  • Kaduna APC leaders assure Buhari of over 90% votes

Yusuf Bala, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, says the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District will give President Muhammadu Buhari over 90 per cent of their votes in the forthcoming presidential election.

Bala disclosed this after a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) had a closed door meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

He said that the delegation felicitated with the Federal Government and acknowledged the work it had done for the nation in the last three and a half years.

“Particularly as it affects the poor people who are 80 per cent voter-based and to assure the vice president that because of the much work that has been done; the next election is as good as delivered.

“We are here to say that by over 90 per cent, we will deliver the president and vice president in the next election as well as the governor and his deputy among others including myself the senatorial candidate for the zone.’’

The deputy governor said that Osinbajo had warmed himself into the hearts of many Nigerians through various grassroots programmes he championed.

The Southern Kaduna APC Senatorial candidate added that part of the reason for the visit was also to invite the vice president to the zone.

“We have also come to request kindly to be part of these efforts; he has endeared himself to Nigerians through so many programmes that have led him through the poor people of this country; the creeks; the roads; the markets; the farmers and so on.

“So I want him to come to the zone to flag off our door to door campaign and hopefully carry out one of these programmes within the zone,’’ he said.

A notable member of the delegation was Dr Hadiza Balarabe, the running mate to Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna in the forthcoming governorship election.

Others were members of the state assembly and party leaders and candidates for various elective positions. (NAN)

  • 2019: Kaduna APC commences campaign, presents flags to candidates

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State on Wednesday commenced its 2019 campaign and presented flags to Senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates.

Addressing the crowd at Kaduna Township stadium, APC Deputy National Organising Secretary, Muhammed Sani, urged them to vote for all APC candidates from state to federal levels.

Sani said the APC expects millions of votes for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 like in 2015.

According to him: “The national leadership of APC is quite proud of the leadership of Kaduna state governor. We will render support to the victory of Governor Nasir El-Rufai and all APC candidates in Kaduna state.

“We are counting on the millions of votes from Kaduna state for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 polls. Kaduna state voted massively for APC in 2015 and I am convinced that your votes for APC in 2019 will be higher than before”.

Kaduna APC Deputy chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris, told opposition there were no vacancies in Presidential Villa and Kaduna state Government House as the current occupants have performed credibly well and need no replacement in 2019.

Garba Datti Babawo, member representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency and chairman caucus  House of representatives members from Kaduna state, called on the electorates to vote all APC candidates, saying only APC that laid the foundation will transform the nation.

Babawo, said the gang up against President Buhari and the APC by former military leaders and some clerics will fail.

He warned that any attempt by the National Assembly to override President Buhari on the rejected electoral amendment bill will be resisted by APC members:

“We heard that there are meetings to override Mr. President on the electoral amendment bill rejected by him but we are in full support of Mr. President. Any attempt to override him will fail”. He said.

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kaduna state governorship aspirant, who recently decamped to the APC, Dr. Mohammed Sani Bello urged his supporters to vote all APC candidates in 2019.

He stated that having observed PDP his former party, only APC will work for Nigerians.

Bello said, “I am calling on all my supporters and Kaduna electorates to vote President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Nasir El-Rufai and all other candidates in the forthcoming elections to continue with the transformations because PDP has nothing to offer Nigerians.

“I am one of the leading figures that left the party to join hands with APC to vote Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other APC candidates because PDP relegates competence.”

El-Rufai, who launched door- to- door campaign across the state, said his administration has undertaken major reforms in education, health among other sectors in the interest of the state.

  • Missing Kaduna APC factional leader found

Danladi Wada, the factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, who was declared missing for about 24 hours, has reported to the police.

Commissioner of Police Austin Iwar confirmed this in a text message to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna yesterday.

Iwar said: “Yes, he has reported to the police and we are investigating the matter.”

Factional APC spokesman Murtala Abubakar said Wada was expected to report at the police station to write a statement after his release by alleged abductors.

