“My father died this morning at around 10 m. I have just returned from the mortuary where we deposited his corpse. The family will meet to know what is going to happen next,” he told SportingLife.

Jossy lad was taken from a private hospital where he was receiving treatment to the emergency ward of the University College Hospital, (UCH) Ibadan in March when his health worsened and he suddenly began to gasp for breath.

After 27 days on admission at the Southwest ward 3 of the hospital, Jossy Lad was discharged after the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Temitope Alonge approved and certified him okay for release from the admission.

Two weeks later, however, his health suffered a setback and he was returned to the UCH by his family.

SportingLife gathered from a close relation that Jossy Lad was returned to his residence at Apata about a week ago with hopes high that funds to take him abroad would be raised. Unfortunately, he bade the world a final good night on Thursday.

Some of the early callers at his house yesterday were his friends and playmates Edward Ayoola, and Kayode Awobajo, a member of Ibadan Football Association.

Ladipo was a member of WNDC that later became IICC Shooting Stars. Jossy Lad, as former Captain, lifted Nigeria’s first continental trophy in 1976 when he led Shooting Stars to clinch the (now rested) African Cup Winners Cup.
