    Council of Imams back Buhari’s loot recovery

    The Council of Imams and Ulama in Kaduna State, on Sunday said the effort by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in recovering stolen wealth from past corrupt officials, was commendable.

    The resolution was passed in Kaduna after the council’s annual conference.

    The Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Baban Tuni and the Secretary-General Yusuf Arrigasyyu, presented the resolution.

    According to the resolution, the effort of the Federal Government to recover all ill-acquired wealth looted from the nation’s treasury was laudable.

    Tuni said: “Therefore, it is compulsory to retrieve the people’s right from corrupt and selfish persons.

    “The Council is urging the government to do justice to the culprits according to the provisions of the law.

    “The Council also feels delighted and appreciative of the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari in its effort to wipe out insurgency and other terrorists acts from Nigeria.

    “The Council equally observes that some progress and successes have been recorded at various levels within few months of this administration.’’

    Tuni said further that the council was impressed about the recall of officers and men of the Nigerian Army who were dismissed on grounds of insubordination, treason and various other charges.

    The Council, however, reminded Buhari and all other political leaders to fulfil their campaign promises to the electorate.

    “We call on all Nigerians to remain steadfast and continuously pray for the sustenance of our country and we pray that Allah help our leaders to be just and truthful.”

    Kaduna: Victims of NAF crash identified

    Identities of the victims of the Nigerian Air Force plane which crashed Saturday morning into residential quarters at Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna have come to the fore.

    The victims are; Squadron Leader Adekunle Suara (pilot), wife of Wing Commander N. Hassan, wife of Wing Commander I. B. Musa, Warrant Officer Etim and Air Craft Woman Naomi Adekunle all perished in the Abuja bound aircraft.

    Squadron Leader Suara was the Pilot of the ill-fated crash. He is survived by a young wife.

    This was as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence (MOD), Alhaji Isma’ila in company of the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Officer Commanding (AOC)Training Command, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Commandants of Air force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and Nigerian Defence Academy and other top military officers paid families of the deceased condolence visit at the NAF base, Kaduna yesterday.

    Meanwhile, owner of the house where the ill-fated plane crashed, Lieutenant Colonel Grema narrated how he escaped death on that faithful day.

    He told the Permanent Secretary and his entourage that “I came out of my house few minutes before the plane fell to put on my bore hole, I had not quite shut the door to my house when I heard the plane fall.”

    As at the time of the Permanent Secretary’s visit, condolence registers have been opened in the victim’s houses, while some family members were still in shock. Wife of the pilot, a young woman who lost a husband she had only been married to for over a year thanked the Permanent Secretary and his entourage for the visit.

    Wing Commander Musa and Hassan said the visit by the top brass team had given them encouragement and courage to raise the children their wives left, they however pleaded their unrelenting effort to move the NAF and the Nigeria military forward.

    Speaking however with newsmen after inspecting the scene of the crash, the Permanent Secretary noted that they were here to commensurate with the families who lost their loved once and their property in the unfortunate crash that occurred on Saturday.

    “It is a very sad even not only to the Nigerian Air Force, but to all Nigerians we have lost very able officers and their families and we want to on behalf of the Federal Government extend our condolences to all of them and pray for the repose of their souls.

    “On efforts the FG is making to foster the reoccurrence of such crash, he said “with the passion and zeal the president came in with, you will appreciate that he is doing everything possible to address some of these challenges of security in the country. The Nigerian Army, Airforce and Navy are all one and he is doing all his best to reposition them to meet global standards.”

  • Seven die in NAF jet crash in Kaduna

    Seven persons are reported dead in an Air Force Training flight which crashed into Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA Officers Quarters, Kaduna on Saturday morning.

    Those on board the flight which crashed at about 6: 47am included the pilot, co-pilot, two engineers and three passengers.

    The Nation learnt that the Abuja bound flight crashed about 10 minutes after take off from the NAF base.

  • Northern Govs meet on dreaded forest again

    Governors of North Western States and Niger met in again in Kaduna on Saturday to review the security approach towards ending cattle rustling and other security challenges in Kamuku and Kuyanbana Forests.
    It would be recalled that, five Governors of Kaduna, Niger, Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara states met in June to form a joint security operation against dreaded Kamuku Forest.
    Meanwhile, at the Saturday’s review meeting held alongside security chiefs, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and his Sokoto counterpart had joined the five Governors to avoid spillover of security challenges around their states when criminals are smoked out of the forest.
    Briefing newsmen after the close door meeting which lasted for three hours, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwwal said they will leave no stone unturned to ensure maximum security in their domain.
    He noted that, the collaborative approach adopted by the states surrounding Kamuku and Kuyanbana Forests has paid off, as it has started yielding positive results.
    According to Tambuwwal, “We have resolved to support the security agencies both material, financially and morally to improved security situation and ensure that there is no hideout for criminals in the North-west sub-region.
    “The collaboration between the states and Federal Government has been very helpful. So, we just sat to review the way forward and how to bring about peaceful coexistence in our region.
    “With reports reaching us so far from the security operatives, we are satisfied that the operation is successful and moving smoothly. And we are hopeful that in no distance future, peace will return to the region.
    “Initially, it was only five states of Kaduna, Niger, Zamfara, Katsina and Kebbi but today other states like Sokoto and Kano have decided to join hands with the movement to ensure that no hideout for the criminals or terrorists.
    “So far, we have made lot of arrests and recovery of property belonging to innocent persons and were returned back to their owners. But it is still ongoing and we will brief you adequately at the end of the operations on the successes recorded.
    “We are calling on the people to cooperate and support us by making available necessary information and by reporting suspicious movement around their neighbourhood to security operatives to ensure they are apprehended.” Tambuwwal said.