Abubakar added that Wada, who went missing after the morning prayers at his Angwan Rimi GRA home on Saturday, was released yesterday at Zaria.

  • Kaduna APC: Torn apart by war of attrition

The crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State has escalated,  following the demolition of the factional secretariat of the party owned by Senator Sulaimon Hunkuyi. ABDULGAFAR ALABELEWE reports that the war of attrition may mar the chances of the party in next year’s elections.

Peace had eluded the Kaduna State  All Progressives Congress (APC).  The crisis rocking the chapter escalated  two weeks ago when Governor Nasir El-Rufai used the instrumentality of the government to deal with his antagonists.

The factional secretariat belonging to Senator Hunkuyi, who is representing Kaduna North District, was demolished on the orders of the governor.

Hunkuyi, a grassroot mobiliser, was a c;ose ally of El-Rufail until last year when the duo fell apart. But, the senator has closed ranks with other stakeholders, including his colleague from Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani. Both are fighting the governor over what they describedd as his high handedness.

Hunkuyi became a major critic of El-Rufai’s government. He has engaged the governor in verbal war, but without commensurate response, except from political praise singers loyal to El-Rufai.

Apart from Hunkuyi’s group, the APC-Akida, led by Mr. Mataimaki Tom Maiyashi, the Restoration Group, led by the Kaduna based media mogul, Alhaji Tijjani Ramalan, and Senator  Sani, are also up in arms against the governor.

The APC Akida broke away from the main party, accusing the governor of high handedness among others.Former interim chairman of APC, Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed, blamed the crisis on El-Rufai’s style of leadership.

Baba-Ahmed,  who is the Chief of Staff in the office of Senate President Bukola Saraki,  said APC Akida was not a political party, but a group of people that were not happy with the way the governor was running the affairs of the state. “We are not a political party. We only want the best for the party and we are out to ensure that party guidelines are followed. The governor is destroying the party. We are only out to safeguard the party from being destroyed,” he said.

Last year, the group passed vote of no confidence on El-Rufai. Its chairman, Maiyashi, said: “APC Akida is passing a vote of no confidence on the governor. We will consult widely, if he continues with his anti-people’s policies, and look inward for his replacement before the 2019 elections because we cannot afford to let him sink this party that took us time to built.

“Two years down the line, our people have only witnessed greater hardship, dehumanisation and complete disregard for the basic sense of humanity. Government’s policies have put the APC on a cliff running up to 2019 when we have to give account of our stewardship. We must not wait until its too late to effect correction.”

He chided El-Rufai for intolerance, adding that he has hired mercenaries to attack individuals who opposed him.

Maiyashi added: “Regrettably, the state is walking into another circle of avoidable crises. This time around, it is the attack on traditional and community institutions that have sustained our sense of community for ages from pre-colonial days. The circular that contained information on sacking of over 4,000 district and village heads simply on the feeble reason of wage bill is worrisome and detrimental to peace process in the state.”

But, El-Rufai described the actions of the group as a demonstration of their “frustration and greediness” and a deliberate attempt to set the state on fire.

The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, said: “Government cannot be deterred from doing what is important, necessary and consequential for our people. That is a more important goal than the ego and private interests of certain individuals.

The APC chieftains had condemned the sacking of over 4000 district and village heads. In his reply, El-Rufai said they were playing to the gallery. “Those who always condemned and displayed disrespect to our traditional institutions and religion, are now pretending to be their champions.

“The government is aware of funny games being played regarding the return to 77 districts. We have letters from some of the former district heads who are alleged to have sued the government dissociating themselves from the litigation.

“The government has consulted, made its decision and it has already implemented it. Districts have been restructured in the better, longer-term interest of Kaduna State. Those who are concerned have already applied for appointment as district heads. There is no need for all the baseless scaremongering,” he added.

Senator  Sani, the  Senate Committee Chairman on Foreign and Domestic Loans, has  maintained a stiff opposition to the governor. His committee has apparently  stood on El-Rufai’s way of getting $350m World Bank loan to finance certain developmental projects.

