    Jos glows as international festival gallops-off

    Preparations are in top gear as Jos Polo Club comes alive ahead of the much anticipated 2024/2025 Jos International Polo Tournament that is billed to gallop off with fanfare from December 25 to  January 2, 2025 as the national polo season comes to grand finale

    Jos Polo President, Murtala Laushi who disclosed this in a phone chat from the Plateau State capital city, said the city said state revered as the “Home of Peace & Tourism”, is bracing for one of its grandest moments as all the tournament committees are working toward hosting the prestigious event. 

     “Jos 2023 polo festival will be a festival thriving on ‘strategy, organization, excitement, competition and friendship’ that would perpetuate the new found peace in the state,” Laushi assured.

    Four traditional cup categories with the President Cup, Governor’s Cup, NASCO Cup and Imani Cup. Handful of subsidiary prizes would be on offer and participating teams would be locked in eight days of fierce battle royals to decide the winners of the winter polo festival.

    Laushi who is also Secretary Nigerian Polo Federation (NPF) has assured polo enthusiasts and tourists that the club will host the best winter polo fiesta that will surpass previous editions in every respect in years.

    The proud Patron of Malcomines team told Polo Royals that every hand is on deck to deliver the most exciting  Jos polo festival with the full backing of the Plateau State government, NASCO and other corporate and  individual sponsors.

    We also note that for decades, Jos International Polo Tournament  has served as a platform for polo players to demonstrate their skills, agility, and teamwork. It also serves to promote the sport and foster camaraderie among players and spectators alike.

    The event promises an atmosphere of excitement, with thrilling matches held throughout the tournament. Alongside the fierce competition on the field, spectators can also indulge in the festive ambiance, enjoying delicious food, great music, and the overall vibrancy that accompanies the sport of polo.

    “Traditionally, the Jos polo tournament has over the years set a unique example as one of the most exciting polo events in the country and we have put together a package that would make the tournament the most exciting ever,” the Vice President of Jos Polo Club, Edward Fom and Secretary, Hassan Gashash both declared in separate chats.

    Polo Captain, Yusuf Dauda confirmed that teams from most of the major polo clubs across the country have indicated interest in jostling for top honours in the event this year.

    Top teams from Abuja, Minna, Kano, Zaria, Yola, Port Harcourt, Katsina, Kaduna, Bauchi, Sokoto, Maiduguri,  Gombe, Makurdi, Jalingo and Keffi are listed for action.

    Last year, the “Home of Peace & Tourism, Jos celebrated one of its grandest moments as polo patrons, players and dignitaries turned up in their droves to celebrate the noble game of kings, with home Boys, Jos Malcomines, Trappco, Nigerian Army and others standing out as the biggest winners of the week-long fiesta.
