    Juliet Ibrahim plans autobiography

There are indications that Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim is set to tell her story in an autobiography. She gave this hint again when she posted a message on her Instagram account to inspire her followers this week.

“Just a quick pause as I look back at how far my God has brought me and how much He has blessed me,” the curvy mother of one wrote.

“A lot could have happened to me within and after 3 civil wars; living as a refugee, being the eldest in my family, taking on the responsibility to be there for them as a form of support/comfort after Dad had left and so on.

“In fact, I probably would have taken a whole different path altogether and I wouldn’t be the Juliet you all know today. I know so many women who are just like me, struggling with life challenges, with great ambitions and dreams, confused, scared, nowhere to turn, tempted, giving up, but I just want to say, you are NOT ALONE sister. Yes it’s hard to be the stronghold and the backbone of your loved ones/ everyone who looks up to you or to always hear people advice that you have to wait for God’s time and keep praying but trust me God sees all you do and He will reward you in His own time and with people who love you unconditionally”.

On the role her fans play as part of their family, she admonished; “Your loved ones are thankful for you and are lucky to have you. Don’t give up. The story of my life is and will be an inspiration to many out there. I think I should write a book about my life… Probably someday, but first I’ll need an extremely good writer to tell my story. Until then, I’ll keep doing the little I can through @julietibrahimfoundation to give back to society and support the needy as much as I can. After all I wasn’t put here just because but God has a reason hence I am in it to make a difference and leave a mark”.

  • JULIET IBRAHIM: Stop judging us on crashed marriages

Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim, who has been able to make a name for herself both home and abroad, has so many things going for her as an entertainer and I  find it extremely selfish for a man to meet a woman in a certain career path and ask her to quit, just to please him

TELL us, what brought about the concept behind the eye lashes?

Wearing eyelash extensions is one of the biggest beauty trends these days if you agree. It gives you that ‘wow’ factor because it accentuates your eyes, makes it appear sexier and brings out its beauty and when your eyes look beautiful, you look and feel gorgeous; basically boosting your self-confidence.

I get complimented on my look anytime I wear false eye lashes and people ask how they can get my look so that’s what led to the birth of Shades by Juliet Ibrahim. My lashes is quite different from the rest out there because they look almost 100% natural and curly that when worn it will hardly be noticeable that one is wearing falsies. I have 20 unique styles to suit every woman and they are affordable.

How long has it been in plan, and did you know it was going to sell this fast?

I executed it as soon as the thought came about and I knew it would sell because they are made with love and with the idea that I had to create various types to suit every lady out there who wants to wear lashes and still feel and appear like she isn’t putting on any at all.

Being a celebrity, how easy is it for you to have time for personal projects?

In the course of our business, one learns time management. You know how to allot time for whatsoever and you make it work.

    How is your Foundation faring?

With the help of my awesome team, we are getting by but there’s always room for improvement and we strive to get to our desired aim soon.

With such huge project that requires funds, how have you been managing the team that work with you?

Yes, you can say that again, we need funding to make the Foundation work the way it should but we aren’t there yet. Thankfully, the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation team understands this and we work together for a common purpose and we are able to do that successfully without looking out for or expecting monetary gain for ourselves.

With a good cause for humanitarian work, how did you feel when people lashed out at you, during the case of late OJB fund raising?

May God rest his soul in perfect peace. I’ll appreciate it if you please let it be. Thanks

Has that discouraged you from helping out on similar cases?

My NGO has been fully functional for seven years now and we still help out patients by raising funds the little way we can; we still create awareness, sensitise the general public about kidney diseases and other diseases in the world today. I was recently appointed World kidney cancer day Global Ambassador by the International kidney cancer coalition which is recognised worldwide. I am grateful to be the voice of the voiceless and hopeless suffering from deadly diseases and I’m devoted to creating as much awareness as I can; as our motto remains: “Early detection saves lives”

As an actor who comes to Nigeria often, do you pay duties for selling your goods here?

I have registered companies In Nigeria as well as business partners.

You have formed a very strong alliance with Nigerian actors; do you feel at home when you are here?

Absolutely! Nigeria is my second home and my colleagues here make me feel like one of their own, no discrimination whatsoever.