There is a crisis of ego between the governor and the senator. Sani had allegedly submitted his list of appointees to El-Rufai, which was turned down. The senator felt slighted when the governor said his candidates were diploma certificate holders and therefore, fell below the standard required for his government.

As the war of words between Sani and El-Rufai intensified, the party suspended the senator for 11 months. Efforts to reconcile them last year by the APC national leadership  met a brick wall A bigger crisis ensued, following the demolition of the Kaduna home of Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, the National Vice Chairman of the party, who was sent from Abuja to broker peace in Kaduna.

The government explained that  Abdulkadir’s property lacked requisite building plan approval. But, political observers said El-Rufai was not comfortable with Abdulkadir’s perceived position on the crisis, hence, the demolition of his house.

But, the crisis got to a peak when El-Rufai and Hunkuyi parted ways.  The bone of contention is Hunkuyi’s ambition to succeed El-Rufai, who has a second term ambition.

A source said Hunkuyi’s disagreement with the governor over appointments and control of the party’s structures led to the crisis.

There is also the dimension of leadership crisis in the troubld chapter. Although the APC had dismissed the insinuation that Danladi Wada was its vice chairman when  Bala Bantex, who is the deputy governor, was the chairman, party members loyal to Hunkuyi believe that, it was Hunkuyi allegedly connived with El-Rufai to unseat Wada, who is the now the acting chairman of the Hunkuyi’s faction.

They said  El-Rufai and Hunkuyi were not comfortable with independent minded Wada, who was replaced with Shuaibu Idris, the who is now the acting chairman.

Hunkuyi had mobilised a forum of aspirants to resist the alleged move by the governor to impose his candidates. He also opened a factional secretariat in his house from where the faction issued a query El-Rufai and suspended three of his allies. Irked by the action, the party suspended Hunkuyi for six months and expelled the factional chairman, Wada, from the party.

Aruwan said: “The government is aware of the boastful and pompous claims of Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, that he will change the leadership of Kaduna State in 2019 by installing himself as governor.

“Senator Hunkuyi has further illegally created a faction, headquartered in his house, as a bargaining chip. This Senator has failed to understand that you cannot create party executives at your whim. It is the party’s prerogative to consider appropriate responses to this breach of discipline. But as a government, we view these actions as the needless drama of political traders.

“In 2015, it was God Almighty and the good people of Kaduna State that made Malam El-Rufai Governor and Hunkuyi a Senator. It appears that Hunkuyi has forgotten how his previous attempts to be Governor in 2003, 2007 and 2011 failed miserably. With the Almighty’s gracious help, his association with the El-Rufai brand helped get him elected as senator in 2015.

“Kaduna State is not for sale. Ordinary people, including in Hunkuyi’s Kudan local government area, now know that governance can work for them. The era of political traders is over.” El-Rufai.

The governor justified the demolition of Hunkuyi’s house, saying that he had refused to pay grant rent for eight years.

However, Hon. Isa Ashiru, who contested the2015 primary with El-Rufai, has remained silent. Many believed that he would have secured the ticket, if President Muhammadu Buhari had not thrown his weight behind El-Rufai.

Ashiru’s close ally and the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yaro Makama Rigachikun, has returned to the PDP. Thus, it is believed that Ashiru is   only marking time in the APC as Rigachikun and others are already preparing ground for his return. Ashiru is still interested in the governorship race.

According to observers, the crisis has implications for the party, ahead of next year’s polls. Since the Presidential Reconciliation Committee headed by the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has hit the ground running, it must take holistic look at the crisis in Kaduna and safe the party from permanent crack.

If reconciliation fails, the party may face a perilous future. Apart from Ashiru, Hunkuyi,  Sani and the majority of Akida and Restoration Group members may leave the party.  They fear that the governor may edge them out of the primaries and fix his loyalists.

