Jumoke Aderounmu wasn’t sick, she died in her sleep, says brother

Adeola Aderounmu, the brother of the late actress, Jumoke Aderounmu has shared more insight into the death of his sister and her relationship with actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele.

In an interview with Punch, he disclosed that he hadn’t attempted to contact Funke Akindele because he didn’t have her contact and wasn’t particularly close to her, despite that his sister had her number.

He added that despite his sister’s efforts to reach out, including sending Paschaline Alex, they were unsuccessful.

He said that Funke ceased offering job opportunities to his sister, prompting her to seek clarification on any perceived wrongdoing.

According to him, Adeola highlighted the support she received from only two colleagues, Rita Dominic, and Sotayo Gaga, during the challenging period.

Reflecting on his late sister, he portrayed her as an introvert who preferred solitude, adding that she had no history of illness but passed away peacefully in her sleep.

He further revealed how she was planning to relocate to the United Kingdom before her death.

Adeola added that she has since been buried but the family is planning to organise a tribute event in church on the 40th day after her death.

He said: “I did not reach out to Funke Akindele because I didn’t have her phone number and I am not close to her but my sister had her number and even sent another actress, Paschaline Alex to her, all to no avail. Funke stopped calling her for jobs and Jumoke tried to know why because she wanted to retrace her steps if she had committed any offence.

“Only two of her colleagues, Rita Dominic and Tayo Sobola came through for her in her time of need. She was an introvert and usually kept to herself. She was not sick. She just passed away in her sleep. She was planning on relocating to the United Kingdom before her demise. We have buried her but the family will organize a tribute event in church on the 40th day after her death.”

The Nation reported that Adeola had dragged Funke for abandoning his late sister.

Adeola further tackled Funke for publicly mourning her when she had abandoned his sister during her dying moments.

Calling her out over her fake love and hypocrisy, he revealed that his sister had put a call through to Funke several times and had reached out to her through her friends but she didn’t turn up for her.

Questioning why the eye service, he added that it is now she is dead, she was showing fake love.

He questioned the sincerity of Funke’s intention, adding that she was showing fake love after Adeola’s death.

Reacting to his claims, Funke addressed the issue during an Instagram Live session, tearfully expressing her struggles with the loss of her mother, marriage, and political involvement, as she tries to rebuild her life.

She refuted claims of neglecting the actress, saying that she only became aware of Jumoke’s illness through her brother’s post, emphasizing that she had no prior knowledge of the situation.

Yomi Fabiyi recounts how late Jumoke Aderounmu encouraged him

Recounting his last encounter with the deceased, Yomi disclosed that he was going through a tough time when she visited him at his Gbagada home and and encouraged him.

Yomi stated that it was the same time Sotayo Gaga and Eni Ayenfe reached out to him and he would never forget their visits.

He wrote: “Jumokeeee! The last time I saw you was when you came to visit when I used to live in Gbagada then.

“You saw my condition and told me to hang in there that it was a phase and I would come out stronger. Same time, @sotayogaga @eniayenfe_ot came and gave me some money to support me.

” I can never forget those visits and concerns. It gave me hope and fortified my survival instinct. Thank you, guys.

“Instagram, as in social media in general, the daily posts have killed many relationships. We have jettisoned the conventional friendship characteristics in the industry. Seeing a colleague’s post, liking, or commenting now means care, friendship, loyalty, keeping in touch, etc. Charade and total BS.

“Whereas there could be serious pain behind some beautiful posts. We are all guilty of this. Jummy, I never heard a thing, you didn’t reach out. On a normal day, and you know, except you place a caveat, I would have moved and rallied others, and maybe Calvary would have surfaced.

“So weak to post since. I just mustered this little courage to post. Oga, oh, RIP for you, Jumoke. Death, keep a big distance from my loved ones, please. RIP Jumoke Aderounmu. Sun re oh. If I write a sentence as your tribute, I know you will reject”.
