  • Cristiano Ronaldo is highest mega buck earner in Serie A

Cristiano Ronaldo is earning £28million-a-year in wages at Juventus after taxes, three times what Matthijs de Ligt gets as the second highest earner in Serie A, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Juventus’ new summer signing de Ligt takes home £7.2million-a-year plus bonuses, jumping up above the likes of Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain to take up his spot behind Ronaldo.

Third spot in the list is taken up by another Serie A newcomer, Romelu Lukaku, who is getting £6.7million-a-year plus bonuses after joining Inter Milan from Manchester United this summer.

Of course, Ronaldo earns far more than his wages due to his global status. Nike alone pays him £14.68m-a-year, and he will also receive performance-based bonuses.

Juventus understandably take up the bulk of the list of top earners, with nine of their players appearing in the top 10. Only Lukaku and Inter break that mould.

Juventus have won eight Serie A titles in a row, so can afford to spend big money on the players they need to keep their run going. They reportedly spend £264million-a-year on player wages.

Aaron Ramsey is another name they have brought in this year, with the Welshman on £6.3million-a-year since joining on a free transfer after his contract with Arsenal ended.

Yes! Happy Ronaldo reacts after a job well done

Adrien Rabiot joined from PSG this summer, and he too has broken into the top 10, earning the same as Ramsey plus bonuses.

With all these new arrivals, the likes of Dybala, Higuain, Miralem Pjanic, Douglas Costa, Mario Mandzukic, and Sami Khedira have all found themselves dropping down the list of best paid footballers in Italy.

Not far off the top 10 is AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who earns £5.4million-a-year, and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly earns the same.

    SERIE A TOP EARNERS

    1. Cristiano Ronaldo – £28m
    2. Matthijs de Ligt – £7.2m
    3. Romelu Lukaku – £6.7m
    4. Gonzalo Higuain – £6.7m
    5. Paulo Dybala – £6.5m
  • UNENDING RIVALRY: Why I am better than Messi- Ronaldo

It doesn’t really matter whether one is in Jerusalem or Judea, the rivalry between Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina forward Lionel Messi is not one that can end in a jiffy.

Both players boast of cabinets full of numerous awards from far and near. Their rivalry remains a talking point not only among stakeholders and soccer pundits alike but also among their teeming fans scattered across the globe.

But like the saying goes out of the abundant of the heart the mouth speaks, which perhaps explains why Ronaldo has finally submitted that he is better than Messi.

The Juventus forward gave his personal take on the eternal rivalry between them, stating that the difference between the record-breaking pair is that he has won the Champions League with more than one club.

The debate over who is better – either currently or indeed of all time – reached boiling point during the duo’s shared time in Spain, with Real Madrid and Barcelona fans at odds over which of the world-class stars should be named the best.

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates after netting for Juventus

A total of five Ballons d’Or each does little to help separate the attackers, but with Messi having spent his entire senior career at Barcelona, Ronaldo hinted that he perhaps puts himself ahead of the Argentine due to his ability to adapt to new surroundings.

“In the case of Messi, he is an excellent player,” Ronaldo said in DAZN’s series The Making Of.

“Not only for the Ballons d’Or he has won but for also being a player who was always at the top year after year, just like me.

“The difference with me is that I’ve played for different clubs and I also won the Champions League with different clubs.

“I was the top scorer in the Champions League six times in a row.”

Regardless, Ronaldo continues to harbour great respect for Messi, making it clear that sustained success over a ten-year period for both players should be appreciated for the huge amount of hard work that it takes to stay at the top.

“Obviously, I have not seen such a rivalry between two players at the top of the mountain for so many years,” the Portugal captain added.

  • Ronaldo to venture into coaching after retirement

Amidst debate among his fans that five time Ballon d Or winner and Juventus forward Cristian Ronaldo would settle for modeling all the way after football, the Portugal forward has hinted that he has a passion for coaching, declaring he might go into coaching when he finishes playing.

The 34-year-old is coming towards the end of his illustrious career in which he has won five Ballon d’Or trophies.

Ronaldo moved to Juventus in the summer from Real Madrid and has insisted coaching might be his next step

‘I’m not ruling it out,’ Ronaldo told ICON magazine, via AS.

‘You must be humble, learn that you don’t know everything. If you’re smart, you get little things that make you better as an athlete,’ Ronaldo said.

‘In Juve I adapted perfectly. They saw that there’s nothing false about me. He is Cristiano and he is what he is because he takes care of himself.