  • ‘Why reconciliation in Kaduna APC may fail’

‘Why reconciliation in Kaduna APC may fail’

Former Kaduna State Commissioner for Education and factional Chairman of  the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Mataimaki Tom Maiyashi, in this interview with ABDULGAFAR ALABELEWE in Kaduna, the state capital, says there cannot  be genuine reconciliation in the crisis-ridden chapter because Governor Nasir El-Rufai will frustrate it.

Is there any difference between the ‘APC Akida,’ the Restoration Group and the faction, led by Senator Hunkuyi?

I think this question is important for the sake of clearing the confusion around these issues. APC Akida started right from the onset when we noticed that the principles and philosophy on which he party was founded was being renaged by the party in government The people elected the APC into government. They did so based on certain principles of the party, which they believed were going to implement, if elected into power. And the slogan of ‘change’ was not just a mere slogan; we are saying that something was wrong and there was the need to shift to move away from that and bring about the fundamental change that is going to affect the lives of ordinary people like workers, artisans, craftsmen, students and so on. Right from the onset, when we noticed that the state government under the leadership of Nasir El-Rufai had started betraying those principles, we sensed that there was going to be danger and the danger was that if we do not make amends and come back strictly on those principles (Akida), the party was going to run into trouble. Because there will come a time when the party will have to account for his actions. So, it is not just the Governor, and whether you like the governor or not, he is an APC governor, he is not an independent candidate, so the party will have to come back to the people, seeking for remandating from the people. And it is then that the party will be faced with the reality of what it has done and whether it has deviated.

If it has deviated from the principles of which it was elected to government, that will be the day of reckoning and it will not be pleasant and that is why from the onset, we named our selves APC Akida. Restoration Group came much later. It is a very recent development. They were with El-rufai. Even, when we were fighting Nasiru, they were there and we kept telling him that this thing has the capacity of spiralling into something that could throw the party and even the government into very serious crises. Well, they taught that they could manage it from the inside, until lately they now realise that they couldn’t manage it and so they formed what they called Restoration Group. In that case, we are on the same page, they are Restoration and we are Akida, and we came right from the unset.

Before you took up the fight against the governor, did Akida fight from within?

No, there was no fight from within. We are members of APC and nobody can deny that. So, if we see somthing that is wrong and we say for example that to us ita absurd that the governor took the line of action he took, to us it was a complete betrayal of the trust of the people, and we were going to be part of the explanation of what he has done in government, been members of the APC. we cannot now say its when its time to seek for remandating that we now say we are not APC, of course we are. And people will ask us questions anyway, because they know us to be APC.

What we try to do was try to draw the attention of the governor and series of meeting were held, we sort audience with the governor severally, memos were sent to him, seeking to get round the table and discuss the issues. If you want to verify this, you go to the national headquarter of the party, you will see our communication with the party on what was happening. First quarter of 2016 , around March/April, the national vice chairman northwest for APC, barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir was mandated to come and sit with us here, where he finished his work and submitted his report to the national headquarters.

In October, November, December 2016, another committee was formed under the leadership of the governor, his excellencency the Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari and there are two sittings Senators present, Kabir Gaya from Kano and Dr. Abdulahi Argungun from kebbi, they were members of that committee, they came and we instructed all our people to give them maximum corporation to that committee and provide the committee with every information that they required with a view that this thingswill be understood from holistic point of views so that it will be sorted out and party get back on its course. That committee finished his work and just like the governor humiliate the northwest chairman, he also humiliate the Masari committee. You will recall that the governor directed that the family house of the national Vice chairman on Yakubu Avenue to be destroyed, just because he was committed to getting everybody round the table to sort out this problem. So a lot of effort had been made.

There are even friends and colleagues who had even intervened, but the governor remained adamant. You will remember he said anybody who was not happy with what he was doing should go and climb Kufena hill and go and commit suicide. But, we will not go and commit suicide. You also remember May last year at a town hall meeting in Giwa where he named us by name, that we were ants that he has spike shoes, that he will crush and mutilate us and gather the rubbles in wheelbarrow. Well the ants are still here. He doesn’t know that ants are great warriors. I think he needs to go back to history, during the Jihadist days, where ants brought down Chariots on horses, so that is why we are still here and we are on ground.