You featured in Tuface’s song, Diaspora Woman. Tell us about the experience?

It was an awesome experience, Tuface is an artiste I respect so much, so it was a privilege being featured in his video. I also love the song very much.

Being a singer yourself, how would you describe your success, in term of music?

If I was singing full time; I believe your question would have been posed differently “how did you become successful overnight?”  I am an entrepreneur; a business woman, an all-round entertainer. I am a jack of all trade.

You have also managed to keep your figure in shape, even after childbirth. Tell us the secret?

I take good care of my body. I eat well, exercise often; I try to stay fit by controlling my diet. I don’t take in sugar, I don’t eat late at night, I drink lots of water and I try to get adequate sleep.

What can you say are the challenges of being a mum?

There really aren’t any challenges so to say. It’s an interesting experience every woman would be lucky to experience. It has its up and downs but the downs aren’t that significant enough to call them challenges.

Tell us the challenges of being a producer?

Funding is the number one challenge especially if you double as the executive producer.

What is your take on people saying celebrities find it hard to stay in marriage?

It’s really not about celebrities; the reason why the focus is on celebrities is because they are in the limelight. A lot of regular folks have troubled marriages but people tend not to see that because they aren’t in the open. The question really should be ”why do people find it hard to stay in marriages these days?” But then again; you will never know why a marriage would end until you are put in the persons’ shoes. Till then; people should stop judging celebrities.

Tell us the brain behind Juliet Ibrahim celebrity football match?

If you mean the purpose of that initiative, then the ultimate goal is to support charitable beneficiaries as recognised by the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation. All proceeds made from such charity matches goes to the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation.

Being a physical activity; how were you able to convince others, especially your counterparts in Nigeria?

I honestly did not have to convince anyone. My Nigerian and Ghanaian counterparts were magnanimous enough to give up their time and put on their boots for a good cause which was to raise funds for critical needs of patients suffering from kidney-related ailments.

You are often seen in wears that show off your curves. How do you feel when people say you are showing off too much flesh?

I wear what I feel comfortable wearing, not what people feel comfortable with.

Aside your lashes presently being promoted, do you have other new projects on board?

I also have a lipstick line; under the name; Moda Cosmetics West Africa which is also selling in Ghana and Nigeria presently. I am also working on my reality TV show called “The Perfect Assistant “. I directed my first TV series which will be showing on terrestrial TV this year and it’s called “Every Woman Has a Story”. I am dropping a new song called “Keep your head up” featuring Iceberg Slim from Nigeria. And there’s a whole lot more work to be done as I’ll be hosting several big events around the world as well.

You have featured in both Yoruba and Hausa movie. How was the experience for a Ghanaian?

Out of the norm and very interesting. I would do it again and again. I can’t wait to act in an Igbo film as well.

What is happening to your reality TV show the Perfect Assistant?

It’s going to be out very soon, we are just working on a few modalities here and there.

Most Ghanaian movies are said to promote porn, what is you take on this?

Like I said in one interview, those kinds of movies are not movies from well-known producers. They are done by some new and money conscious producers.

Would you be willing to quit acting for the sake of your marriage?

I find it extremely selfish for a man to meet a woman in a certain career path and ask her to quit, just to please him.

A career woman will always stay a career woman. I don’t think you will ask Gabrielle Union this question if you had the opportunity to interview her, would you? Why should an African woman living in Africa stop her career, lose her focus and stop following her dream in entertainment because of marriage and its okay for a westernised woman to continue while married?

What are the things you want to be remembered for as a public figure?

Leaving a mark with everything I do for others and will achieve in my career. Just being an inspiration to so many is good enough for me.

  • GENERAL PYPE: MY RELATIONSHIP WITH JULIET IBRAHIM

GENERAL PYPE: MY RELATIONSHIP WITH JULIET IBRAHIM

He charged the Nigerian music scene in 2009 when he remixed the hit single, ‘Champion’ in which he featured the late Dagrin and other stars. Since then, not much has been heard from Olayiwola Ibrahim Majekodunmi aka General Pype. But in this interview with ADEWOYIN ADENIYI, the artiste who stole music lovers’ hearts with his Jamaican patois style of music speaks about his comeback, relationship with screen diva, Juliet Ibrahim and other issues.

