  • Police confirm 29 killed, houses razed in Kajuru

    The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdur-Rahman has confirmed that, no fewer than 29 persons lost their lives in the Tuesday morning gunmen’s attack on Karmai village in Kajuru local government.

    The Police Commissioner who stated this at a press briefing in Kaduna also said 40 houses were burnt down in attack.

    According to the CP, “I feel obliged to brief you on the recent sad incidence at Kajuru Local Government Area. On Tuesday, at about 0530hrs, there was an attack on Karmai village near Maro by some unknown bandits who entered the Community and started shooting sporadically which resulted to the death of twenty nine persons including one police personnel who was part of the team that was ambushed while responding to the distress call made by the attacked community. The attackers also torched about forty houses in the community,” he said.

    The Commissioner of Police said that he had gone round all the communities at the axis along with the Garrison Commander 1 Division of the Nigeria Army Brigadier General O.J Akpor and other Senior Police and Military Officers for On-The-Spot Assessment visit to build confidence in them, where he enjoined them to live in peace with one another and to sympathize with the affected community.

    “I also held peace meeting with the community stakeholders and assured them of adequate security. Thus, we have deployed more troops to fortify security within the general area,” he added.

    CP Abdur-Rahman said that the Inspector General of Police IGP Adamu Mohammed is saddened with the ugly incident and has condoled the families that lost their loved ones in the dastardly attack.

    He used the medium to appeal for peace and to assure members of the public that the command was doing everything possible to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act and bring them to justice.

    “Hence, people should not take law into their hands.

    “I want to thank the good people of Kaduna state and the media for their continued support to the Command in our effort to fight crime to its barest minimum in the State.” He stressed.

  • Death toll in Kaduna attack rises to 71

    The Birnin-Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance said yesterday that  the death toll in Saturday’s attack had risen to 71. The police announced on Sunday that 45 people were killed.

    This group said information from the survivors of the Gwaska attack, also raised the fear of another another being planned

    It called on the concerned authorities to take fi=urther security measures at Doka and Maganda districts to stop the armed bandits.

    In a statement, the group added: “We are calling on the authorities based on reliable information from the survivors of Gwaska attack, that, Dogo Gide that killed Buharin Daji renegades are planning to attack other villages and towns.

    “While commending the gallant vigilantes and volunteers as well as security agencies for their sterling performance in the rescue and evacuation of casualties, we are appealing for all peace loving people of Birnin-Gwari to be on alert and report suspicious persons and movements to the security agencies.”

    Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai yesterday visited communities in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area where hoodlums killed 45 people at the weekend.

    He was at the palace of the Emir, Malam Jibril Zubair Mai Gwari II, where he met with the emir and community leaders, after which he proceeded to Gwaska, the scene of the fatal attack.

    Governor El-Rufai according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Samuel Aruwan, expressed his sorrow.

    He said: “I came here to share the pain and anguish of our people, the predicament of innocent citizens whose lives were cut short due to the terrorism of bandits and criminals who have been tormenting us.”

    The statement said the Emir of Birnin-Gwari praised the Federal and state governments for demonstrating commitment to the plight of his people.

    “We are grateful for your deep condolences and empathy. We are grateful for all your commitment to resolving the plight of Birnin Gwari people. As a member of the State Security Council, I am in the know of Federal and State Government commitment.

    “The IGP and the GOC were here and have confirmed the establishment of a Battalion of the army and Police Area Command. I am happy that you are going to Gwaska and other communities to see for yourself.”

    Six killed in fresh Kaduna attack

    At least six persons have been killed and several others injured in fresh night attack on Kaguru village in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna State.

    However, policemen have been deployed to the area to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.

    According to an indigene of the area, Abdullahi Usman, the gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked the village on Wednesday night.

    Usman, who said the villagers were caught unaware added: “After the gunmen sacked the village, they continued shooting sporadically and they went round to release all the cows from house to house and led them into the bush unchallenged.

    “They also set many houses ablaze after that. Nobody knows the exact number, but the cows are in their hundreds. They took all of them and left with them but killed six innocent persons.”

    Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Aliyu, said the gunmen invaded the community while the villagers were asleep and killed six persons.

    “The hoodlums invaded the community when the residents went to bed after which they started shooting indiscriminately and burning down houses before the arrival of security operatives.

    “More troops have been deployed to the affected region while those that sustained injuries were taken to Birnin Gwari General Hospital for urgent medical treatment,” he said.

    CAN Rivers mourns Southern Kaduna attack victims

    The Rivers State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has declared Sunday, January 8, a day of mourning victims of the Southern Kaduna violence.

     Announcing the event in a statement in Port Harcourt, by the state Chairman of the group, Most Rev. Isaac C. T Anyanasikike, said:  “CAN has therefore declared Sunday January 8, 2017, National day of mourning, in memory of those victims, and to draw attention, both nationally and internationally to the on-going ethnic/religious cleansing of Nigerian Christians in general and those of southern Kaduna in particular, in the last few weeks.
