    Eleje: Katsina United explored Rangers’ weaknesses

    Obinna Eleje has disclosed that Katsina United studied the weaknesses and strong points of Enugu Rangers before their yesterday’s league tie and that armed with that information, they were able to explore it despite the toughness of the Flying Antelopes throughout the encounter.

    Timothy Danladi struck from the penalty spot in the first half of the tie and they sat on the lone goal scored to record a home win but Eleje who returned to competitive football in the final 25 minutes of the encounter yesterday after sometime on the sideline due to injury told SportingLife that they used Rangers’ weaknesses to their advantage.

    “We have known Rangers very well and this helped us during the match. We were able to explore their weaknesses and we got the points we so much desired,” Eleje told SportingLife.

    Katsina United jumped to 12th on the log with 19 points from 14 games and they will visit Akure for a mid week duel with Sunshine Stars.

    Ambrose emotional after Wikki match winner

    Wikki Tourists’ match winner in their 2-1 home win over Katsina United yesterday in a NPFL tie in Bauchi, Peter Ambrose has disclosed that he was left speechless after getting his first goal of the season.

    The Giant Elephant started the game very brightly through the goal of Victor Yakubu who put them in the lead in the fourth minute from the penalty spot but Katsina United fought back to get the equaliser in the 47th minute through Destiny Ashadi before the wonder goal from Ambrose.

    Ambrose, a defender and the younger brother of Super Eagles’ defender, Efe Ambrose told SportingLife that he was delighted that he got the winning goal after what his team has gone through in recent times.

    The three points lifted Wikki to 15 points from 13 games and off the bottom of the league table which has now been taken over by Remo Stars.

    Katsina United’s last gasp win over MFM at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium on Wednesday in a NPFL Match Day 11 tie has come at a cost with three of their players down with injuries and have been ruled out of their Match Day 12 tie against ABS in Ilorin this weekend.

    Martins Ursule’s 90th minute goal was the difference between the hosts, Katsina United and the Olukoya Boys as the game that was almost ending in a 1-1 draw turned dramatically for the maximum points for the home team but they have lost four of their regular players ahead of their trip to the Kwara State Stadium on Sunday.

    Obinna Eleje(hamstring), Joshua Agboola (ankle), Tasiu Lawal (ankle) and Destiny Ashadi (ankle and thigh) are down with injuries and have been declared not part of this weekend tie.

    Eleje has been told to rest his hamstring while Lawal and Agboola are expected to be out for two and three weeks respectively and Ashadi who has been struggling with ankle and thigh injuries is to be examined by team doctor to see if he could be risk for the weekend game or told to rest to recover from the injuries.

    A source within the club told SportingLife that even though the technical crew has capable replacements, head coach, Bauldwin Bazuaye would still struggle to name players that could effectively replace them.

    Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari has challenged Katsina United to double their efforts and pick away win in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

    The Governor, who spoke to the team through the Katsina United chairman Aminu Balele Kurfi, said there is no difference between home and away matches.

    Kurfi admitted that the club has received financial and moral support from the governor which he described as a motivating factor to his team.

    “His Excellency Governor Aminu Masari has talked tough to the team and told us to go and get away win. The governor said if a team can come to Katsina and get a point, there is no reason why we should not get points away from our home ground,” Kurfi told SportingLife.

    “The Governor prefers away point to home point and believes that winning away game give a club a national outlook. As soon as I received this directive, I tasked the technical crew and players about the challenges. The club has received financial, moral and psychological support from the governor. Even though we are new in the league but the governor has told us to learn more.”

    Kurfi also disclosed that Governor’s directives has started yielding positive result with the 0-0 draw against Lobi Stars in a matchday 8 clash in Makurdi on Sunday.

    “I can tell you that governor’s directive is now yielding good result for us as we picked a draw in the game against Lobi Stars. Based on the governor’s directive I promised the team that whenever they win away match they will receive their match bonuses that day. I am telling you that the players will get their match bonus today for the draw against Lobi Stars.”

    The newly promoted side, Katsina United have shown their readiness for the forthcoming Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season after clearing most of their new signings.
    The club chairman, Aminu Balele Kurfi said the move to secured their clearance proves that the club meant business and ready to compete favorably well in the league.
    Kurfi stressed that the new players will add value to the club with their experience.
    “We have cleared our new players as we hope to be competitive in the Nigeria premier league. We have fully paid for their clearance. This is another sign that we are in the NPFL for serious business,” disclosed Kurfi.
    Among the new signings cleared are Abdulwahab Bidemi (FC Ifeanyi Ubah), Dami Paul (Nasarawa United), Tasiu Lawal (Niger Tornadoes), Eric Gwammy, Franky Eghervba (Mighty Jets), Kingsley Ajaero (Heartland), Franke C.Kappe (Abuja Football College) and Michael Nelson (El Kanemi).

    SportingLife can reveal that the newly promoted side, Katsina United have completed the signing of Obinna Eleje and Bidemi Abdulwahab in preparation for 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
    It’s understood that Eleje dumped Warri Wolves for Katsina United after the team relegated to the lower division last season. Abdulwahab pitched tent with northern club side from FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
    They are expected to be part of the squad to be paraded by the club for the Nigeria National league (NNL) Super 4 slated for Gombe State.
    “Their experience in the league will be very useful to us in the NPFL. Eleje, Bidemi have understanding of the league that is why we recruited them. We want a better outing in the league and we are making frantic effort to have a perfect team before the kicks off,” a top club’s official told SportingLife.

    Promoted Katsina United are to leave this week to neigbouring Niger Republic for pre-season training .

    Katsina United opted for Niger for full concentration, officials said.

    Coach Bala Nikyu said: “We started late and so we need to put the boys in the right frame of mind and for them to be physically fit ahead of the new season.

    “We have recruited some experienced players from Warri Wolves, Kwara United and FC IfeanyiUbah ahead of the new season.

    “No club should be underrated knowing fully well that the league is better now as you can pick points anywhere, that’s why your team needs to recruit formidable players who can fight at any time.”

    PROMOTED Katsina United hope their budget in the Nigeria premier league will be boosted with support from multi-millionaire business mogul Dahiru Mangal.

    Mangal, who owns MaxAir Airline among various other business interests, supported neighbouring Niger Republic for their 2013 AFCON campaign in South Africa.

    Katsina United are back in the Nigeria top flight after a 19-year absence and club boss Aminu Balele Kurfi said he hopes the team will receive additional support from Katsina-based business magnate Mangal to ensure they take the league by storm.

    The Katsina United chairman appreciated the enormous financial support they have received from Katsina Governor Aminu Bello Masari, but argued they will need to explore other revenue streams to be competitive in the NPFL.