In the face of all these, what do you think is the future of APC in Kaduna State, especially as we approach the 2019 general election?

It is a very important question. Some of your colleagues have asked me this question and my response has been that- when you have a mandate, you have a contract with the people of Kaduna state that you are going to run a government that is going to respect, promote human dignity, happiness and development, while bringing about change to those people who have been so marginalised over a period of time and have been living in a state of penury, agony and poverty, this is the change APC promised the people of Kaduna state.

As we speak, non of those promises have been fulfilled. Instead the governor has persistently tow the line of antagonizing the same people who gave the APC this mandate that enabled him to become a governor.

Our local government workers have been sacked, traditional rulers have been sacked and many of them humiliated. Teachers have been sacked; as we speak, there are still some people in the civil service who are still receiving their termination and sack letters. As at the last count, we have 36 thousand workers who have lost their jobs in a state, not a Federal Government. The implication of that is huge, and if you take particularly the teachers issue, completely the education system has been dislocated and destroyed, and once you go into destruction, building and developing is not an easy thing.

From the time that the 21,780 teachers were sacked, in some of the schools, its only one teacher remaining. Now, with the promise that some 25 thousand were going to be employed immediately to fill the vacancies of those that were sacked, the whole thing is crazy, that a teacher who did not score 75per cent in an examination is useless and he should go; what is magical about 75 percent? And that exams is the most unprofessional thing that I have ever seen. It is reckless. Some 46,000 were said to have applied, and out of which some 25 thousand are supposed to be selected, and about 10-15 thousand are said to have been found eligible for employment, so assuming that those ones are in place, you will still have a balance of 10 thousand, but as we speak, those ones are not in place yet . You can imagine the loss of contact hours and several weeks, this children have no contact with teachers, imagine the gap of this dislocation? Not to talk of the very poor infrastructure of some schools. If you put all these dislocations together, I don’t know how we are to reconstruct the education in the state to be effective even just at the basic level.

There is no person on earth that will boast that they have all the capacities required in other to perform their duty, be it an Army, Medicine or whatever, there is always a capacity deficiency, and what normally is supposed to be done is to do an evaluation, capacity assessment and see where the capacity gaps are, and you organise capicity building  programmes to fill in those gaps. Those that completely may not be able to get to the basic standard required, you turn them in and let them do something else, but not to wakeup just one morning and sack 21,780 teachers, that is the most craziest thing I have ever come across in my professional life, it is complete madness and we will have to explain these to the electorate, because as we speak, the schools are still empty, teachers are not there, so the day of reckoning is near and I don’t know what the governor has as plan to convince the people that that is the route to take to bring about change in education.

Do you think reconciliation is possible and do you think the governor can tow the line of APC Akida?

First of all, the governor, by his orientation, completely is a misfit in the change project. You can see this clearly, when you want to bring about fundamental change in society, it does not rely on your sole knowledge, that, it is you alone who knows what to do and even the people that you are working for should have no say. In education, there is something we call learner voice, which means you as a teacher should prepare to hear from your students, because the reason why the institutions were established was because of them. If there is no learner, then there will be no Permanent Secretary, Director in the ministry of education, or Commissioner of Education. So, the learner voice is very important, not to talk of democracy where you are supposed to be managing the affairs of men and you say that nobody’s view is relevant, that you will run your policy and evaluate yourself that you have done well, that is madness. That is the orientation of El-rufai, for he will not change.

Look at what happened few days ago. The secretariat, which is Hunkuyi’s house was demolished. That is even Hunkuyi who has been his companion, and a very close ally, who even paved the way for him to win the election. No leader in his responsible sense will do that type of thing. Once anything touches him, (El-rufai) you just flare up. No responsible leader in democracy will do that, this is tyranny. So, he will not change, and so there will be no resolution of this crises. I can tell you that Nasiru El-Rufai will not change and then there will be no resolution of this crises.