‘It is one thing to speak and another to do. Why did I win five Ballons d’Or and five Champions [Leagues]?’

Ronaldo was not able to lead the Italian giants to the Champions League final this campaign.

Juventus crashed out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, losing out to Dutch side Ajax.

Ronaldo has won the Serie A however and the Old Lady host Torino in a derby clash on Friday as they look to close out their season in style.

A die-hard lover of cars and fast moving machines, Ronaldo only recently acquired what has been dubbed one of the most expensive cars, a one-off Bugatti La Voiture Noire for €11million

The unique Bugatti was first presented to the world at the Geneva Motor Show 2019.

The French luxury company built only one of the prototype supercars and it is a tribute to the 110th anniversary of the founding of the company.

  • Ronaldo won’t leave Juventus, says Allegri

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has dismissed talk of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club in the wake of their Champions League elimination, confirming the 34-year-old will be in Turin still next season.

Ronaldo had played in the semifinals of the Champions League in each of the past nine seasons, but Juve’s quarterfinal defeat to Ajax meant he would not be getting his hands on the trophy this year, having triumphed with Real Madrid in the past three seasons.

Italian media reported his disappointment may lead him to seek a new club but Allegri said he is counting on the Portugal international moving forward.

“Ronaldo’s had a great season and he’ll play tomorrow,” Allegri said at a news conference in Turin on Friday.

“He’s the future of Juventus; an extraordinary player and he’ll have another great season next year.

“He’s calm and disappointed like we all are because we’re out of the Champions League, and we would have liked to have won it. But football is made of joy and sadness.”

Juve are expected to invest this summer in building a squad around Ronaldo which can challenge for the Champions League next term with Allegri adding that one player alone does not guarantee success.

“I always said that with the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, there was no mathematical assurance of winning the Champions League,” he said. “Football is not a science.

“What’s been written about Ronaldo confirms that his arrival at Juve did not guarantee us the Champions League.

“Look at Barcelona, who are back in the semifinals this year after four seasons and they’ve got [Lionel] Messi. There are lots of components to football.

“If we only win the league, it still means we’ve had a great season.”

The Old Lady need just one point to wrap up an eighth straight Serie A title and welcome Fiorentina to the Allianz Stadium on Saturday.

  • UCL: Ajax eliminate Juventus with scintillating display

Ajax Amsterdam followed up their elimination of Real Madrid by producing a spell-binding display of inventive, passing football to win 2-1 away to Juventus on Tuesday.

The win by Ajax ended the Serie A team’s dreams of winning the Champions League.

Ajax’s 19-year-old captain Matthijs de Ligt headed the winner from the corner in the 67th minute of the quarter-final second leg.

The Dutch side came from behind to clinch a 3-2 aggregate win and reach the last four for the first time since 1996/97.

Cristiano Ronaldo, aiming for a fourth successive Champions League title after winning the last three with Real Madrid, put Juventus ahead in the 28th minute.

It was a typically emphatic header, and the Portuguese sixth goal of the competition.

But Donny van de Beek levelled six minutes later before the visitors swept Juventus aside in the second half with wave after wave of attacks as they earned a semi-final against Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur.

Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana gave his team an early scare when his clearance was charged down by Emre Can but the rebound flew wide.

Ajax settled well after that but, despite not playing well, Juventus went ahead when Ronaldo got away from the defenders to score the 126th Champions League goal of his career.

There was a long delay for the VAR review, the referee eventually going to the pitchside monitor with the ball back on the centre circle ready for the re-start, before the goal was confirmed.

Ajax kept their cool and took six minutes to level, helped by a somewhat lucky break.

Hakim Ziyech’s long-range shot hit a defender and fell perfectly for Van de Beek who, unmarked and onside, slotted the ball calmly past Wojciech Szczesny.

But the Dutch side had to wait for another long VAR check before the goal was confirmed.

Ajax took complete control in the second half and their geometric passing repeatedly opened up the Juventus defence, which sorely missed injured veteran Giorgio Chiellini.

Szczesny made one-handed save from Ziyech after Juventus were opened up again and then turned Van de Beek’s curling shot over for a corner.

Juventus were rocking but, ironically, Ajax’s winner came from an old-fashioned header as De Ligt outjumped two defenders to score.

