  • Why we hiked gate fee for Pillars’ game — Kaduna Utd

Why we hiked gate fee for Pillars’ game — Kaduna Utd

Kaduna United football club media officer, Mohammed Suleiman has revealed why the club increased the price of entry ticket for Wednesday’s Glo Premier League game against Northern rivals, Kano Pillars in a week 34 game at the Kaduna Township Stadium.

The chairman, Kano Pillars fans club, Bashir Muazu had complained that Kaduna United management charged club’s fans to the tune of N3,000 for match tickets. The situation he said was deliberate to deny their supporters access to the stadium.

But in reaction to the allegation, Mohammed said:”It is a common custom everywhere in the world that big game ticket prices are usually and mostly different from other games, for instance you can’t expect to pay same amount for Manchester United against Sunderland for a Manchester United against Manchester City game? Even CAF and FIFA have different prices for different games during major tournament, so if we are crying in Nigeria that club should be self sufficient then ticketing is a best way to raise money especially derby games like the one we had on Wednesday against Kano Pillars in Kaduna”

He added:” How can they say so that the hike was meant to deny them access to the game? Did we stop any of them who bought the ticket from entering the stadium? We gave them VIP complimentary tickets; even though they gave us none in Kano when we played there, our supporters bought tickets in Kano, so why won’t they buy in Kaduna? They came to Kaduna with a plan to disrupt the game; they are only speaking from the frustration that their plans didn’t work”

On journalists who claimed they were barred from entering the stadium on the match day, Mohammed said:”It is unfortunate that they were stopped by the security men because the instruction we gave was journalists and referees should tender their identity cards and be allowed access, but the Pillars fan seized the opportunity and about 10 under aged kids came with identity cards posing as either journalist or referee and I the media officer was at the gate till 3:30pm identifying the true journalists from them, so any journalists who was locked out probably came after the said time of 3:30pm,we are very sorry but we are also using this medium to appeal to journalists to please ensure that they arrive early for games”

    • Now 12th on the log

Lobi Stars of Makurdi have beaten Kaduna United 2-1 to move to 12th on the log with 45 points from 33 games after an energy sapping Glo Premier League Matchday 33 tie played at the Emmanuel Akume Atongo Stadium, Katsina Ala.

Two first half goals from Abraham Peters and Esosa Igbinoba put Lobi in the lead before Kaduna United reduced the arrears in the second half to make it a tension soaked climax at Katsina Ala.

Lobi started faster of the two teams right from the blast of the referee’s whistle and impressive Douglas Achiv almost scored the opening goal inside the first two minutes.

The Makurdi Bombers got the curtain raiser in the 4th minute after another nice work from Achiv gave lurking Peters the opportunity to nod into an empty net. Lobi netted again before the Ben Duamlong tutored Kaduna United could recover from the initial shock. Igbinoba was the architect of the second goal after he drilled the ball beyond the reach of Kaduna United’s goalkeeper.

Kaduna United couldn’t get their bearing for most part of the encounter and are only reduced to bit pat intermittent forays in the attack which failed to yield any dividend.

At the resumption of the second half,

Both teams concentrated play at the midfield with occasional counter attack which couldn’t produce the desired effect. Kaduna United found a way to reduce the tally at a stage in the second half and Lobi players couldn’t reproduce the first half performance.

Lobi hung on to an important victory. The win shot the Evans Ogenyi coached side to 12th on the log with 45 points from 33 games while Kaduna United slipped to 14th with 44 points from as many matches.

Rangers stop Kaduna Utd 2-1 in Enugu

Enugu Rangers and Warri Wolves recorded contrasting results in match day 24 games of the Globacom Premier League played in Enugu and Lafia respectively.

At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, the Flying Antelopes prevailed over a stubborn Kaduna United 2-1 while Warri Wolves survived two penalty kicks to draw 1-1 against Nasarawa United.

Meshack Chukwubuikem and Chisom Egbuchulam were both on the scorer’s chart for Rangers in the 53rd and 79th minutes.

The win catapulted the Coal City team to 7th on the log with 36 points from 24 games.

At the Lafia Stadium, Warri Wolves got the curtain raiser in the 60th minute through Joseph Osadaiye but the home team fought back gamely and equalised through Jackson Daniel in the 77th minute.

Nasarawa United would have won the match by a comfortable margin had they converted two spot kicks awarded the side in the second half but both got spurned by Leonard Ugochukwu and Ibrahim Ibrahim.

Warri Wolves’ media officer Moses Etu however alleged poor officiating but was grateful the Seasiders would be returning to Warri for a tie with Enyimba without a defeat.

He nonetheless dedicated the draw in Lafia to the head coach of the team, Solomon Ogbeide who celebrated his birthday on August 9.

“We are not happy that this kind of officiating is allowed in the Nigerian league. It is a shame that the centre referee awarded two unjustifiable penalties but we thank God both were lost.

“This hard-earned draw is dedicated to the coach of the team. He celebrated his birth day on the 9th of August, so he deserves all the accolades. We shall go back to Warri and try to be refreshed ahead of our tie with Enyimba on Wednesday,” Etu told SportingLife.

Warri Wolves are 3rd on the log with 38 points from 24 games while Nasarawa United are on 30 points from as many games.
