Eagles’ reliance on ‘bench warmers’ worries Kanu
With several of the Super Eagles’ overseas-based invitees struggling to get regular playing time for their respective clubs over the past season, former Super Eagles skipper, Nwankwo Kanu, has described the situation as worrisome.
Kanu said although the fact that the players are fit is an advantage, invitation of players to the national team should be based on them playing regularly for their clubs.
“Of course it bothers me. But if you’re a good player, you’re a good player.
“We just need them to be fit but they must understand it won’t be me playing for them, they have to go out there and play, “he told sl10.ng.
“They should know that they must play for their clubs and if they do that regularly, the chances of playing for Nigeria is enhanced and that is how it should be based and I hope the players understand this.”
