We believe our God will fight for us and we will live to spread the principles of Christianity for sake of mankind.”

Jang urged Christian minorities to stick to prayers as their only weapon in times of challenges.

    Jang’s son sues Plateau Assembly

    •Senator defends governor

Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang’s son, Yakubu, has sued the House of Assembly to stop it from investigating allegations of financial misappropriation against his father and other state officials.

The House set up a committee to investigate the allegations.

A group, Plateau Patriotic Front, petitioned the House, alleging financial misconduct of over N20 billion.

A copy of the petition, obtained by The Nation, titled: “Allegation of gross misconduct against Governor Jonah David Jang of Plateau State” contains allegations of extra budgetary spending, misappropriation, inflated contract sum and unauthorised bank loans.

Yakubu, who is the Special Adviser on Special Duties, was mentioned in the petition.

In the suit, Yakubu is seeking to stop the House from investigating the allegations levelled against state officials, which include him.

He prayed the court to issue order of interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants (Speaker and members) from giving effect to the petition.

The aspect of the petition before the House is the part titled: “Yakubu Jang illegally operating an account in Zenith Bank”.

In the originating summons sent to the State High Court through his counsel, Yakubu wants the court to make a declaration by virtue of Section 128 (1)s of the 1999 Constitution that the defendants cannot validly inquire into deliberate or debate on matters relating to his conduct without a resolution of the House published in its journal or in the official gazette of the state government.

The younger Jang also urged the court to declare that the House of Assembly cannot entertain, hear, consider or debate a petition addressed, filed, and presented by a person who is not an elected member of the State House of Assembly.

The special adviser is also seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, “whether by themselves, their members, their agents, privies or assigns or any other person acting through them or however from giving effect to or acting on or upon any petition except in compliance with the Rules of the House of Assembly, 2008 (as amended) and the 1999 Constitution”.

The Senator representing Plateau North, Gyang Nyam Pwajok, has described the allegation against Jang as falsehood, fictitious and unfounded.

He said the allegation was a calculated attempt to incite and mislead citizens.

He challenged the petitioners to defend their claims, saying the figures were concocted in order to stir up emotions and divert attention from critical issues.

Pwajok who is a member, Senate SURE-P committee, said: “I have said clearly that it is not possible for Plateau to get N50 billion from SURE-P.

“It is practically the imagination of those who want to manufacture and concocts figures in order to stir up emotions.

“On average of N218 million or N220 million per month accruable to a state and SURE-P started two years back, so definitely the amount will not be more than N5 billion.”

Sponsors of bombings, enemies of humanity – Jang

Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, has described sponsors of bomb attacks in the country as “enemies of humanity and democracy.”

“The sponsors of these attacks on humanity stand condemned now and in the hereafter. We must all mobilise to check the carnage,’’ Jang said on Wednesday in a statement signed by the state Director of Press Affairs, Mr. James Mannok.

Jang, who was reacting to the twin explosions that hit Terminus Market, Jos, on Tuesday afternoon, condemned the “headless destruction of lives and property by terror elements,” and urged the security agencies to fish out the attackers.

The governor, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, advised Nigerians to see the war against terrorism as a collective challenge that must be tackled collectively.

He said that government was assessing the situation and would take prompt actions thereafter.

  • ‘Girls’ abduction is extreme terrorism’

A cleric, Rev. Dachollom Datiri, has said the abduction of the over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State, is an extremely wicked form of terrorism.

Rev. Datiri, who is the President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), spoke yesterday in Jos, the Plateau State, when he opened the 84th general council meeting of the church.

The cleric was confident that Nigeria would survive the Boko Haram turbulence.

He said: “Nigeria is passing through a turbulent, trying period and I called on Christians, Muslims and every citizens of this nation to seek the face of God so that this dark night will turn to day.”

The cleric condoled with the families of Nyanya bombings.

He said: “My heart goes out to victims of the Nyanya bombings, the relations of the abducted school girls and others whose ordeals have not come the limelight”.

He hailed the Federal Government for trying to fight the Boko Haram insurgency but “called on President Jonathan Goodluck to do more, especially in the area of fishing out bad eggs from among the armed forces”.

Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, who was represented by Deputy Governor Ignatius Longjan, said the government would provide improved security.

