  • Man United release Herrera, Valencia, 12 others

Manchester United have released Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia while Juan Mata has been offered a new contract, the Premier League has confirmed.

Club captain Valencia and Herrera are two of 14 players released this summer. Herrera is expected to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

Mata is out of contract on June 30 but has not been officially released because he has an offer on the table. Sources have told ESPN FC that the Spain international is still in talks with the club.

As well as Herrera and Valencia, James Wilson, who scored twice on his senior debut as a teenager in 2014, will also leave Old Trafford this summer.

Millen Baars, Joshua Bohui, Zachary Dearnley, Callum Gribbin, DJ Buffonge, Regan Poole, Tom Sang, Tyrell Warren, Callum Whelan and Matty Willock have also been released along with United States international Matthew Olosunde.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Olosunde, who made his senior international debut last year, is hoping to extend his stay in Europe, preferably with another English club, rather than return to MLS.

  • Juan Mata to become Man U ambassador after retirement

Juan Mata is reportedly being lined up for a club representative role at Manchester United in the future – and the midfielder already has the classy car part of being an ambassador down perfectly.

The Spain international was spotted in Altrincham on Tuesday afternoon after having lunch with a friend.

Mata grinned at the camera as he got into his sleek Aston Martin DB9, priced at around £160,000

Mata may not be a Manchester United player for too much longer, with his contract set to expire this summer.

Mata remains in the first team picture at United, with 29 appearances and five goals this season, but his age means the club are unwilling to offer him more than a one-year playing deal.

However the 30-year-old, who has spent five and a half years at Old Trafford after being signed by David Moyes, is a popular and respected figure at the club.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are interested in having Mata return as a club ambassador when he retires from playing, even if he leaves on a free transfer this summer.

They say club officials have been impressed by Mata’s charity work of the pitch, setting up the Common Goal initiative.

Common Goal was founded by Mata in August 2017, and asks footballers to donate one per cent of their salaries to charitable organizations.

So far 80 managers and players from the world of football have signed up to Common Goal, and more than £1million has been raised.

  • Mata, de Gea cruise in Aston Martin to lunch date

Manchester United duo Juan Mata and David de Gea looked in good spirits after enjoying a late lunch with one-another early this week.

The two Spain internationals took part in United’s training session at Carrington in the morning before heading to Italian restaurant Piccolino in the nearby village of Hale.

Both players left in Aston Martins at 5pm. Mata was in his £140,000 DB9 and De Gea in his new £120,000 V8 Vantage.

They looked to have had fun as they were photographed laughing and joking

with each other outside the restaurant in the evening after their lunch before sharing a hug and heading their separate ways.

Both stars have every reason to be in high spirits, United having undergone somewhat of a renaissance since the departure of Jose Mourinho last month.

The Red Devils’ victory over Tottenham at Wembley on sunday means they have now won all of their first six matches’ caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Mata keen to extend long-term Manchester United stay

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is enjoying life at the club and says he is open to extending his four-year stay at Old Trafford.

The Spain international has made over 150 appearances for United since joining in 2014.

His contract expires next year though the club have the option to extend it until 2019.

“I‘m happy here. The club is massive, the support we have is massive. I’ve been settled down in the city since year one,” Mata, who has scored once in 13 appearances this season, told ESPN.

“I‘m 29 and hopefully I can play football for some more years. It would be great to play until I‘m 40 like Ryan Giggs. But that’s still a bit far, still 11 years.

“You never know what can happen in football and in life. But my feeling now is that I‘m happy here and I wouldn’t have any problem continuing here for more time.”

United, who are second in the Premier League, eight points behind Manchester City, host Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

Mata woos players launches operation 1% to charity

Manchester United attacking midfielder Juan Mata has called on professional players   across the globe to key into charity of touching lives even as he vowed on Friday to donate one percent of his salary to charity.

The Spain international, 29, has signed up to a scheme called Common Goal created by streetfootballworld, a group of 120 charities from 80 countries.

“What we’re trying to do is define a shared social agenda for football. Common Goal goes beyond individual brands and egos to deliver a greater impact,” Mata said.

“By making the pledge, we can form a lasting connection between football as a business and football as a tool for social change.”

Common Goal is aiming to assemble a ‘starting XI’ of players prepared to commit one percent of their earnings, with the ultimate aim of securing one percent of revenue from the entire football industry.

“One of the first lessons I learned in football is that it takes a team to win a game,” Mata added in an article on the Players’ Tribune website. “I urge my fellow players to get involved.”