We are very happy that the President took this initiative, by instituting the Asiwaju committee. Asiwaju has been governor before. He is highly a respected leader of the party and we know he is committed to the wellbeing of the party. But, I can assure you, I am not a prophet of doom, but Nasiru El-Rufai will not change and so their will be no resolution.

We are prepared. On our side we are prepared, because all along our commitment has been come back on cause and safe this party from ridicule and ruin and humiliation and we have, the state local government election around the corner, you just wait and see, the expression, the reaction of the people , that is going to be a testing ground before 2019. I can tell you as it is now that we have no product to sell to the people. They gave us the mandate and we betrayed the mandate. We have antagonised them, we are fighting them and we are not even prepared to listen. The President in his new year speech apologized for suffering that people are going through, and that is a true sign of good leadership, but here we have a governor who benefited immensely from the credibility of the Mr. President, but he is too big-headed to listen to anybody or let alone even apologise.

You remember his speech at Umar Musa Yardua Centre at Murtala Square, he said he is not afraid of fighting, and he has enough stamina and energy to fight, that he had faught two Presidents; one is in his grave and the other one is in his village in Otuoke. Tell me, can a human being in a respected position make such statement? It is insanity. If he goes to this extent, then, I don’t think miracles are not possible, miracles are possible, but as a human being, the way I see how this government is going, there’s need to blow a trumpet into his ears before he listens and I have not seen that type of trumpet.

In case there is no such micracle, what are your plans in Akida and the Hunkuyi faction?

I can tell you that politics is a matter of opinion,it is what we think we should be doing and political parties are organizations that you join voluntarily, Nobody is in the position to say people must remain in APC. Already there are people who are already leaving, that’s why you hold your views and determine where you are going to realize it. And that’s why the constitution of the federal republic guarantees freedom of opinion and freedom of association, so political parties are associations that you voluntarily join which you can walk in and walk out .There is nobody that can make a law and say you must remain in a political formation as to whether you like it or not. I know many people who are members of APC and their minds are already walking away from the party.

If you study the number of people who voted from 1999 to 2015, you will see that the number of voters is declining, this is because majority of Nigerians are loosing confidence in our elites. Even in this 2015 election which General Buhari won by 2.5 million votes or there about, peoples Jonathan has 10 million votes, Buhari has 12.5 , so if you put the numbers together, it amounts to 22.5 million or thereabout, out of over 60 million eligible Nigerians, which means we are even running a minority government. Many Nigerians have lost faith in the political class.

I am the chairman of Akida, but I am not GOC or Brigade Commander that will command everybody into line. We all have our perception before joining politics, I am in politics becuae of what I wan t Nigeria to be, so if I see that what in what ever formation I’m in is not going to materialise, then the most natural thing for me to do is to look elsewhere, where I can achieve this.

Lawmaker escapes death as Kaduna APC crisis turns bloodly

The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State turned bloody on Friday evening, as lawmaker representing Igabi Constituency at the State House of Assembly, Yusuf Zailani was attacked and injured by some hoodlums at the party secretariat.

The lawmaker who was at the secretariat among other members of the State Executive Council (SEC) for the SEC meeting narrowly escaped lynching as the thugs who surrounded his vehicle while leaving the venue held hostage for some minutes.

It however, took the intervention of policemen at the event to disperse the hoodlums, as they fired life bullets and teargas. But The Nation gathered that the blood was gushing out of the lawmakers head, apparently by his cars glass broken by the thugs.

Prior to the SEC meeting, barely 24 hours after the opening of the factional secretariat led by by Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi and some party members, some thugs suspected to be from El-Rufai’s camp had defaced the secretariat.

It was however gathered that the Friday evening attack, on state’s APC secretariat along Ali Akilu Road was a reprisal from Hunkuyi camp following the deface of their factional secretariat.

One of the Hunkuyi’s followers keeping vigil at the factional secretariat located at 11 Sambo Road in Kaduna told our Correspondent that, their secretariat was defaced when the youths watching over the office were still sleeping in the early hours of Friday.

