    Katsina govt to foot medical bills of victims in Gov Radda’s convoy accident

    The Katsina State Government has pledged to fully cover the medical expenses of the nine victims involved in a car accident involving the convoy of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

    The Nation recalls that the incident occurred on Sunday evening along Katsina Road, Daura, near the School of Health Technology, when a private Golf Volkswagen car collided with the Governor’s vehicle.

    While Governor Radda emerged unhurt, nine passengers in the private vehicle sustained varying degrees of injuries.

    Two of the victims suffered minor fractures, while the remaining seven sustained bruises and other injuries. All are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Daura.

    A delegation from the state government, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango, visited the victims at the hospital and assured them of the government’s commitment to settling all medical bills.

    The victims and their families expressed gratitude to the state government for its swift response, support, and display of compassion.

    According to hospital sources, the condition of all the injured persons is improving steadily.

    The Katsina State Government has issued a stern warning to proprietors of private and community schools over the poor quality and substandard training being offered to students and pupils.

    The warning was delivered by the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajia Zainab Musa Musawa, during the unveiling of new operational guidelines at a one-day sensitization workshop held in Katsina.

    Musawa emphasized that the current administration is committed to reviving the declining standard of education in the state, and will not tolerate any institution that falls short of acceptable training standards.

    She said the newly introduced guidelines are designed to enhance collaboration between the government, private school owners, and community-based education stakeholders.

    The Commissioner also underscored the need for inclusive educational reforms and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving learning outcomes across Katsina State.

    She said, “This is a crucial step towards strengthening school operations and fostering sustainable collaboration between the state and non public educational institutions,”

    “Education is the cornerstone of progress, private and community schools play a vital role in shaping the future of our children.”

    The newly introduced guidelines is expected to address several critical areas such as infrastructure, curriculum delivery, teacher qualifications, student welfare and strict compliance with national and state education policies.

    The commissioner said the newly unveiled operational guidelines for private and community schools were developed using global best practices, tailored to suit the state’s local realities.

    She assured education stakeholders that the framework is not intended to impose undue burdens but to empower schools in delivering quality and inclusive education.

    A key aspect of the reforms is a renewed focus on community engagement. Under the new guidelines, community schools are expected to present long-term development plans that actively involve local stakeholders, positioning the schools as hubs for both learning and community welfare.

    Speaking on behalf of private school proprietors, Professor Kabir Matazu commended the state government’s inclusive approach and stressed the importance of sustained collaboration to elevate education standards across the state.

    The sensitization workshop attracted a broad spectrum of participants, including school proprietors, principals, headmasters, teachers, community leaders, and other vital education stakeholders.

    WAEC: Katsina Govt. seeks cancellation of English language paper

    The Katsina State Government on Saturday called for the cancellation of the English language examination recently conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

    The called followed an incident which led to the commencement of the examination several hours behind the scheduled time nationwide on Wednesday.

    The position of the state was announced in Katsina by Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education during a visit to WAEC office in Katsina.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the position was based on a petition signed by Hajiya Ummukhair Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.

    NAN recalls that WAEC blamed the situation on heightened efforts to curb examination malpractice, particularly the leakage of question papers.

    “Students had to write the examination at night without light until torch lights, handsets lights, security lights were provided,” she said.

    Musa-Musawa also called on schools, parents and the communities to exercise patience and wait for the outcome of the petition.
