  • Blackout: Jos DisCo blames rain havoc on installations

    Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) has lamented the havoc caused by rainstorm in parts of Bauchi and other states covered by the company. The rainstorm, it said, has resulted in destruction of electric poles and blackout in some communities.

    The distribution company also laments the losses and inconveniences its customers suffer as a result of sudden cut in power supply.

    JEDC assured the affected states and communities that the company is working round the clock to replace the broken electric poles and installations with the aim of restoring power supply to its affected customers without delay.

     

  • Consumers commend Jos DisCo on metre recertification

    Community leaders in Plateau State have commended the Jos Electricity Distribution Plc over the transparent manner the meter testing and recertification by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) is being handled so far.

    The metre testing and recertification by NEMSA, according to a press statement issued by the Head, Corporate Communications, JED PLC, Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah, was predicated upon a dispute championed by members of Plateau State Coalition for Peace and Development. This led to the intervention of the State Government, which invited the agency (NEMSA), as an impartial umpire, to adjudicate into the matter by conducting the testing and recertification exercise transparently.

    The statement read: “Following the invitation, a four- man crew was dispatched by the agency from Metre Test Station (MTS) Kaduna, to Jos on the 3rd of May 2017. Upon arrival, the team, led to premises selected by the Coalition leadership in Rayfield, Zarmaganda Village, State and Federal low-cost housing estates in Jos, swung into action immediately, while representatives of other civil societies and COREN, Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, Security personnel, Plateau State Ministry of Water Resources and Energy observed the process.

    “At the end of the exercise, Elijah disclosed that 1,500 meters were agreed to be taken to Kaduna for further testing, out of which 660 were conveyed to Kaduna and the balance of 840 would be taken to Kaduna as soon as possible.

    Following the success of the exercise in Jos, an elated community leader who spoke on behalf of the coalition at Federal Low-cost, Dr. Edwin Rinkwat, said, “I want to appreciate the authorities of JED Plc. The agencies taking over are service providers, and there is a relationship – two way relationship between every consumer. We appreciate your openness this time around.”

    Dr. Rinkwat however admonished both the electricity company and members of the public not to view the current debacle from the prism of negativism, as according to him, “not every conflict is negative. Every conflict is based on interest and where divergent interest is involved, you are bound to conflict. I want to believe that at the end of the day, we will come out of this.”

  • Jos DISCO warns residents against sabotage

    The Managing Director of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) Alhaji Muhammed Modibo, has warned its customers in Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Benue states to desist forthwith from the act of tampering with power installations.The company has vowed to take legal action against any customer who engages in such act of vandalising its equipments.
    Alhaji Modibo, who gave the warning in a press conference held in his Jos office, said some residents have formed the habit of tampering with their metres so as to make use of electricity free. The Jos DISCO covers four state including Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe and Benue states respectively.
    However, the same people who complained of estimated billing are resisting us from installing the pre-paid metres. We are however surprised to discover that many residents do not want the meter installed and even in some cases, these meters are vandalised as soon as we install them.”

    Jos DISCO invests N210m to tackle metering challenges

    Aura Energy Limited, owners of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) said it has invested N210million to to address the challenges of inefficiencies in its billing process. This is arising from the need for more information technology (IT) infrastructure such as meter and billing platform.

    Its Executive Director (Operations Support),  Mr. Umar Bello, said transformer energy analyzers would be procured in order to determine and curb energy losses, while also improving efficiency in distribution of electricity.

    Head of Public Communications, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Chigbo Anichebe in a statement yesterday said the investment was part of the details of the company’s audit to ascertain the number of consumers within it’s coverage area.

    He said the BPE visited the company in continuation of its post-privatisation monitoring activities of the newly privatised PHCN successor companies.