A visit to the factional secretariat observed that the entrance to the into the building, including the sign post of the party was defaced with red paint.

Meanwhile, the State Executive Council rose from its meeting and suspended Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi representing Kaduna North, while 28 others were expelled.

The decision to suspend the senator and others was followed by what the committee described as an anti-party activities capable of tarnishing the hard earned goodwill of the party.

While addressing pressmen, the Acting State Secretary of the party, Yahaya Baba Pate said, “we took this decision after a thorough deliberation of the members of Kaduna State House of Assembly, Some of the Federal legislators and other stakeholders met on the action of the said persons and having convinced and found guilty of a section in the party’s constitution, we have no other option than to adhered to the constitution.

It will be recalled that, the Hunkuyi’s factional APC secretariat was on Thursday opened by the embattled Senator and some other party stakeholders. They also suspended three chieftains of the party and issued a query to Governor El-Rufai over what it called ‘anti-party activities’.

Kaduna APC writes national body over Shehu Sani suspension

The Kaduna state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has written the national secretariat of the party informing them of the decision. Of the leadership of the party at the various levels in the state to suspend Senator Shehu Sani for what they described as continuous breach of the party rules and constitution.

In a letter dated December 9, 2016 addressed to the National Secretary and signed by the Acting state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris, the party said Senator Shehu Sani was initially suspended for an 11 Months period within which he was expected to week the forgiveness of the party.

The party said that rather than seek amicable settlement if the issues that led to his suspension in other for the suspension to be lifted, the Senator choose to escalate the problems by causing more division  within the party.

The letter reads: “the National Secretary may be aware of recent events in our state concerning the Senator representing Kaduna Central zone, Senator Shehu Sani. The Senator was suspended last year for an eleven months period, following continuous breach of party rules and constitution.

“He was expected to use the period to seem forgiveness and redress with party leaders at state, local government area and ward levels. Unfortunately, rather than seek amicable solution with the party at all levels to quash the allegations against him, he choose to escalate the problems by causing more division within the party and going into verbal set with party leaders at all levels.

“Accordingly at the lapse of his eleven month suspension and without ah sign of remorse or seeking of resolution from the Senator’s side, the ward executive had no choice but to extend his suspension indefinitely. This was endorsed by the par leadership of Kaduna Central, zone and subsequently he the state executive committee of the party”.

Senator a Shehu Sani was first suspended by the leadership of the party in the state in 2015, by the decision was upturned by a committee set up by the North West zonal leadership of the party who also ordered all parties to the dispute to maintain status quo ante.

While section 21 B(i and ii) of the APC constitution empower the leadership of the party to set up a disciplinary committee to investigate allegations against any member, Senator Sani told The Nation that at no time has the party invited him to appear before any committee based on any allegation against him.

We won’t allow cabal destroy our party – Kaduna APC

The Kaduna State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday said it will never allow cabal and mischief makers destroy the party for their selfish interest.

Addressing a news conference in Kaduna over what it described as continuous attacks on its party leaders by Senator Shehu Sani led group ‘APC AKIDA’, State acting Publicity Secretary, Salisu Tanko Wusono said, there is no room for egoism in the party, insisting that all efforts to reform Sani and his group have failed and they will soon be shown the way out.

Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna Central), 2015 APC guber aspirant, Hon. Isa Ashiru, former federal permanent secretary, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, among others had introduced a group known as APC AKIDA.

But, according to State APC spokesman who explained the faces of APC AKIDA members said: “We have tolerated these indisciplined group since 2014 because a party has a duty to train its members, but it appears that they are unwilling to be redeemed. They have remained hostile to the party and its structures, floating its rules and refusing to respect the democratic choices made by our members.”

APC added that, “It is pertinent at this stage to chronicle the serial disrespect that this group of misguided persons has shown for party structures. Not only that they have exhibited unwillingness to accept and respect the democratic choices that our members have made.