Ajax had chances for further goals and Ronaldo’s frustration boiled over in stoppage time when he was booked for a lunging tackle from behind near the centre circle. (Reuters/NAN)

  • Juve’s rising star, Unbowed by racism

Juventus’s teenage forward Moise Kean continues to suggest he is less the new Mario Balotelli than a successor to Cristiano Ronaldo and his Juve teammate seems to be an admirer

Talking about the teenager and not about the cretins who racially abused him, nor teammates who should have supported him better. He has scored in five consecutive matches for club and country. He’s averaging one goal for every 47 minutes he has spent on the pitch in Serie A this season.

Kean was at it again last Saturday, stepping off the bench to hit the winner for Juventus at home against Milan. The Bianconeri stand on the brink of an eighth consecutive Scudetto, yet had been underwhelming: short on both energy and invention. Trailing to a Krzysztof Piatek goal at half-time, they required a Paulo Dybala penalty to pull level at the hour.

Despite scoring, the Argentinean had struggled to impose himself in open play. He was replaced by Kean soon after. Pjanic came on in between that, and it was he who set up Juve’s winner, intercepting a Mattia De Sciglio pass and playing the ball quickly across the face of Milan’s defence. Kean took one touch before dispatching it beyond Pepe Reina.

This was the second time he had put the ball in the net. Kean’s previous strike was ruled out after a foul by Leonardo Bonucci. There were other chances besides, the forward blazing over from a corner moments after he entered the game. He had supporters on their feet, too, with a nutmeg on Mateo Musacchio.

It scarcely feels plausible that Kean has started only two league games all season. Before March, it was none. Since then, he has been Serie A’s joint-leading scorer. He has also become the youngest player to score in consecutive games for the Italian national team.

How different the outlook might be if Juventus had allowed Kean to leave on loan in January. Milan were among the clubs who enquired about such a deal. So, too, were Ajax, their Champions League opponents on Wednesday. Juventus never truly countenanced such a deal, though there was some pressure from the player’s agent to do so. Mino Raiola knew his client was too valuable to sit around warming a bench. Kean’s contract expires in 2020, and it feels like the renewal cost must be rising by the week. Juventus do not dare to let such a talent slip through their fingers, after plucking him away from their neighbours Torino before he could sign a multi-year deal there at the age of 14.

At the time, Kean was still perceived as a volatile talent. He had a reputation for making mischief – an image reinforced when he was sent home from an Italy under-19 training camp together with Gianluca Scamacca in 2017 amidst reports of an ill-considered practical joke.

Such stories played into portrayals of Kean as the “next Mario Balotelli”. In reality, despite mutual admiration between the two, they are nothing alike in their playing style or approach. Kean has said before now that Balotelli “gives me plenty of advice, because he does not want me to live through what he has”.

Kean’s reputation now is that of a consummate hard worker. He claims to have been influenced by watching Ronaldo up close in training, saying it would be “impossible” not to learn from such a player. The admiration might just be mutual. Ronaldo was on the bench for Kean’s first start, against Udinese, and was seen delightedly imitating the feint and body swerve with which the teenager deceived opponents on the way to his second goal.

It is too soon to know how special Kean can be, whether he can live up to his stated ambition of being as good as his Ballon d’Or-winning teammate. His goals, though, have certainly helped Juventus to cope without their record signing in recent weeks.

Ever since hobbling out of Portugal’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Serbia at the end of last month, Ronaldo has been adamant that he would be back in time to face Ajax. That timeline looks more likely than ever after he participated in a section of team training on Sunday. But the pressure on Massimiliano Allegri to rush him back now is greatly reduced. Juventus have won three out of three since Ronaldo got hurt – with Kean scoring on every occasion.

Milan were unfortunate on Saturday. They ought to have had a penalty of their own when the scores were 0-0, after Hakan Calhanoglu’s cross struck the arm of Alex Sandro. The defender was trying to draw it back but, under the interpretation of the rules applied in Serie A this season, it appeared a clear-cut decision. The referee Michael Fabbri felt otherwise, even after a VAR review.

  • Juventus in shock defeat at SPAL

Juventus were denied the chance of winning Serie A for a record eighth time in a row on Saturday, following a shock 2-1 defeat at relegation-threatened SPAL.

Kevin Bonifazi and Sergio Floccari struck as SPAL completed a most unlikely turnaround to claim three points in their battle to avoid the drop, making Juventus wait a while longer to be confirmed champions again.

Juve only needed a point to be certain of winning the league and Massimiliano Allegri made a whole host of changes resting Cristiano Ronaldo, Federico Bernardeschi, Mario Mandzukic, Alex Sandro, Miralem Pjanic, Blaise Matuidi, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini ahead of their Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Ajax.