  • Plateau politicians in cold war over 2015

Plateau politicians in cold war over 2015

Politics is in the air in Plateau State. Ahead of the next governorship election, politicians across the three zones are agitating for power shift? Which zone will produce Governor Jonah Jang’s successor? YUSUFU AMINU IDEGU examines the politics of zoning in the Northcentral state.

Next year’s governorship battle in Plateau State will be fought in two phases, considering the nature  of politics in the state. The first phase is the zonal politics. The three geo-political zones  – Plateau South, Plateau Central and Plateau North – have to compete among themselves for the slot.

That has been the style of politics in the state since 1979. It is “an unwritten political law” in Plateau State that the number one seat is filled by the zoning. That principle has been religiously followed for 14 years. However, politicians seem to be divided on that age-long arrangement. Some agree that, based on zoning, the three zones have enjoyed the slot. Others say the slot has not gone round the three zones.  Some want the process to start all over again. Others insist it should start anti-clockwise. Some even want the zoning to be discontinued so that the contest could be thrown open.

Observers have described the succesion battle  as a “cold war”. The prevailing political situation in the state is unprecedented. It is like sitting on a time bomb; if it is not diffused on time, it may explode.

The zonal politics is threatening to tear the state apart. A Jos political analyst, Professor Ahmed Zakari, said: “Plateau politicians are in serious dilemma; they have been in serious and intensive succession battle. The way and manner the prevailing cold war is resolved would determine the future of the state. It is a moment of decision. If care is not taken, that decision may mar Plateau State.

“The dullness on the political field now, I can tell you has to do with the cold war. Plateau politicians are in the political laboratory all these while; when they are done with their research, they will come out with the new found political theory that will shape the way forward,” said Prof Zakari.

Politicians in the state are in fierce succession battle over who will take over from Jang. Politicians from Plateau North, which produced Jang are claiming that all the three zones have produced one governor each beginning from 1979. They are said that the South produced the first two civilian governors: Chief Solomon Lar (1979-1983) and Sir Fidelis Tapgun (1992-1994). Then, in 1999, power shifted to Plateau Central, and Chief Joshua Dariye  served a two term of eight years, which terminated in 2007. The last zone in that arrangement is Plateau North, which produced Jang who would be completing his second term of eight years in 2015.

The Plateau North took the last turn in the original zoning arrangement. Now, politicians from the zone want it to go round again anti-clockwise.

The South has objected to this. Its leaders said that the zone is yet to produce a governor in this dispensation. Their argument is that Lar and Tapgun were governors in an earlier dispensation in the old Plateau State before Nasarawa State was carved out from it. They argue that since Nasarawa State was carved out of the state, Plateau South has not produced a governor. They maintained that the zone should be given a chance to produce the next governor.

However, the people of Plateau Central are also laying claim to the governorship. They pointed out that the major ethnic groups in the three zones have governed the state. The ethnic groups are the Tarok and the Goemai (Southern Zone), the Berom (Northern Zone). They said the only major ethnic group that is yet to enjoy the slot is the Angas of the Central Zone. They insist that although Dariye, who governed the state between 1999 and 2007, is from the Central Zone, he hails from a minority ethnic group. So, since the major tribes have taken their turns, they argue that the new zoning arrangement should start from their zone to give room for the Angas tribe to produce the next governor in 2015.

The governor is conscious of these agitations. But, he has been evasive.Jang has kept quiet on the succession battle. He has asked the people to wait until his successor is revealed by God. The governor told a gathering in Jos, the state capital, that the next governor will be ordained by God.

However, this has not doused the suspicion that Jang haa an aspirant in mind. Sources said that the governor is buying his time. In fact, some PDP chieftains have alleged that the governor was schemeing to retain the  slot in his zone. A group, the “Redemption Integrity Group” has challenged the governor to anoint a successor and risk the chance of his party at the poll. The spokesman of the group and former Commissioner for Information, Nuhu Gagara, said “Citizens should rise and reject any attempt by Jang to impose his successor on the people.” He said there is zoning,  which he benefited from, warning that any attempt to tamper with the arrangement  could lead to doom. “It is the turn of people of Plateau South to produce the next governor for the state,” Gagara said.

