Lagos innovator bridges social service gaps with groundbreaking OWAB advocacy application

In a significant leap toward inclusive social welfare delivery, Ms. Kafayat Adeseun Balogun, a visionary advocate and digital innovator, has been lauded for developing the OWAB Advocacy Application, a groundbreaking platform transforming how vulnerable populations access essential services across Lagos State and beyond.

Designed to address deep-rooted barriers in the social services ecosystem, the OWAB Advocacy App emerged as a response to the challenges faced by the elderly, persons with disabilities, low-income families, and the social workers assigned to serve them.

With bureaucratic red tape, digital exclusion, and fragmented communication between agencies often hindering timely support, Ms. Balogun led a multidisciplinary team to create a digital solution that would eliminate these obstacles and simplify access to help.

The OWAB Advocacy Application acts as a digital one-stop hub, enabling users to connect directly with government agencies, NGOs, and social workers for services such as healthcare, legal aid, housing, and welfare support.

What sets it apart is its AI-powered eligibility screening, which allows users to instantly determine what social programs they qualify for and guides them through the application process with ease. “Access to social support should not be a privilege it should be a right,” said Ms. Kafayat at a recent press briefing. “The OWAB app is our way of breaking down the barriers that leave so many behind.”

Since its launch, the application has already made a measurable impact:
Over 1000 individuals with disabilities have used the platform to gain direct access to life-changing services. Government agencies and leading NGOs have formally adopted OWAB for public service delivery, citing its ease of use and integration capacity.

Ms. Balogun’s efforts are being hailed as a model for tech-enabled social change. Analysts suggest the OWAB framework could be replicated in other states and countries, especially where service gaps have long marginalized at-risk populations.

In recognition of this achievement, Ms. Balogun is currently in discussions with policymakers on expanding the app’s reach across West Africa, while also exploring enhancements such as voice-assisted navigation for non-literate users and integration with national identity databases.

As Lagos State continues to strive for innovation in governance and inclusion, the OWAB Advocacy Application stands as a testament to what happens when compassion meets technology and when one woman dares to design a better world for others.