YOU’VE been off the music scene for some time now, what has been happening to General Pype?

Over the years I have been putting Obalende Records together because anything without proper planning is never going to come out fine. So, I’ve been making some songs, recruiting a team that I work with because it’s pointless if you don’t have everybody in place.

How true are rumours that your former record label prevented you from releasing songs due to court injunctions?

There was no such court injunction and I didn’t have any restriction on recording or dropping songs. As a matter of fact, my relationship with the said record label wasn’t the issue because officially I wasn’t really signed to Storm Records. When I discovered that they didn’t even have any legal obligation to help my brand, I felt like, why were they putting my name up on their website and not doing anything to help me? I had to move on and go restart my career, having the mindset that if anything goes wrong, I will be the one to get the blames.

Why did it take you so long to return to the scene?

Over the years, I’ve been trying to drop a song or two, which takes us to the fact that without planning in place, everything is useless. So when I saw the reactions to the songs that I put out without promotion, I had to go back to the drawing board to rearrange my team and myself.

How do you plan to make a comeback especially as others seem to have picked up the baton?

Let’s get this straight; there is no way I ever get to compete with them. There is no competition at all. I can never be them and they will never be me and if there is anything like respect for those who deserves it, I am one of those pioneers in my generation to ever have the guts to want to sell reggae music to the Nigerian market. Them no worry me. General Pype is the magnificent seven stars general, nobody touch that.

Do you feel that your genre is getting the respect it deserves?

If I start comparisons like this, then there is no respect in it at all. I will never ever compare myself to Daddy Showkey or my Baba, Majek Fashek. He is a very close person to me and we talk once in a while with so much respect. Because this is what I do for a living, this is what I intend to build my whole Jubasticuline on so there should be a level of respect set aside. It’s like a blessing to me because imagine only me doing reggae in Nigeria; we might not have the chance to have like a reggae festival or a reggae show. So when we have people doing reggae, we can call four to ten names on the bill and we can have a real reggae event.

Don’t you feel threatened that Patoranking is making waves right now?

If you listened to me for the past two three minutes, you should understand what I’m saying. There is nothing like threat, no competition and no doubt in my heart. Moreover, entertainment is like legal drug money. Nobody is touching anybody’s money.

Why don’t reggae artistes collaborate with each other since reggae is about one love?

It depends on what angle we are looking at it from. Like in Jamaica, even the thieves in Jamaica have a union. When I dropped Champion then, the producer will not give the beat to only me, he will give it to every available dancehall reggae musician in town and he will be like don’t make it look like say that guy better pass you. You sef show your talent on the same beat.

There is this oneness of purpose in reggae music but if you hear this reggae artiste talking about one love and the other one talking about another thing there is no oneness in the whole thing. It is something I can’t control but over the years everybody that has shown interest in reggae, I have always shown them ultimate love.

You have a new single out there, All The Loving, where you featured Burna Boy and Phyno. How is the new single doing?

It’s just me trying to do a wicked home chattered dancehall package and luckily Burna and Phyno were present, so we all put our efforts together to make it happen.

    Is the video dropping soon?

    Yes pretty soon.

    How is Obalende records faring?

Obalende Records is doing fine. We are working with only General Pype right now because we have to successfully put General Pype out there before we talk about other artistes.

    Why the name Obalende?

Thank you for that. The fact that I do a crossover kind of music at some point in my life I might not be available or around this part of the world and whenever you hear my music and you see Obalende you don’t need to be told where General Pype is from. I just need something to show love and respect and to associate myself and stamp my neighborhood on the map.

Going back to the song that brought you fame, Champion, you had the likes of Sasha P, the late Da Grin and Vector who wasn’t well known then; will you say that song brought Vector to limelight?

I and vector were together since school days at Saint Gregorys College, Ikoyi. So, we’ve always been like that. When I sing and he raps it’s always like iron sharpens iron. Vector has got his own vibe. If some people recognised him or noticed him from Champion, fine, but I have never thought of it like, oh I brought Vector the limelight. I am even grateful for the fact that he came to show his vibe on my song.

What was your relationship with the late Dagrin?