The people of Plateau South are working to get the slot. They have asked other zones to step down for a candidate from the zone. A group, the Plateau South Democratic Watch, is coordinating the agitation in the South. In a statement by its spokesman, Nimpai Dombin, the group said: “We will resist any attempt to deprive our zone the opportunity to produce the next governor.”

Dombin added: “The agitation by some individuals and interest groups to thwart the zoning of the governorship to deprive the South of its turn is not only in bad faith, but repugnant and unacceptable. If it were to be so, then, Plateau South Senatorial District would have been denied the governorship for 31 and half years.

“Equity and good conscience dictate that Plateau South Senatorial District is next in line to produce the next governor. Ee shall refuse, reject and repeal forthwith any further act designed to subsume and suppress us as a people under any guise whatsoever. We recognise that it is the prerogative of the political parties to decide where a governorship candidate should come from. Therefore, we call on them to beam their searchlight on Plateau South Senatorial District for their candidates for the 2015 election.

“Plateau South is blessed with human and material resources by God.  We shall, for the avoidance of doubt, put forward for the consideration of the people of Plateau State, experienced and quality sons and daughters from the district, knowing that the position of governor is not for all comers. We pledge our unalloyed loyalty to the high performing, dynamic and untiring efforts of the Governor of Plateau State,  Jonah David Jang, whose judgment and wisdom we trust”.

Observers contend that the South has a good case. But, power is not got on a platter of gold.

In the begining, the founding fathers of Plateau State from the Jos Division, Pankshin Division, Lowland Division and Wase sub-Native Authority agreed to cohabit in a state. They envisioned a state that would thrive in an atmosphere of brotherhood, equity and fairness.

The people of the Lowland Division and Wase Sub-native Authority, which is the Plateau South Senatorial District, comprising  Wase, Langtang North, Langtang South, Shendam, Qua’an Pan and Mikang Local Government Areas, agreed to be in the same state with Jos and Pankshin Divisions.

Reflecting on the agreement, Gagara said: “We willingly subscribed to the agreement to come together in good faith. The governorship

has rotated among the divisions, leaving the South in the cold. Lar and Tapgun, who are from this division were governors in the pre-1999 period, when Nasarawa State had not been carved out of Plateau State.

“The next equitable thing to do is to let Plateau South Senatorial District produce the next governor . If Plateau South is denied the chance to produce the next governor, it would have been denied for waited for 31 and a half years.

The former commissioner warned that, if the slot elude the district, the people will lose a sense of belonging.

Sources said that the agitation, based on zoning, has polarised the ruling party. Jang, they said, has been holding meetings regularly with leaders across the districts to douse the tension. But, the pressure on him to make a categorical statement has not abated.

Feelers from Jang camp suggest that the governor is being cautious on the sensitive issue. There are speculations that Jang is grooming his deputy,Ambassador Ignatius Longjan, who hails from Plateau South, to succeed him. But, some chieftains have doubted the move, saying that the governor is rooting for an aspirant from the North so that the district can retain the slot beyong 2015.

Apart from the deputy governor, there are other contenders. They include Sir Fidelis Tapgun, Dame Pauline Talen, John Alkali, an engineer,   Jimmy Cheto, also an engineer, Senator Victor Lar, and Prof. Longmas Wapmuk. They are from the South.

The three zones are locked in battle for the slot. Which zone will produce the next governor? Time will tell.

  • Mighty Jets hail Jang

    Mighty Jets hail Jang

The management of Mighty Jets FC of Jos on Monday praised Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State for uniting the people of the state through sports.

Jets made the commendation in a statement issued by its Media Officer, Ferdinand Mbum.

“The decision by the governor to particularly sponsor Mighty Jets, the 1972 Nigeria top-flight champions, had helped the club to be in contention for promotion to premier league. Mighty Jets are currently second on the log of the Nigerian National League (NNL) Group A, courtesy of the governor’s support,’’ it said.

The club in the statement congratulated Plateau United FC of Jos for winning the State Federation’s Cup.

It urged Plateau United and the runners-up Giwa FC also of Jos to work hard to represent Plateau well at the national finals.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Plateau United on Sunday defeated Giwa on penalties to lift the state version of the trophy.

Based on the Federation’s Cup tradition, both clubs that reached the state finals will represent the state at the national level.

NAN also reports that Mighty Jets had last Saturday lost 1-0 to Plateau United in the second semi-final of the Federation’s Cup.