“For instance, Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed who was interim state chairman of the party following the merger that produced our, party has expressed his intention to emerge as the substantive chairman of the APC in the state. He did not achieve his wish. The party congress elected Architect Barnabas Yusuf Bala as chairman. From that point in 2014, Dr. Baba Ahmed has tried to elevate himself above the party as if the party without him would not be a party.

“He has invested his time in creating structures extraneous to the party, calling themselves elders, stakeholders or other names. He accompanied his disdain for the APC Kaduna state executive with a campaign against the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as the presidential candidate of the APC. He warned Buhari not to contest, but the members of the APC nationwide thought differently and elected General Buhari as the APC presidential candidate.

“His collaborators in the failed attempt to distract the APC in Kaduna state share with him a joint interest to reduce the APC into a vehicle to placate and massage their egos.”

On the 2015 APC gubernatorial aspirant, Hon. Isa Ashiru, State APC spokesman said, when he lost the governorship contest , he sorted  to be compensated with the senatorial ticket already won by Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, saying “that is the backward distributive tendency typical of the PDP, and this is not welcomed in the APC”.

On Senator Sani, he continued that, “The APC did not have much to say about Senator Shehu Sani, their partner in mischief and indiscipline. His opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Nasir El-Rufai and the APC is well known. He would oppose anything that is good, progress and enhance the wellbeing of our people. He is part of those that defiled our party at the National level and foisted a strange leadership on the senate,” Wusono said.

Senator Sani’s suspension stands – Kaduna APC

All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State on Wednesday announced that the suspension of Senator representing Kaduna Central Zone, Shehu Sani from the APC for eleven months stands.

The Nation recalled that, the National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the party, Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir had on Monday said the suspension of the senator was invalid. But the Kaduna State APC Executive has firmly dismissed the view.

Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, the spokesman of the APC, Hon. Salisu Tanko Wusono said, Barrister Abdulkadir acted without the consent of the national leadership and contrary to Section 21 of APC’s constitution.

Wusono added that the National Vice Chairman’s action was a deliberate attempt to ridicule the party for his personal interest. “The 11-month suspension slammed on Shehu Sani by the Kaduna State APC stands. Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir does not have the power to lift the suspension, and was acting on his own without any authorization by the national leadership of the party.

“What happened on Monday in Kaduna between Abdulkadir and the so-called APC chieftains was an abuse of his office in promoting the narrow agenda of people who have never been interested in the progress and success of the APC.”

Wusono also accused Abdulkadir of embarrassing the national leadership and loyal membership of the APC by his conduct.

“Can a Senator in Inuwa Abdulkadir’s Sokoto State abuse and denigrate party leadership without being disciplined? Take this from us, the national leadership of the APC, President Buhari and his Vice- President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and other leaders of the APC are aware of Shehu Sani’s anti-party activities and his involvement in plots to undermine the APC governments at the federal and state level.

“Shehu Sani is only wasting his time, running from pillar to post; he is like a crocodile in a dry river. Senator Shehu Sani stands suspended from participating in all APC activities in the state. Why is he not attending President Buhari and Vice President Osibanjo’s functions in Kaduna? Why is he not participating in our activities? Why is it that the PDP senator from Southern Kaduna attends critical state functions and not him? All the 11 APC lawmakers in House of Reps from the state are loyal to our leadership. All the 28 APC lawmakers in the Kaduna State House of Assembly are standing by the party and its government. Shehu Sani has chosen to be on his own, and the APC cannot abide his acute irresponsibility and his lack of any appreciation of disciplined political conduct and party discipline.

“There is difference between grandstanding and genuine representation. Kaduna Central, which elected him to the Senate, is one of the most populous senatorial districts in the country with a lot of complexity and dynamism. Rather than representing them well, he is consumed by his penchant for popularity shows, and irresponsible comments like someone who has reduced his duty into a perpetual ego trip.”

The spokesman added that Shehu Sani and his group are trying to use the back door to get back to the party having realized the failure of their attempts to destroy the party in the state.
