  • Labourer docked for criminal trespass

    A 22-year-old labourer, Godsafe Nanbol, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal trespass and attempt to steal.
    The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a two-count charge.
    The prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Abdullahi Illiyasu, of Kado village, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on March 19.

    Auhioboh said that on March 18, the defendant was caught searching Illiyasu’s pocket, while he was sleeping outside his apartment.
    She said during police investigation, the defendant could not explain his mission in the complainant’s compound.

    The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 348 and 95 of the Penal Code.
    The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N5, 000 and one surety in like sum.
    Sadiq said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case till April 25, for further hearing.

     

  • Man in prison for stealing church property

    A 29-year-old man, Ricab Vondip, was on Thursday sentenced to two months imprisonment by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for stealing musical keyboard valued at N400, 000 from a church.

    The convict who was arraigned on a count charge of theft pleaded guilty to the charge.

    He begged the court to have mercy on him and promised not to commit crime again.

    The judge, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq, who convicted Vondip, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 fine, and warned him to desist from committing further crime.

    The prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that Vondip committed the offence on Dec. 24, 2016 at the Salem Church, Utako, Abuja.

    He said that Pastor Joel Madaki of Salem Church Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on March 8.

    Zannah said Vondip was invited by his friend James Silas to attend a church service, but he dishonestly stole the church Yamaha keyboard.

    The prosecutor said that the convict was arrested and he confessed to have sold the keyboard at N 24,000.

    Zannah said that the keyboard was yet to be recovered.

    He said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

     

  • Two men docked over cell phone theft

    Two men, Abdulrafiu Shittu and Mohammed Idris, were on Wednesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged joint act and stealing.

    The prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Abubakar Yahaya, of Wuse Zone 5, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station Abuja, on March 5.

    Dalhatu said that the complainant alleged that on that same day, the accused persons stole his Samsung A3 phone valued at N140, 000.

    He said that during police investigation, the accused persons were arrested.

    The prosecutor said that the accused persons could not give any satisfactory explanation of themselves.

    Dalhatu also said that the offence contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

    The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against them.

    The Counsel to the accused persons, Isaac Mathew, applied for their bail, and assured the court that the defendants would not jump bail.

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted the accused N50, 000 bail each and one surety each in like sum.

    Sadiq said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case till March 30, for further hearing.