I met Dagrin through Sheyman. Sheyman was like Aburo mi kan wa nibi to gbadun eh gan (My little brother is here who likes you so much). I was like oh my God, I can’t wait to meet the person. I sat outside and the moment he came in, I was like, waa na you be Dagrin? (Are you Dagrin?). He was like ah General baba blablabla.

Since that day till the time he passed he never called me General Pype. It was always Baba Baba and that day that we recorded Champion remix in Parkview estate, it was raining.

I remember vividly it was triple nine, 9th of September 2009. He came in that day. everybody was like, “ah who is going on this thing first.” but he said, “Baba se kinlo so ro?” (should I go and tell them). I was like, tell them why you’re different, tell them why you are great.

It’s like you really miss Dagrin…

I miss the guy a lot. I miss him so much.

What are the things you miss about him?

I just miss the fact that he was just so real. He was very real guy, forget all the whole entertainment illusions. Dagrin was a very humble guy, very kind and thoughtful. He used to come to a place in Victoria Island, where me and Vector used to do cover performances. Vector will do Jay Z cover songs and I will do Sean Paul and Dagrin will just come and sit there in the midst of the whole people and as soon as we get paid, I will be like, padi take something. Even though our pay wasn’t more than six thousand naira I will give him two thousand naira.

The most painful part of our relationship is the fact that when he was in the hospital, I was just waiting for the day that he will get out and I will slap him on the head and say why would you do such a thing but I didn’t get to do that. It was so painful.

A day before he died, I was supposed to see him at the hospital. I was supposed to go with my Ex who was a media person. She told me she’ll be going there because they had some media passes. But I said no, I don’t want to see him in that state, I want him to come home first which he never did. May his soul rest in peace.

Are you saying you regret the fact that you didn’t get to see him before his demise?

Yeah, like my dad will say, you don’t need to have billions for you to show love or show how generous you are. Your time, presence and kind messages alone will go a long way. I was waiting for him to return and I would visit him during the recovery process but I regret the fact that I didn’t go there to check on him.

Ever since Dagrin’s death and the arrival of Olamide, people have been comparing both rappers. Since you know both artistes on a personal level, do you think there is basis for comparison?

If you check the industry now, it is not only Olamide that is doing the Yoruba rap and making money off it. We have the likes of Reminisce. The time gap between Dagrin and Olamide wasn’t that much, so in my opinion not to smear the memory of my friend, it’s not like Olamide stole Dagrin’s rhyme book and he has been singing all this years, dropping great songs back to back. He is just a great artiste.

Dagrin opened the way. I believe that, if it wasn’t for people like Dagrin, Olamide might end up doing the Yankee style of rap. People like Dagrin gave birth to the rise of the likes of Phyno, Olamide and the rest but Olamide is a very talented guy which nobody can take that away.

You once featured on Juliet Ibrahim’s song, what’s your relationship with Juliet Ibrahim?

She’s just a kind, loving and sweet person and her personality is why I even wanted to listen to the song that she featured me on because you will be like ah all this actress sef and it wasn’t like I had any buzz in town then. It was just that she felt my person and vibe so she just called me up on that song which I’m grateful for.

It was also rumoured that you once dated Juliet Ibrahim…

Yes, from longtime but it never happened.

Maybe she’s not your taste or don’t you like light-skinned girls?

She’s a beautiful lady but trust me I’ve got my family and she’s got hers. The era that I met her then, there were lots of babes. It’s nice of her to be in the catalog of the people that I know and that knows me.

  • I’M NOT A LESBIAN–JULIET IBRAHIM

    I’M NOT A LESBIAN–JULIET IBRAHIM

POPULAR Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim has opined that she sees nothing wrong with a female who experiences romantic love or sexual attraction with other females.

The humanitarian of Lebanese, Liberian and Ghanaian descent in a recent chat with Ghanagist revealed that she has only kissed a lady once but has never slept with a woman in her life.

“I’m not a lesbian. You will be wondering why I’m saying this because people always think I’m a lesbian. I always get questions when I play movie roles and stuffs but I’ve only kissed a girl once and that was in a movie and that was because I had to play a role. I’ve never been with a lady before”.

She emphasized that “there is nothing wrong with it. You can do your thing if you like it, but I haven’t been with a girl before.”