    Don’t pay for application, El-Rufai tells Kaduna job seekers

    Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has told applicants for the recently advertised jobs in the state’s teaching service and traffic enforcement agency not to pay any fee or buy any forms.

    The Governor said the applicants are simply required to submit their applications at the advertised places and not to pay a dime.

    El-Rufai, in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, said as clearly stated in the adverts, applications by those seeking teaching jobs should be addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education.

    He said: “Applicants for Traffic and Environmental Enforcement Officer positions should submit their applications to their local government council chairman.

    “Applicants are not required to pay any fee or submit any forms other than their application letters and relevant documents.

    “Any request for money or acts amounting to obstructing or hindering citizens from smooth submission of their applications is illegal.

    “Applicants should report such acts to info@kdsg.gov.ng  or to 08184444644 and 08184444744.

    “Candidates whose applications meet the required standards will be shortlisted and contacted for the next stage of the recruitment process.”

    Kaduna begins second round of workers’ verification

    The Kaduna State government, determined to clean up the civil service, has said it will begin the second round of workers’ verification today.

    The exercise will enable it to authenticate the outcome of the first verification.

    The Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement, said: “The biometric verification of civil servants will resume on August 10.”

    According to the statement the Head of Service, Mrs. Alisabatu Dada Onazi, has sent a circular to the MDAs and councils detailing how the exercise will be conducted in Kaduna, Zaria and Kafanchan senatorial districts.

    The statement said permanent secretaries/overseers, staff officers and directors are expected to identify their workers, their APP, PSN secret file numbers and N numbers.

    It added: “They should be at the verification centres to identify the workers.

    For the purpose of documentation, every worker is directed to present the original and photocopies of the following: Letter of first appointment, letter of present appointment and last promotion. Every worker is required to present any of these four documents for identification: Nigerian National Identity Card, Nigerian National Voter Card (temporary voter card will be accepted), international or ECOWAS passport and Nigerian National Drivers’ Licence.”

  • Kaduna TUC backs El-Rufai’s fight against ghost workers

    The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Kaduna State Council has said it is not opposed to the genuine verification exercise of the state Civil

    Servants to rid the government pay roll of ghost workers.

    The Chairman, Comrade Shehu Mohammed while addressing a press conference in kaduna yesterday said the Congress is in total support of any move that will ensure the free flow of money illegal accounts to the government treasury for speedy development of the state.

    The Union however appealed to the Governor consider the payment of July 2015 salaries and wages of those civil servants of the state

    that were cleared in June while the second   round  of the verification exercise in the state continue.

    According to him, “The Union is of the opinion that delaying payments of worker’ salaries and wages amounts to tremendous hardship to the workers and their families.

    “We considers the outcome of the meeting between the committee of verification exercise and the leadership of the union along side with

    banks that were to handle the exercise and we discovered that some of them are not ready.

    “In as much as the union remains committed  in supporting the government in carrying out its obligatory to the people of Kaduna State it would not be seen as shaking away from its responsibilities to protect the economic well being of its members in the state,” Comrade Mohammed stated.

  • Kaduna Assembly confirms 13 commissioners

    Kaduna State House of Assembly yesterday confirmed the 13 commissioners nominated by Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.

    The governor last week sent a list containing the names of 13 commissioner-nominees to the Assembly, requesting that the lawmakers should screen them.

    The nominees appeared before the plenary presided over by Speaker Aminu Shagali and were screened and confirmed.

    Those confirmed are Prof. Jonathan Andrew Nok (Health and Human Services); Hajiya Rabi M.G. Abdulsalam (Women Affairs and Social Development); Suleiman Aliyu Lere (Water Resources); Muhammed Sani Abdullahi (Budget and Planning); Dr. Manzo Daniel Maigari (Agriculture and Forestry) and Muhammad Bashir Saidu (Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs).

    Others include Suleiman Abdu Kwari (Finance); Dr. Shehu Usman Adamu (Education, Science and Technology); Dr. Ya’u Usman Idris (Environment and Natural Resources); Daniel Auta (Youth, Sport and Culture); Shehu Balarabe (Commerce, Industry and Tourism); Amina Ruth Dyeris-Sijuwade (Justice) and Usman Mahmud Hassan (Works, Housing and Transport).

    Addressing reporters after the screening, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Nuhu Shadalafia, described the commissioners as competent for the job.
