    Police activate school protection mechanism to strengthen security

    The Katsina State Police Command has activated a comprehensive school protection mechanism to enhance safety and security across educational institutions in the state.

    In a statement issued on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu said the move aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to prioritise the protection of schools and vulnerable areas.

    Shehu directed the Coordinator of the School Protection Squad to fully activate all security measures to ensure that schools across Katsina State are adequately safeguarded.

    During a meeting with tactical commanders to review and strengthen the command’s overall security strategy, the CP also ordered the deployment of additional resources to boost operations.

    He urged residents to continue supporting the command’s efforts by promptly reporting suspicious activities through the established emergency lines, noting that public collaboration remains vital to ensuring safer schools and communities.

    The Katsina State Police Command yesterday foiled two kidnap attempts and rescued six victims on the Jibia-Kauran Namoda Road, Katsina State.

    Police Public Relationship Officer (PPRO), Katsina Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, broke the news in a statement.

    He said the incident was reported at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters that kidnapping was happening on the Jibia-Kauran Namoda Road, Katsina State.

     He said: “Upon receiving the report, police operatives, in collaboration with the military, raced to the scene and engaged the suspects in a gun duel.’’

    Four of the victims were rescued while one died during the attack.

     Also, he said, about 0700 hours, the Faskari Divisional Police Headquarters received a call on an attempted kidnapping on the Funua-Gusau Road at Unguwar Boka village, Faskari Local Government Area. He said the police and the military men engaged the assailants in a gun duel.

     Two of the kidnapped victims were rescued while one of the kidnappers was killed.