But his selection gamble backfired after Moise Kean’s 29th minute strike spurred SPAL into life.

Kean found the back of the net for the fourth Serie A match in a row and a sixth in succession for club and country but his effort came against the run of play following a lively start from the home side.

And SPAL equalised on 49 minutes with defender Bonifazi heading in from a corner before Floccari completed the comeback 16 minutes from time when he swept home from 12 yards.

SPAL faced a nervous wait while the Video Assistant Referee investigated a potential handball by Alessandro Murgia in the build -up before the goal was given.

Allegri responded by bringing on Bernardeschi from the substitutes’ bench but Juventus were left to rue a missed opportunity to wrap the title up early.

The only consolation for the reigning champions is that they will win Serie A again if Napoli fail to beat Chievo on Sunday.

SPAL, meanwhile, moved up to 13th in the table with the three points — seven clear of the bottom three.

“We had a lot of young players and they did well, but above all the second goal showed a lack of experience,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“Kean was feeling a little tired, so I preferred to take him off. When he starts moving wide and doesn’t attack the goal as much, it means it’s time to get him off the field.

“He has different characteristics to [Mario] Mandzukic, but obviously having him in this shape is important and I’ll evaluate what to do on Tuesday.” (ESPN)

  • Juve’s Bonucci says Kean abuse comments were misunderstood

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci says his comments about teammate Moise Kean being partly to blame for racist abuse he suffered after scoring at Cagliari on Tuesday were misunderstood.

Bonucci was criticised by a number of players for saying that the blame for the incident was split “50-50” between the 19-year-old player and the Cagliari fans.

“I was interviewed right at the end of the game, and my words have been clearly misunderstood, probably because I was too hasty in the way I expressed my thoughts,” he said on Instagram.

“Hours and years wouldn’t be enough to talk about this topic. I firmly condemn all forms of racism and discrimination. The abuses are not acceptable at all and this must not be misunderstood.”

Kean, who had been jeered throughout the game, stood in front of the Cagliari fans behind the goal and opened his arms after scoring Juve’s second goal in a 2-0 win.

In response, Cagliari’s supporters made the noise which is described in Italy as “buu” and is regarded as a racist insult, although some fans argue it is simply to annoy opposing players regardless of race.

Bonucci said at the time Kean should have celebrated with his team mates — a remark which prompted England forward Raheem Sterling to comment: “All you can do now is laugh.”

  • Ronaldo fined $22,000 by UEFA for celebration gesture

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been fined $22,600 dollars by UEFA for appearing to make an obscene gesture while celebrating his side’s Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid.

The Portugal international was guilty of “improper conduct,’’ the control, ethics and disciplinary body of the European football organisation ruled on Thursday.

Ronaldo had gestured to his crotch following the final whistle after his hat-trick earned Juventus a 3-0 win over Atletico on March 12, which sent the Italians into the Champions League quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

The gesture appeared to be a response to Atletico Coach Diego Simeone, who had celebrated in similar fashion during his team’s 2-0 win in the home leg.

Simeone was subsequently also fined 20,000 euros by UEFA.

  • Italian giants Juvetus woo Mohamed Salah with €200 million

Italian giants Juventus are ready to dole out €200 million to have Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah it has been revealed.

The Egypt international has continued to impress for the Reds in his second season at the club, having joined the Merseyside outfit from AS Roma ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Salah, who scored 44 goals across all competitions in his debut season at Anfield, has already found the back of the net on 20 occasions this season.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a successful spell in the Serie A at first Fiorentina and then Roma who he left in favour of the Reds for a reported €42 million.

Sky News Arabia, though, report that the Old Lady are willing to pay more than four times that price in an attempt to lure Salah back to Italy.

Juventus have further signaled their intent to fight for UEFA Champions League glory with the purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo who has taken the Italian League by storm this season.

The Italians next face Frosinone in the league before travelling to the venue of this year’s Champions League final to take on Atletico Madrid in a Round of 16 first-leg tie next week. Arsenal ace Aaron Ramsey only few days back signed a deal that will see him join Juve at the end of the season and will going home with about £400k-a-week.

Should the desire to have Salah materialise, Juve would have beefed up with three heavy weight players after grabbing former Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo just after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Egypt will be hosting this year African Cup on Nations in June and the pharaohs are banking on the Salah to lift the team as they aim to win the continental title for the 8th time.  The last time Egypt won the title was in 2010 in Angola.
